    Summoner changes:

    -Shadowflare, Sustain, Aetherflow skill gone.
-Bane is now a move with a cooldown and no attachment to Aetherflow.
-Energy Drain (and new AOE Energy Syphon) now moves with a cooldown that does damage and gives you your 2 (yes just 2 now) Aetherflow stacks.
-Ruin spells do more damage if target is suffering from your Bio and/or Miasma (mini Festers!)
-Ruination debuff now gets spread by Bane.
-Tri Bind replaced with Outburst. AOE attack which is effected by Ruination.
-Garuda is an AOE pet now, with AOE autoattacks, an AOE burst and a second one that places a damage field down.
-Ifrit is a single-target pet. Technically has an AOE attack, but Garuda is more potent for that.
-Titan is still awkward. Can’t tank anymore. Has a spell that gives you a 20% HP shield. Summon him for when a boss goes invincible and does raidwide damage?
-DWT now doesn’t require Aetherflow to be used? Also now only reduces cast time and lets you use Deathflare. Doesn’t appear to disallow Aetherflow actions anymore?
-high level trait makes Bahamut availavle after only one Trance.
-Firebird Trance! Replaces Ruin III with a fire spell that gives you a buff that lets you combo an even stronger one after it. Turns out outburst into another spell.
-high level trait summons Phoenix during Firebird Trance. Acts like a fancier Bahamut. Also heals all allies around you while summoned.

    Very neat changes.

In WoW, my Function keys are usually reserved for setting enemy marks, or location beacons, and since those seem useful in 14 as well, will probably do the same.

That’s practically my setup as well. I do have a g600, so all 12 buttons are at my thumbtip. Left pinky can hit shift. Left thumb can hit alt. Ctrl is the third top face button on the mouse.

Titan is still the doing solo stuff pet. Just now instead of tanking he gives you a shield. Basically it lets him do his old job but doesn't get screwed over when you bring out Bahamut or Pheonix and dump all his threat.

Energy Drain/Siphon gives you only two aetherflow BUT you can use them twice a minute for 4 per minute total and now you don't have to waste aetherflows on bane, so it's a net increase by quite a lot.

It’s probably also worth it to summon Titan for boss ultimates. You’re not doing any damage anyway, and 20% HP mitigation for a big hit is nice.

Actually, since it requires a use of Egi Assault 1, that’s probably a noticeable DPS loss, never mind.

Oh! Something I forgot. Now, when you use Egi Assault, you will get a use of Ruin IV, guaranteed. It still can randomly trigger on auto-attacks, and can stack up to 2 times. But now you have a way to get it on command, twice a minute.

I am probably going to completely change my setup and UI soon. Current one is very caster focused, with most GCD actions on QERFCVGT and 1-5, with 12 side mouse buttons plus a click wheel for buffs and other oGCDs. Ctrl + whatever is used if the job needs more buttons.

This works great for jobs with a cast bar, but playing melee and having to move more often (and more precisely) to keep uptime has led to some annoying moments where I have to chase after the boss with WASD while also pressing something like Q23 for a Sen combo with Samurai. Gonna try shifting everything over to the mouse buttons and ctrl/shift/alt to see how I like that. It'll most likely drive me nuts for a while, but I have a feeling it will make for less fat finger mistakes in the long run.

If the goal is for healers to do more healing stuff, then more interesting healing stuff is fine.

Healer dps at this point was just really boring, even as a SCH main. You just put up 2 dots and spammed broil, or for AOE you just pressed miasma 2 because baning was a DPS loss anyway.

Same here though and in all my years i never thought to set Function keys for waypoints, i have those in a bar with no binds. F1-F4 is default party selection which i find useful when healing, but would definitely be useful for marking up tanks etc on the fly.

To follow up on some more thoughts.

The interesting part of healer dps isn't the rotation or whatever, it's finding the time to do dps in a way that's neither detrimental to your long term healing abilities (e.g. running out of mp) nor detrimental to keeping the tank alive right now. I mean they could have designed a situation where you have to put up like 3 dots of 10 second duration and use an aetherflow ability before all 3 wear off to do big damage, as a healer challenge to find time for 3 off gcds, but that is definitely not the direction they want the game to go in.

If 5.0 raids are going to be more healing challenging then I will gladly accept them. I heal because healing is fun. I don't heal because I want to really dps.

Oh god nevermind, the annoyance of occasionally having to make an awkward button press is minor in compared to having to learn entire new keybinds; too much muscle memory to overcome.

I'll just deal with the awkwardness of pressing R while circle strafing to the right, everything else feels fine.

something I've been wondering about from the shadowbringers trailer:
who do you think the guy inside the crystal tower with the crystal hand is? new character? or maybe Unukalhai? I want it to be Unukalhai, but they've never had a character originating from a raid storyline come back into the main story before, maybe because they can't assume you've done the raid storylines... but also if they were going to start incorporating the raid storylines back into the main story this seems like a good place to do it what with the crystal tower being important.

During the event a few months ago, they were very very heavily encouraging people to play through the Crystal Tower quests, explicitly noting that they would be relevant for how you get to the First

I'm actually pretty excited about the AST changes, though I'm completely neutral on WHM, since they didn't really change a lot, and SCH is just... ugh. Raiding as a SCH is going to be similar (DoT, nuke, shield the group when necessary), but for dungeon runs, there's no reason whatsoever to take one over a WHM. They lost nearly everything that makes them unique.

I do wonder how the DOT upgrading will work for SCH? Will they lose miasma upon becoming a SCH? Or will miasma be a post lvl30 SMN skill now? Or will they have miasma all the way to 74 or whatever and you'll have to mess with your action bars every time you get synced below that level?

Also I wonder if they will rename miasma 3? Or maybe add a new miasma 2 that's just an upgrade for miasma 1 that you get at the same time as Bio 2?

the new ast card system feels like they were trying to come up with something very simple but also didn't want you to feel like you were losing any cards, creating this needlessly complicated seal system

i don't mind them shifting to ast giving just straight damage increases but the way they've done it feels very silly

So with the embargos being lifted and all that, is it generally advised to steer clear of FF14 places for fear of story spoilers and things like that?

The moogle treasure trove event has started, and the one item I wanted that was on the promo page is not actually up for trade from the itinerant moogle.

Guess I'll have to get toy Alexander the normal way.

there's spoilers for one of the early dungeons and some light character stuff via the trust system, but the vast majority of the new info is regarding gameplay details, specifically changes to combat and job balance

I think to get raid minions you have to have actually beaten the raid quest line it comes from
