I don't really know Billy Wilder's later movies, but from the ones I've seen I always had the impression that Wilder's best work was definitely during his b&w period. A while ago my wife recorded The Front Page, so we watched that one yesterday. It didn't do anything to improve my opinion. The jokes are considerably cruder than in his earlier work (it seems that having to be creative to avoid censorship agreed with Wilder and his co-authors, and once he could swear more freely on film he didn't need to be creative), the social/political satire sits at odds with the clunky farce, and we've definitely seen better performances from Jack Lemmon and Walter Matthau (not to mention an utterly wasted Susan Sarandon). It's not a complete dud, but other than for the sake of completion, I don't see why anyone would want to watch this one over Wilder's earlier, sharper, funnier, and simply better films. (So it's quite lucky that my favourite local cinema is doing a Billy Wilder series in July/August. So far I've only seen Sunset Boulevard on a big screen, but I'm looking forward to adding The Apartment.)

Wilder's Front Page adaptation is definitely weaker than Milestone's and Hawks' attempts at the material, but I think later Wilder has a couple of very good films. In particular The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes and Avanti.
I've only seen The Private Life of Sherlock Holmes once, and years ago, but I remember thinking that the film had great moments but didn't really come together to form a whole. Avanti I saw and liked as a kid, but I've not had a chance to revisit it. It's perhaps unfair to a filmmaker if they've got films like Sunset Boulevard, The Apartment and Some Like It Hot in their filmography, because pretty much anything else that isn't a masterpiece will feel somewhat lacking in comparison.

It is a monstrous movie that my daughter continues to force me to watch every few days and I’m like, “Darling child, my allergies are really picking up again, I think I need to go lie down.”

All of this talk of RotN makes me want to see Animal House again.
Another movie with questionable protagonists. Like doesn't one of the protags in that get an underage girl drink to sleep with her?
He doesn't go through with it when she's drunk. They do end up having sex when both are sober though (with a joke about her age that, while I wouldn't say is better in the context of the movie, is definitely worse when typing it out. Very Crosses-the-line-twice.) And IIRC his last scene in the movie was to tell the father (who was also the mayor) that they were going to marry.
Bluto also engages in some voyarism, and "kidnaps" a woman at the end, but we never get further than them driving off before we get the "They're married and he's a senator now" freezeframe and the movie ends.
All other encounters we see are presented as concentual, though there is a bit of gray depending on if and when you though Mrs. Werber was too drunk to concent to Otter. The ranchiest sex joke is arguably the fact that Gregg (the preppy snob) couldn't get an erection even with a beautiful woman giving him a hand job.
I loved RotN when I was a kid, and I refuse to let myself watch it again because I would probably just feel super bad about myself.
Animal House I just remember finding kind of dull.
I submitted an entry to Lego Ideas, and if 10,000 people support me, it'll be turned into an actual Lego set!If you'd like to see and support my submission, follow this link.

there needs to be an academy award for “best use of sisters of mercy in a film”
I legit lost it at the scene when This Corrosion started up
Ah yes, my teenage dalliance with goth rock.

Literal rape happens in the movie and it's played off like a triumphant thing.

All of that then you have the ABs who physically remove the freshman from their dorms?
The first introduction of Ogre just screaming "nerds" from the roof of their house is just like, what the fuck man?
The local police department ceding jurisdiction to the Greek fraternity council over campus crimes is oddly prescient.

Let's fucking do this.
At least Booger thought about protection in the 80's.
Didn't pack a change of underwear, but he has a duffle bag full of Durex.

Apparently a very young Danny Concannon as Poindexter in ROTN 2 prior to joining the West Wing.
Yes? But i dont think he goes through with it? Doesnt know she is underage and then doesnt rape her. Though its been a while since i saw the movie
Theyre positively good people compared to revenge

Also the proper response to anyone suggesting Porky's as a source for pranks.
I'm morbidly curious about how it's portrayed, seeing as how I grew up in Broward.
The most accurate depictions of Florida I've ever seen in a film are The Florida Project and Stranger Than Paradise.
It's not very accurate. Unless you were on A1A and Las Olas during spring break before it got kicked out, anyway.
He bothers her at her work for ages, then Paulie forces her to go out on their date, and then Rocky physically bars her from leaving his apartment
It's not Revenge of the Nerds levels of awful, but pretty fucking sketchy
