Maybe we needed multiple threads for this. One poll for hard cheeses, one for soft cheeses, one for weird cheeses that people have secretly looked up on Wikipedia to appear knowledgeable.
a whole category for "weird cheese I picked up in the offcuts bin that was really great but I can't remember what it was called and will never find again"
I feel like I wouldn't put American cheese as a bottom tier cheese. I like provolone and baby swiss better.
I've had cheese I've disliked on a sandwich tho, or felt like it needed to be paired with a specific thing to be palatable,
and I feel like even the grocery store cheese product tastes fine.
Not a fan of cream cheese, even in like lasagna or a salad for instance.
a very sharp cheddar (i like cabot) or an interesting brie is good for snacking
pepperjack for a versatile everyday cheese
mozzarella for a lot of recipes
cheesecake for dessert
One of my favourite lunches is the "random cheese from the fancy supermarket's reduced to clear section"
I was there on Tuesday and picked up a wedge of Brie de Meaux for £1. It's been ripening up since and should be good for lunch today with some cornish wafers, good butter and cranberry sauce.
The one about the fucking space hairdresser and the cowboy. He's got a tinfoil pal and a pedal bin
I guess Parmegiano Reggiano is not on the list because it would be such a onesided win?
From the list I have to go with gorgonzola, because as a sauce it can elevate soma pasta from okay to heavenly.
Also where's the Gruyere? I'm starting to doubt the scientific method of this poll.
edit: also also: truffle pecorino!
edit: edit: Had a artisinal spice coated soft cheese from corsica last christmas. That was amazing. Also some other really soft cheese with ash covered rind that I can't remember the name of.
Halloumi is my favorite cheese but its not on the list
If you've never had it, its real weird and basically has a very high melting point, so you can fry it in a pan and it basically makes it into like a mozzerella cheese stick except you don't have to bread it or anything, you just throw it in a pan and you're good

brie is just the one on this list I most want right now
I ended up going with mozz because it's a really versatile cheese that works extremely well in a variety of contexts
Shout-outs to muenster and havarti, though, which are very delicious sandwich and burger cheeses
I have so many opinions about this poll.

except it was actually a really old piece of quiche
he was sick for like a month and lost a lot of weight
now he calls it the blue cheese diet
There's a burger place near me that does a Velveeta burger and it's amazing
Because where the hell is the halloumi?

Jack is a better platform for mixing in shit, like pepper jack.
I'm willing to compromise and say chedderjack is the most versatile though.
