Can we talk about how bad two of the three in-game cinematics were compared to all of their other ones? They looked super rushed / worse than stuff I've seen from creators on Youtube.

Guys, we’ve just told you that Sylvanas doesn’t care about you, she even says it out loud before she makes like the Lost smoke monster and floats away. Can you please hate her now and buy into our bullshit? Please?

Pay no attention to the fact that we killed yet another Horde character that we’ve been writing into the ground to do so.

So, alot of belly aching you can't get the wraithion quest without doing the kill ashzara quest first. I mean, I've done it in LFR, but it still seems kinda lame.

    And

Nothing with Blightcaller after all that? He's just still there on the boat doing his normal thing?
EDIT: Ah, there is a little bit in the loyalist 'ending'. But it seems odd he'd not be on the lamb

So obviously all along the BfA war campaign has been very sub-par at best, and pretty terrible at its worst.

But I don't really see why Blizzard tried so hard to hide these cinematics before the release of the patch. They weren't that good, and while I think we can all agree that the exact specifics of what went down might have been a tad unexpected, the overall big picture concepts are exactly what everyone has been predicting all along.
No, we didn't anticipate Sylvanas making a fool of herself in front of literally the entire Horde and then flying away. We didn't see that coming. But we knew that Sylvanas would be ousted one way or another, and Saurfang's death has been the most telegraphed thing ever. Literally nobody was surprised by that.

I guess we can all breath a sigh of relief that there's no Siege of Orgrimmar 2.0.

But what happened to the 3rd warfront? Has Blizzard just abandoned that game mode because nobody cares about the first two?

Pretty reasonable guess. They would involve an enormous investment of dev resources for something that clearly hasn't resonated.

    Regarding those cinematics
    (spoilers)
I'm guessing there's something else after the 2nd cinematic plays. An in game cutscene or something? The end of that cutscene is pretty abrupt and now I need closure.

Also, I did not quite follow the logic of it. Someone with a bit more analytical skill than me, help me out here.

So Saurfang challenges Sylvanas to 1v1 combat. He gets his ass kicked. She taunts him, he musters a bit more strength, swings a couple more times and then she just blasts him to shit with her banshee powers. Like obviously the whole physical battle was a farce because if she was that strong that she could just blast him like that, he never stood a chance. The whole thing was obviously symbolic.

But what I don't understand is why she just flies away at the end. The stakes of the battle were very clearly the Horde. He was challenging her for right to rule, essentially. And she kicked his ass. But then she abdicates? She just leaves? That's the part I don't get.

Was she suddenly moved by his conviction? Did she realize that her Horde has no honor? Did she realize she's a giant meanie? Like... I don't get the end of that at all.

Obviously there are implications after. She's gone, which means the rebel faction can reclaim control of Orgrimmar. And Anduin Wrynn walked straight into the front doors of the fortress, bearing the body of Saurfang. So obviously there has been a shift in the factional balance.
Did you not see her honor guard give her the side eye after she said the Horde was nothing? She lost her temper and the gig was up. She lost
yeah and it was like "really, guys? that's what gets you to turn on her? she called you dipshits to your faces?
After everything Sylvanas has done, it's eye-rolling that that's what it takes: a denigration in a heated moment. Not, you know, her openly endorsing death and wanting to 'kill hope.'

If you wanted that story beat, she needed to go on a far nastier tirade. Or you needed to show that her forces are far more loyal to the Horde itself than they are to her in particular.

Maybe that'll be something that comes out in questing!

Yeah, to be fair to those cinematics, I have not finished the war campaign yet, so maybe a bit of in-game context will help. (Unlikely).

Since I did that server/faction transfer and lost literally all of my war campaign progress, I haven't even started the war campaign on my main yet. I'm still irritated that they couldn't just look at my progress on one faction and see "100%" and translate that to "100%" on the other side.

So my main character is 0% Zandalar campaign progress and 0% Horde War Campaign, because none of that transferred in the faction change. I might never do it on this character. I might have to resort to playing an alt to complete the story if I want to actually see it.

    Wait...
Wasn't this a Mak'gora? Or however the dumb orc thing is spelled.

Isn't... it supposed to be a trial of strength, no magic? Like, wasn't there a whole thing with the Thrall vs. Garrosh one that Thrall cheated by throwing around shaman spells during it?

So, I assume purple banshee powers would fall under the same thing.

Nathanos is still on the boat now and Baine is still in the Great Seal while he's imprisoned, don't think about it too hard. Or alternately make fun of Lor'themar and the farstriders for being the worst trackers in the world.

I'm glad on principle that they heavily encrypted them even if they were stupid, having every cinematic getting openly discussed for a month before each patch actually drops because it was datamined from the PTR is just terrible in general.

Random night elf NPC conversation after you finish the war campaign:
"All this talk of the war winding down...Sylvanas is still out there. Have they all forgotten what she did?"
"Not Tyrande. She is still out there too. Hunting Sylvanas and Nathanos like the dogs they are."
"May the might of the Night Warrior lay waste to those walking corpses."

Excuse me, stupid night elves, but Blizzard already said that Tyrande avenged Teldrassil when she *checks notes* killed a val'kyr and some Horde soldiers. Hunting down Sylvanas and Nathanos is, like, totally uncivilized, seeing how the avenging has already been done.

    Personally I hope that
When we finally get to fight Nathanos or whatever, that he gives a big speech as hes ready to escape and the entire raid gets a button and we all just kick him a bunch until he dies. Hes just indignant the whole time and we just kick the shit out of his stupid fucking face.

Oh also all this stuff is going down and like 10 feet away a bunch of drunk people are wondering if they need to sober up or what

probably thrall is coming back to chief some wars, or at the very least be the orc boss again while he nominates someone else as leader for the whole horde
alternately he's going to propose abolishing the warchief system and establishing a democracy
or an elected horde leader even if each member nation determines its own leadership its own way

"The Horde should be abolished because they are a bunch of warmongering evil monsters" is apparently the faction pride that Blizzard has managed to squeeze from this expansion.

I mean, at the end of WC3:TFT during the Orc faction bonus campaign, the Horde sets off for new horizons to an entirely new continent to live in peace and just mind their own business.

That's the lore I cling to. That's my happy ever after.

WoW never should have re-sparked the war. Even during classic there was no reason for them to be fighting. The war was solved in Frozen Throne. Heck, the war was solved during Reign of Chaos at the world tree.

And the Forsaken never should have been made part of the horde. They have never fit. Not ever. They might be outcasts, but the Horde is not a faction of outcasts. Well, it didn't use to be. That's what Blizzard turned it into in WoW. There should have been a 3rd faction that was literally called "The Outcasts" and it could have been the Forsaken, the Blood Elves, and any other races that didn't fit thematically on the Alliance or Horde.

Same can be said about Night Elves in general, but....I think that overall is better this way since it makes the factions more interesting. The Tolkien races (except elves) vs. the Tribal races is one dimensional and boring.

EDIT: Warcraft is at it's best when it tries to be something else besides yet another Tolkien remake. Which is why the best expansion IMO is The Burning Crusade.

Re-watched the BFA reveal trailer with the attack on Undercity. I love love love CG movies / trailers, especially of this quality.....but....

….some of it goes together with the new stuff, like "The cycle" etc., but Sylvanas doesn't even feel like the same character from the reveal trailer to the newest one. It's so odd.

    I know she has
Xalatath, or whatever the corrupted weapon is
in the newest movie, but still....

Also, there's a difference between the lore of the war between two factions and the idea of hard coded factions as a game mechanic. The latter simply has aged poorly because it turns out that dividing your playerbase is a bad idea, which is why no modern MMO that has (some) success does it.
