I definitely faked being sick a few times, and I would gladly welcome being a bit sick for the sake of skipping. I rarely got (and still rarely get) full on turbosick though. My parents would also occasionally allow me to take a mental health day, which could range from anywhere to actually being probably not great in the brain to just like, not wanting to go to school extremely bad and my parents being sympathetic.

These days I work a job that I can pretty freely work from home, which means I've pretty much never called out sick, because I need to be real fucked up to not be able to manage that.

Was only sick maybe twice through elementary school. The only other time I missed class was when our house burned down.

Which was pretty cool I got to hang out with the neighbors kids that we normally wouldn’t and my not at all done homework wasn’t expected the next day.

my dad was the type of person that would take me to the doctor anytime I stayed home sick from school. im just realizing now it may have been an excuse for him to get out of work. either way it ended up being worse than school, because I would only miss school if I was real sick. price is right then became the only saving grace.

Middle school/high school was a nightmare for me so any excuse was welcome

Except the time in 8th grade when I got pneumonia and had to miss a whole week, and had to sleep sitting up, and had to take a bunch of antibiotics

Then towards the end of the year I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes and had to miss another week in the hospital

One time I got a mild cold and had to stay home alone and I spent the whole entire day playing Link to the Past and listening to the radio (and recording a mixtape, by holding up another radio to the first one, inevitably cutting off *at least* the first few bars off each song!) and drinking coffee for my sore throat while it snowed outside and cuddling my dog and that night I got to eat half a carton of sherbet and it was one of the greatest days, so much better than school

I had panic attacks every Monday morning, which manifested as breathing troubles and fever.

Didn't really have any reason for it, beyond that i disliked school on general principles, and preferred to stay home and watch movies.

In hindsight, I could probably have done with some counselling.

When sick, my parents would confine me to my room, with no books, toys, or entertainment. So yeah, I hated being sick. Even though my mom was a stay at home mom, she always considered me being at home a 'burden', so there were cases where I would opt to go to school feeling bleh, only to vomit in the school hallway.
