I've been sourpussing modern Ghostbusters a lot in this thread, but I wanted to take the time to highlight something that's got me super hyped and it's just a small thing, but it's the shot of Pheobe from behind with the exposed cyclotron.

In addition to looking rad, it also looks unhinged.. dangerous in a way that the proton packs haven't really felt since that fateful day when Egon switched one on in an elevator and promptly shuffled as far away from it as possible. After that they become fairly rote, aside from occasionally being turned into a bomb in the cartoon or comic, but this is the first time I've looked at a proton pack and actually had a "People should not be around this thing while it's operating." sensation.

When Adam Savage did his Comic Con appearance with his open cyclotron my eyes bugged-out. Little did I know that that would be in a movie one day.

It's one of the reasons the modifications my friends have been making to their HasLab packs allow it to operate with the cover off.

Not thrilled my attempt to reduce the amount of negativity in this thread has devolved into a slapfight.

Nah man, some people just enjoy disliking things to the level of actively trying to convince people things are bad.

I love Ghostbusters. I love just about everything about it. Do I like the earlier things more? Sure, but I was a kid then and it's impossible to be as a big of a fan of something as you are when you're a kid.

My only wish is the same I have with all of these continuations of older stories. Use the setting, but ditch the characters. We have this wild idea, ghosts exist and prey on the living. We have these everyday blue collar workers who deal with them.

Let's explore that! Different people, different situations.

I am in the business of saving lives.

Any take that doesn't recognize how completely crucial the relationship between Egon, Ray, and Peter (and their respective actors) is, is just going to be wrong. You can't just parachute anyone into those roles, it's three geniuses at the peak of their careers and on all the drugs. Putting the kid from Stranger Things and Paul fuckin' Rudd in there is an admission that casting doesn't know what they're doing.

They should've just harvested the video game setup of training a handful of rookies while Peter sits around rolling in all the money they make while taking all the risk.

Ghostbusters stuff might be coming back to Universal Studios. For context, there was an opening day attraction at the park that was a...special effects show, and they had a couple dance shows with the Ghostbusters and Beetlejuice for a while as well. They also had a firehouse building, which now has a roller coaster going through it, and they had a Ghostbusters haunted house in 2019 during horror nights.

Current speculation is that they'll do another haunted house for this year based on the new movies, and they'll probably have an ectomobile at their new parade in the park. Other rumors are that they might come in with a new attraction

  • TankHammerTankHammer Atlanta Ghostbuster Atlanta, GARegistered User regular
If they are doing another haunted house I am going. If we make it a group thing I'll post the date.
Funny story, the guy on the far right of that preview image (with the trap)? My buddy worked with him at Medieval Times in Anaheim last year. HE had stories about working with Wayne Brady (yes, that Wayne Brady) while he was trying to break into the industry.

I guess this is a good place to drop this, actually.
Some good friends of mine in the fandom are putting together a modern index of active fan-franchises in case anyone is interested.
The goal is to maintain this as a one-stop-shop to find Ghostbusters in your area either because you want to join or because you want to call in an appearance for something.

You don't have to do charity events (though most of us do SOMETHING in that area). It's more for organized groups that make appearances in costume for conventions, parades, screenings, public events, and the like. The groups who are registered 501c3 are marked as such.

I just had a fun idea that's too late to do now.

40 days before Frozen Empires premiers, watch Ghostbusters.

Five days later, watch Ghostbusters II.

    32 days later, watch Afterlife.

3 days later, watch Frozen Empire.

Our resident Egon Spengler (Dustin Grau) visited the HQ today to give them a limited-edition patch.
There is going to be a fun publicity stunt there early next month and the movie premier will be in NYC on 3/14... allegedly.

Japan has an exclusive track again.
I still have fond memories about rolling around outside of DragonCon blasting the Japanese theme they did for 2016.

Video of some Haslab mods, specifically a new hose.

    https://youtu.be/aY0ZwH4Rgzo

I really want a new hose, but I'm weary of doing permanent modifications to my pack. I wish someone would just put out an a full replacement hose instead of relying on butchering the existing one.

  • TankHammerTankHammer Atlanta Ghostbuster Atlanta, GARegistered User regular
That hose is PRETTY CLOSE to a full-replacement. I just ordered one because my Haslab has had a problem with the whole pack powering down when I flip the wand's ACTIVATE switch and I am fucking done with it.

Here's another tutorial video. Besides having to snip wires and use a heat-shrink shroud it's very no-fuss compared to mods that require soldiering. You don't even need to open the pack!
    https://youtu.be/KWJ7NKvQwBA?si=JGjuj1V7kC-YnXjL

I've done the TalentCell battery swap already and I am real close to getting the mods to add a barrel shroud and Frozen Empire bumper to it as well.

  • Undead ScottsmanUndead Scottsman Cybertronian Paranormal Eliminator Registered User regular
I'm pretty close to be willing to do a talent cell modification. Maybe I'll do the hose replacement then.

I just really, really don't want to cut up my old hose. I like the idea of having a spare.

I do have a spare, so my concern is a little bit diminished. Hasbro was good about that until they ran out of parts.
I guess I could send you my spare if I am successful. I'll try to cut up my broken hose first.

I don't get to be there, but I have a lot of friends who are right now.

So, any impressions from the premier, yet?

  • TankHammerTankHammer Atlanta Ghostbuster Atlanta, GARegistered User regular
Dan Harshman of Ghostbusters Virginia is a pretty straight-shooter. He had the following to say today after attending the premier (it's spoiler-free but I'll hide it for safety):
My SPOILER FREE review of Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire.
A successful follow up to Ghostbusters Afterlife that succeeds where the previous failed. Shedding the ominous cloak of bereavement and almost religious like worship of Ghostbusters iconography that plagued Afterlife, Frozen Empire injects much needed energy, horror and comedy into a 40 year old horror comedy.
Character motivations make sense, and a beautiful story is interwoven about growth (both personally and interfamilial) between our characters. It's a film about change in the best ways possible that moves forward at a breakneck pace culminating in a fun finale that was satisfying and leaves you longing for more.
The ethos (and beloved characters) of the original Ghostbusters (1989 sequel and 1986 cartoon series) runs strong in this follow up with a few segments that may leave purists upset. Those with an open mind will be left pleased and hopeful for more.
For me? I enjoyed it more than Ghostbusters Afterlife, I am very excited to see what's next!

I like that RGB shirt with slimer. Also I see every single Ghostbusters group probably bought all the hoodies since they are basically in universe advertising.

Finally stuck a key-ring through the other end of my leg hose so I don't have to tape it to my belt anymore. I'm pretty much done with my costume for the movie later this week, the only question is if I want to melt the no-ghost logos off of my spirit halloween radio with some rubbing alchohol.

Now I just need to figure out if I want to spend an extra ticket for a seat for my proton pack or just go without it.

Last movie when I was there with a bunch of other ghostbusters we all just put our packs in the empty area by the screen. No one could mess with them there. Off obviously so not to distract anyone.

A film with hundreds of CGI effect shots hires an ex mythbuster to show off like ten practical shots. No idea why people suddenly hate CGI but disingenuous stuff like this is annoying.
