I was talking more about the partially part. Like the implication that believing an emotional connection is part of sexual attraction is not quite getting it.

But like I said, mildly offensive. I'm pretty a-ok with electing not to have sex with people I don't have a strong emotional connection with.

In the sense that having had sex with people I don't have a strong emotional attachment and in retrospect finding it vaguely regrettable? Yes.

In the sense that I cannot find anyone I don't have a strong emotional connection to attractive? I guess not really?

It's hard to say because I can recognize someone as attractive and yet have no actual desire to be intimate with them so I guess the answer is: Sorta?

Maybe it's because I've read a lot of scientific papers, but this journal passage from Death Stranding doesn't have me mad in the slightest. The suggestion that expressions of asexuality and demisexuality would be increased as interaction gets scarier and more dangerous seems almost self-evident. It's how every other personality trait and type of behavior works. Shit it's how being gay has worked historically. When it was dangerous and hard to be gay, fewer people expressed homosexuality. If it's dangerous and hard to express physical affection, fewer people will express it.

It's a pretty core belief of mine that we form our identities around our actions rather than the other way around. Which as a concept I think makes people uncomfortable and they tend to lash out about it.

Like, I don't think I fuck dudes because I'm gay. I fuck dudes for an unfathomable constellation of reasons, many of which I don't understand and can't really figure out. And then as a result of my behavior, society has given me a label.

If my environment changed, my behavior would change, and so would some of my labels. For some people in the event that romance and contact became hard or dangerous, that would tip them from bi to straight, gay to ace, demi to ace, or from romantic to demi, etc.

I don't think this is terribly profound, but I don't think it's malicious or even saying something offensive. It maybe punctures the sanctity of identity a little.

Also, Kojima's perspective is def influenced by japanese culture and their fairly large movement amongst young people who eschew romantic relationships out of anxiety and fear. And this isn't a guess as to their motivation. It's self-reported.

ah yes, the highest of horses, thinking someone being doxxed is a bad thing

chat isn't the place for this, but I'd recommend looking up the history of the British armed forces in Ireland before passing comment on someone burning one of their symbols. The poppy represents not only the soldiers who fought in the World Wars but also the soldiers who murdered Irish people in cold blood in their own streets (not to mention a bunch of other illegitimate wars the Brits have been involved in down the last century). In the last several years its been co-opted into a symbol of conservatism and used as a means for jingoistic flag worship, and if you think this isn't the case, I'd like to know why there's such a vitriolic response to anyone like James McClean who doesn't wear one

also victim blaming is a bad look just fyi hth

what is the significance of burning a poppy

It's a symbol of remembrance for military personnel. In the UK many people wear one in the run up to remembrance Sunday.

In principle is supposed to be an apolitical symbol recognising sacrifice, but understandably it's controversial among those who have been on the receiving end of the attentions of said military personnel.

what is the significance of burning a poppy
Poppies are worn on Remembrance Day to represent honouring the memory of troops who died fighting the Axis in World War II. Usually red, sometimes white for people who prefer non-violence.

So burning it is metaphorically taking a big old shit on them, and publicising it via video on Twitter means you want others to see you doing that.

...and of course, as always, Kill Hitler.
