I will be incredibly surprised if anyone actually eats their own cock.
Sick fuckers.
Not me. I fully expect people to hideously maim themselves and irreversibly destroy their ability to have children based on a throw-away promise posted on an internet message board. Like when I said I'd kill Brian Fargo if Fallout 2 crashed on me ever again. I had to stab the dude like twelve times or something.
If Starcraft 2 and DN:F are released in the same year then....
I'll eat my own cock.
Then I'll eat his shit which is made of his cock that you made him eat.
Just to let you guys know, I'm sigging this, so IF this does happen (though DNF will never release) you will have to do it. Not like those assholes from the SC thread who said that SC2 will never release and if it is announced they would eat their cock, like 2 pages before it was announed. Still have yet to deliver.
How bout instead of actually eating my one and only penis, I make an extremely realistic replica out of marzipan and eat that instead?
was the first iteration of this game so good people really still care? or is it simply a gamer joke now about this game? i, for one, could care less if it ever gets released.
The 3d Realms forums reaction to this is, as ever, amusing.
And just a little sycophantic.
Quotes plzkthnx.
This looks REALLY REALLY REALLY good. But also way alternative too what I expected in a good way thoguh.
Nice!
Looks like the thumb is getting bigger each time Last time it was only 200x125.. now it's 200x150
So the way I work it out is that there just needs to be at least 25 new positions till we get a 600x600px+ image
Speechless once again
That is amazing, 3D Realms does magic
GOD THANK YOU!!
Beyond ******* awesome
Holy shit....that is one fantastic looking model...This pic just makes my head swim on how the Octabrains and main bosses look...I can't WAIT to put a handful of buckshot into that pigs head...
Why oh why do they continue to show thumbnails? what size is that 80x80? come on, you gonna give to the world an image of the game you have been making fo 10 years and you give it at 80x80? I know most video cards and monitors 10 years ago couldnt handle 1600x1200 or something like it, but guess what??? its 2007 now!!!!!
Tons of gameplay + ultra realistic graphics = Duke Nuke Forever > Must have it no matter what
Look at its muscles, puts duke to shame!!! nobody upstages duke and gets away with it! DOWN WITH THE PIG!
Wow!! What A Coincidence Today Happened To Be My Lucky Day Another Great Thing For Me And Us!! Dnf Screenshot!!
Yeah, In Your Face Non-believers Of Duke!! Thanks George Keep Them Coming!! I Will Probably Faint When I See A Video, And At The Store To Go Pick It Up!! Totally Excited Here!! Thanks And Enjoy!!
The more I look at it the more I start to realize it doesn't resemble the pigcop at all...
It's collosal. Obviously the pigs have discovered steroids. He isn't even wearing a uniform - his face doesn't resemble the pigcop at all (no mohawk, no red eyes)
I think it shouldn't be as muscular but look more pissed off. That's what the original looked like. The way it looks right now it looks too much like a boss, like the Berserker from GoW or the Hellknight from DooM 3. Not that it doesn't look cool... It just doesn't stay true to the original.
... and it goes on, for 10 or so pages.
There are far too many people posting there.
How does 3DRealms justify spending money on this project?
Seriously, for a company that makes other games, you'd think the upper management would say "release it, or get the fuck out!" I mean, unless they're REALLY confident that it will get released and make absolute GOBS of money, I just can't imagine this management decision...
Like, Valve spending 6 years on HL2 made sense, because they were actually DOING SHIT. They released trailers, and lots of screen shots, and made an impressive show at E3, and the whole big thing. Also, it was their only game, and must have known it was make-or-break.

But, why still fund this game?

If the game is ever released I will buy it. Good or bad, I don't care. I just want a piece of gaming history.

Valve taking so long to release HL2 also made sense because the HL1 multiplayer/mod scene was so heavily supported, and still thriving by the time HL2 was finally released.
I don't get the (relatively) few people who still carry a torch for DNF. After this long, is it really going to have a chance to live up to expectations? We're even getting to the point now where a bulk of the gaming demographic isn't even going to care about the game because they were too young to have played/appreciated Duke 3D.

If DNF actually gets released it would have already exceeded all expectations I had for it.

so how many people played Duke 3D on the contingent of being familiar with and liking the original Duke platformers?
It'll succeed in of its own merits, perhaps moreso becaus of all the notoriety.
It doesnt matter how long it takes to make the game, because fundamental things like level progression or design or whatever are going to generally stay the same
the stuff that keeps getting changed is graphical or engine related - and really that shouldnt be the be-all end all way to judge the game.
It could be no more "advanced" than Quake III but as long as it has 3DRealm's charm, characterization, interaction and other ingenuities, that's all that matters.
THOSE are valid reasons why some people still care about this game and don't write it off as a joke or "for sure trash".

That's kind of my point. You posted this screenshot a week ago, and the discussion here is 3 pages long. Seems like if there were that many people still chomping at the bit for this game, or any information about it, there'd be a few more posts. Could be just that there isn't much to talk about, but when has that stopped forum debate/discussion before?
Also, when Duke 3D came out, how many big first-person shooters were around? It stood out back then, so people didn't have to know the platformers to get interested in D-3D. Now, with the glut of FPS games flooding the market, DNF is going to have to be nearly flawless to avoid getting the "This was totally not worth X* years of development."
*(I believe the over-under for "X" in Vegas now is at 17...)
it's going to get that "this was not worth this many years of development" from someone somewhere no matter how good it is
non of the long time fans care
3Drealms doesnt care
the people who pick up the game check it out and enjoy it wont care
so like... whatever? gamers on message boards will say bad things about it?
Chances are probably good it'll be at LEAST a decently good game (hopefully amazing) and worth it's price and sell decently. you can criticize that, but that's the choice 3Drealms made.
They chose to take their time and make the game they wanted to make, I dont think you can make them feel bad about it.

Well, when Duke came out the market was flooded with FPSes, as they were the "hot new thing". All of them sucked horribly tho, and tyhats why Duke came out on top. Now if you look at it, he are being flooded with FPSes again, but none of them are really that good or memorable... since HL2 I havent played anything that really strike my fancy. Andthe Duke should arrive again to save the day (cue dramatic music).
Either way, if DNF is anything like the 3D, it should bring a breath of fresh air.
dont say thought that Duke 3D was only good as a result of the competition being poor.
It brought a lot to the table that other games werent doing. It was good for goodness' sake.
Oh yeah, definately. I mean the level of interactivity wih the environment was unprecedented.
First workable toilets ever (that could be destroyed!). Working projectors/TVs. At one point you get to blow up a building (my jaw hit the flor when I saw that). And a lot of great humor to boot. And you actually got to play in a "real" city for the first time ever, as opposed to a spaceship or... spaceship.
I was just saying that it didnt do well because there was no competition, but because it was way and above the level of it. A testament to its forward thinking. I just phrased it wrong.
Saw today on destructoid another small screen for DNF (i love the irony in the acronymn) apparently confirmed by a 3D realms staff member on their boards... source

Yes
This and Starcraft II are the most important future releases I'm looking forward to.
And have been for years
I came up with a very similar joke this last Easter when the whole "Duke Nukem Forever Turns 10 Years Old" thing happened.
Q: What's the difference between Jesus and Duke Nukem Forever?
... and it goes on, for 10 or so pages.
