Stardew Valley: Seeking the Red Cabbage Since 2016

Do you ever find yourself down in the dumps about modern life? Everything is just so stressful and busy all the time, you never get a chance to relax and appreciate the great outdoors. Well you're in luck, your grandfather just died. No wait, come back! He went peacefully (I think), and he left you the deed to his farm. That's right, you're movin' to Pelican Town in Stardew Valley!

What's there to do in Stardew Valley? Well, there's farming. Grow all kinds of crops across the four seasons. Cultivate (see what I did there) relationships with the various townspeople, and even bone some of them, regardless of gender! There's a guy that looks like Fabio, that's kind of funny, although most of the guys in the game look like total goobers.

There's also a very, very, very deep mine that seems to have mysterious and spooky monsters lurking within. And you can fish!

Unfortunately there's some conflict in good ol' Pelican Town. The once-rad community center has fallen into disrepair and the basically Wal-Mart Crossed With Coca Cola company Joja Corporation is trying to move in on their turf. Will you work with the weird little forest spirits to restore the community center or be a tool of THE MAN and join Joja Corp? It's up to you! But seriously, don't join Joja Corp.

Look, basically it's Harvest Moon But Not. It's real good, and surprisingly addicting.

Anyway, it's a real fun game and a lot of people here are into it.

Much information can be found in the wiki below, but here are a few tips:

Get to know the Options screen. In particular, I find the “Advanced Crafting” useful, as it shows exactly what you need to make an item and how many you can make with what is in your inventory. Also, there is now an option to take a Full Screenshot of your farm, it’s at the bottom of the Options page. Just need to make sure you’re outside on the farm and not in a building.

The day runs from 6 AM to 2 AM. The game saves when you go to sleep. If you are not in bed by 2 AM, you will fall asleep wherever you are and wake up in bed. Usually you will lose 10% of your money if this happens.

If you make a big mistake, remember you can exit out of the game and it will load the morning’s save. Make sure to do this on the day of, not later. There is only one save per character so if you screw up and then go to sleep you’re stuck with the consequences.

Have fun!

Also boy I sure wish the game would have told me I needed a house upgrade *before* I could buy the mermaid pendant -_- Waited foreeeeeeeeeeeever for it to rain and then the guy is like "Nope, your house is too small..." Dude, I'll buy one, just sell me the damn pendant because I don't wanna wait for it to rain again! Meanwhile Abby is dropping hints left and right she wants me to propose and I'm like "I'M WORKING ON IT!"

How do you people play co-op mode in one household? My daughter wants me to play with her but we've only played it on the PC so far. Would the Android version work with Co-op, or should I consider getting a Switch?

Co-op won't work on Switch unless you've got a Switch with a copy of the game for each person.

That’s cool! Seems like the gaps between updates for all systems keeps narrowing.

I’m four items away from completing the museum in my current game. It feels as if artifact spawn rates are really low; I have a better success rate with digging in the mines (but certain artifacts don’t ever spawn in the mines).

I also haven’t found every recipe, apparently, as I have crafted everything I can but still don’t have the achievement. Hmm. The wiki says some of the recipes I’m missing should be available from Robin so I presume I need to visit her on different days...

FYI, I know I got a handful of recipes from Robin once I raised her hearts up (IIRC one of them was the note block). So maybe that's it.

In terms of the museum, there is that merchant guy in the desert who sells the artifact geode thing for 5 omni-geodes. Dunno if that can have every artifact in it but may be a way to help move that along faster (I assume that was added because of how stupid RNG it can be to get some of them)

Also the skull cavern occasionally has a dinosaur level and you can clean up on bones that almost never show up in the little wormy foraging spots.

Yeah, that was cool the first time I found it. Also screw those worms. Freaking clay for days. Also I once had one spawn right next to a lake and then when I went to dig it up the dino bone immediately fell into the water -_- Luckily I quickly checked and it was one I had already found.

I’m pretty sure I’m at 9 hearts with Robin, so I doubt I need to have 10 hearts with her, but I can check!

I’m still missing a gem (even after hundreds of geodes) so I haven’t tried trading omni-geodes for artifacts yet. That’s definitely my next course of action.

The three artifacts I am missing are:

Chewing stick (I have never failed to get this before, but c’est la vie)
    Chipped urn thingy
Golden plaque (again, never failed before, but this game the desert has been letting me down!)

For those of you who have played more long-term, I'm getting frustrated in terms of getting the artisan economy going. I haven't found any Ancient Seeds yet, so I'm trying to maximize Starfruit jelly production, but basic resources are getting in the way of being able to produce more preserves jars (and other craft items). I have about 200k money, but I find that just buying wood and stone off of Robin is still too expensive. I can chop down a bunch of trees relatively easily, but getting a lot more stone requires grinding the mines, which I don't have a lot of in-game time to do. Is there anything that I'm missing?

I'd like to get to a point where money isn't that much of a concern so I can start spending more time fishing or gearing up for a serious run at the Skull Cavern (I did manage to get to level 100 in the Mines).

For reference, it's the middle of Fall 2 in my current game.

Artisan profits are slow. I've found it's easier just to scale up production of your crops or animals than to try to get a ton of kegs, casks, and jars.

Artisan goods are disappointing and weirdly inconsistent with reality in how little money you get for them.

Mayonnaise should not be a more reliable moneymaker than jellies, for example.

One way to get Ancient Fruit seeds when you haven't found the Ancient Seed artifact yet is to use the Seed Maker tool a whole lot. A random number of Ancient Fruit seeds and Mixed Seeds will show up occasionally instead of the seed you put in.

Oh, then that's probably not it. I've been fairly neglectful of Robin so I doubt mine is at 10 hearts.

Actually now that I think about it, I will say marriage is something I would love to see improved. You get married and then that's kind of it. Nothing really happens. Sometimes your spouse waters the crops that are already setup to be watered by sprinklers or feeds the animals that get fed by an automatic feeder, but otherwise they don't do much. At the very least I'd love to see more dialog with your spouse and maybe some things you can just do together (i.e. go on a date or whatever)

Yeah I'd love this. I mean, in general it would be kind of nice if some actual new events happened after year 2. Even if they were small things like that.

Also this is probably too much for an update (maybe a sequel) but I think it'd be neat if the game randomized the layout of stuff a little. Like, at least in terms of picking from some pre-configured options to keep things fresh between different playthroughs (ex: maybe in one playthrough the mines are south of your farm or something). For this update tho I would settle for a handful of new farm types :3

it would be totally fair of him to do that, but also the original game made him a millionaire so I can imagine him just being happy getting to work on something he likes and have millions of people enjoy it.

also i've owned this forever but it always felt too daunting to get into. how much will i miss/mess up if i just stumble my way through it without looking up guides or walkthroughs or whatever?
