One thing that needs to be included, and will be, is that a non-spoiler description of the spoiler must be included.
I've suggested in the past that the spoiler tag be enhanced so that
Etc.
would work. In lieu of that, we can simply do it by hand.
e.g. The Halo 2 thread is rife with spoilers. If someone hasn't described what it spoils, and you are 80% through the game, how can you know if its something you already know about and are ready to discuss?
I think Alpha mentioned at one time the spoiler button would be added, but at a later time. I also agree with pheezer 100%, that guy has a good head on his shoulders.
Add to Search rule:
"We understand that you may have an urgent issue with a topic that may be at page 40, but we ask that you be persistant in the correct thread with what you have to say or ask."
I'm not sure I understand this one. Is it suggesting people bump a thread on page 40 with a question if it's relevant to that thread?
I also don't think the mods should have to have a public IM account. I'm sure if these guys aren't on the forum, they are probably doing something else and don't want to be bothered by forumers complaining of flaming or a bad thread.
I know this wasn't part of the intent of the thread, but maybe Alpha could set up a report button to email the mods of a particular forum and also show who used the report button to prevent people from abusing it. Sort of a mod signal.

Spoilers without context should be considered joke spoilers. I recommend the titling or tagging of spoilers as well, since tagging a joke spoiler removes some of its punch.

That's not the only thing you people complain about.
Ecoterrorism is actually the single largest terrorist threat at the moment. They don't usually kill people, but they blow up or set on fire very expensive things.
The spoiler whining is getting annoying. If you go into a thread entitled best game ending, you can probably guess that you're going to have stuff spoiled for you. Deal with it or don't go into the thread. Yes, it's good if people spoiler tag stuff, but the incessant bitching that our measures aren't draconian enough is really getting on my tits. Having to highlight every bloody thread just because some people lack self control is not a thought that I treasure.

It was in regard to making threads on already existing topics.

This is why I mentioned that it is voluntary. I made an AIM account specifically for being IM'ed about forum stuff when I was modded. It's not a "have to", it's a "can you"."

Can't multiple people be logged into a single AIM account at the same time? If so, then maybe a single account for each forum can be used as sort of an APB to that forum's mods.

but ct. people need to be protected. if they find something out that they didn't want spoiled, then they would die. maybe from cancer. and most likely, all alone.
maybe there should be an officially spoiled thread and an official pristine happy-fun no spoil-thread. and people could be happy.

People will never be happy, and they will always be able to find something to complain about, and that's that. So I think it's best to just be reasonable.

Then who the hell is supposed to enjoy those kinds of threads? People who dont care about spoilers for anything at all? I believe that is a small minority.
Everyone else cant use them at all because you have to assume that at least one post will spoil something you havent gotten to yet, and that's bullshit.
"Having to highlight every bloody thread just because some people lack self control is not a thought that I treasure."
Why would you have to highlight a thread? Its a individual post by post basis.
I have THOUSANDS of posts, and maybe 5 of those were spoilers. OH MAN THE BURDEN OF TAGGING THOSE 5 POSTS WAS UNBEARABLE! ARGGG
"that our measures aren't draconian enough"
aside from that being the buzzword of the week, if steam forums can enforce a simple rule, I think we can too. I'd like to think we have a higher proportion of decency and consideration here.
the point is even if you actively avoid obvious locations of spoilers, ("Halo 2 ending thread") it's not enough. entire thread subjects ("Best game endings thread") become offlimits because of their nature, and moreover, assholes unapologetically slap spoilers into random threads all the time ("Halo 2 deal at bestbuy! thread")
and its totally a mindset of the forumers, that has to be encouraged/directed/focused by the rules. if other forums can mark their spoilers almost across the board, why cant ours? because of this lazy "ehh its not really a problem who cares oh noes spoilers" attitude? probably.
you cant let a minority of people who truly dont give a shit about anything to ruin the experience for everyone who does.
Gosh, what an angry young man. The fact remains that it's not really a very big problem though. One might even call it an insignificant, rubbish problem that isn't worth discusing. And highlighting a thread full of posts marked as spoilers involves highlighting the whole thread. Do you see how that works?
We need opinion and hyperbole and sarcasm tags. D&D could also use a conservative and a liberal tag, along with a good and evil tag set*. That way, instead of actually making a value judgment or anything silly like that for ourselves, or extrapolating from thread titles or surrounding text whether or not we would like to participate in a discussion, we could simply let the tags be our guide into bovine oblivion.

oh man spoiler tags so naturally leads into tagging and labeling everything. it's not like they are a practical tool that can be used.
who needs nice practical things. man.
i want a stupid tag for my posts.

In the rules thread in G&T, I would like to ask that the subject of modded consoles be addressed. I looked in the rules thread, saw nothing telling me I couldn't ask about modding a console (I only saw rules about emulators and ROM'S), so I made the thread, and it was deleted, after which I was told threads about modding consoles are against the rules.
So I'd like to suggest that you put this in the rules, and if if it's there and I missed it somehow, state it more clearly and explicitly.
Thanks.

The rules do not specifically mention modded consoles. Though, I think it should because it is quite a gray area. The current mod team knows what is best, but in any case it should be addressed.
