Asheville native Maria Norris said protesters started out downtown with police by their sides, peacefully escorting marchers through downtown and eventually onto the Bowen Bridge.

“We started out very peacefully, we marched… we all stayed peaceful," Norris said. “They took a knee with us, one of the officers shook my hand and they gave me a bottle of water."

But once protesters made it onto the bridge, Norris said, "we were met with tear gas and force from the Asheville Police Department. They waited, they worked with us as long as we were at the courthouse. When we stayed in the middle of town everything was fine.

“When we got to the bridge, when we got away from the tourism and the money and the hoity toity rich people that run this city they gassed us. They closed us off on the bridge and they gassed us," she said.

it's very important to not put basically any stock in the scattered reports of police marching alongside protests and dropping off cases of bottled water and shit. something similar happened in atlanta where the chief spent some time talking to protesters and everyone was all hopeful, and then she left and the cops teargassed and shot people. we probably shouldn't be getting too hopeful about the cities where things haven't gotten violent yet either. all it takes is for one cop to decide to start some shit for crowds to react and i think it'll be very difficult for the police to not go back to the old ways. i hope i'm wrong on this, but we'll see

whether this all is a result of individual cops being intentionally duplicitous or the rank and file not listening to leadership or warring factions within departments doesn't matter. we cannot trust the police. they've decided we're the enemy and you don't do nice things for your enemy

Rather than individual cops being duplicitous, it seems like a general police strategy to get those Good Cop photo ops to feed the press while they brutalize the protestors later, and lead the protesters away from capital before starting the beatings so they can't break windows in the masters' property.

Without a macro timeline of all the pieces, kinda hard to be firm.

My gut wants to believe in an all powerful oppressor, my brains considers the possibility of a ununified force and competing factions.

Both suck as far as America's future is concerned.

Thanks for all the information DouglasDanger, but I am specifically looking for evidence that cops infiltrate protests to turn them into riots or cops destroying property to make the protests look worse. I have made those specific claims in conversations and have realized that I don't really have any good evidence for them.

You're not going to find a lot of concrete information, because, well, proof requires prosecution and prosecution requires arrests. If you want stuff from these recent protests, there's not definitive proof yet that the undercover cops (who are extremely visible, if you just want to find some pictures of them) are actually serving as agent provocateurs.

But a few years back there was an incident where an undercover cop got convicted of coercion (amongst other things) for his role in the assault of a family during a large scale motorcycle ride sort of thing:

It’s hard to see but she’s either wearing a badge or like a Columbus Crew t shirt (it’s reported to be a badge, I’m making fun of my own eyesight)

There are other videos claiming that the car was damaged by rioters first and what is being seen is the police removing the broken windows and windshield to make the cruiser drive-able. This is just a friendly reminder to remember double check things even if what is shown is something you want to see.

If anyone has evidence of cop's agitating protests to riot or cop's purposely causing property damage please post it. I have been searching for some evidence to show my father as we talk about current events.

Why do they need to drive it when they can tow it?

Probably because it would be hard, if not impossible, to get a towing truck through the protests, and the car would probably burn out if left there unattended. Like, I'm not pro cop or anything, but come on. We don't need to play dumb or make shit up, there is an overabundance of instances of cops being garbo without having to resort to that

that's a very good point, it's definitely strategically useful for them. one more checkmark in the Don't Trust The Fuckin' Cops column

They have physical access to his person and firearms. The tweet is confusingly phrased, they asked him what he thought of cops calling members of the press "part of the problem, if not the entire problem"

to which he replied that it's totally cool that press is there, and should not be restricted, document everything. Which is not what is happening.

We were making a statement about bigotry in the game, so that made sense to us to draw that connection." And then those same people just baffled or disappointed as Cage claims that the game has no theme like that in it, it's only about robots.
