Checking around, and here's the thing. Toei shows have the show themes planned over a year on advance, since making toys takes time. Gen Urobuchi described it as being told "here's the toy catalog, make a story about it".
So having the current PreCure show (Healin' Good PreCure) being Doctor themed against bad guys that make people sick with diseases on this cursed year is...something. I don't know what, but is something.
It's a pretty common theme - Kamen Rider did it a few years back with Ex-Aid.
Beyond the Boundary was very pretty and had some awesome kinetic animation, but I really found the story to be pretty bland unfortunately, especially the back half of it...

The show peaked at episode 4 and really didn't have anywhere to go after that.
Anywho, Isekai are my guilty pleasure. I just wish they'd animate even more. So many dumb good ones out there. The dude who can just kill people is a great example of such a dumb premise it's horseshoeing it's way back to good.
Or just a second season of death march. The badly handwaved slave apologia aside, it pretty much ticks all the boxes. Dude is just a 30 something who wants to be a tourist. The LN are a good bit better since you get more of his internal commentary but I realize that'd be awkward to do in anime.
honestly i think my favorite flavor of isekai is the reverse-isekai, where the fantasy people come into the real world. restaurant to another world, or GATE without the military fetishism

Isn't Gate without the military fetishism just FFTA2? Hmm. I can get behind that.
Oh also that reminds me: Isekai Ojisan is both amazing and kind of really darkly sad if you think about it even a little. Poor old dude.
I think my favourite thing about Bakarina is that it has zero game-y stuff in it, whereas essentially every single isekai has some sort of game-related thing.
The only game-related thing in it is that it's why she has foreknowledge of all the upcoming events, at least until the end of the first season.
We need an anime of Welcome to Japan, Ms. Elf. Working class guy goes to an isekai when he sleeps, and treats going on adventures as a vacation. Then he accidentally finds out he can bring an Elf he knows back to Japan and starts giving her tours. Also has plenty of food porn.

Hataraku Maou is a good one, dunno if you watched/read it yet. It's on Netflix.

There's one that mixes the two. Dude isekais to another world while he sleeps and when he dies in that world he wakes up in his, with time adjusting to make it the next morning so it's all like a dream. When he dies protecting his longtime friend from a dragon though, the two of them holding on to each other, he wakes up in his world and finds out that she came along. Now he's teaching her about modern-day Japan necessities in between their return trips to the other world each night.
I like Bakarina and I don't think I've actually watched any others
Wha? No spirited Away? Fushigi Yugi? El-Hazard? Captain N? The adventures of super Mario bros.3?
So many classics.
Honestly the only one of those I've seen is Spirited Away and I'm somewhat skeptical of that being considered an Isekai except in the loosest possible definition.
Next you'll be saying Alice in Wonderland is an Isekai.

I thought that one of the defining things of an Isekai is that the main character dies and is reincarnated in the other world?
That's just one type. Isekai literally just means "another world" and it can range from the protagonist dying and reincarnating to just being transported. Moonlit Journey for example has the main character making the cross-world trip still very much alive. Digimon would also qualify as an isekai along with Magic Knight Rayearth.

Isekai Ojisan is good, I am going to stick with it until tsundere elf and ojisan finally meet again
Putin isekai is surprisingly good, good art good character and world building, the actual name is The Ride-on King Saihate no Paladin is pretty refreshing for the isekai genre
Something which is not isekai The old knight in the borders - Bard Leon is really good and not your typical japanese fantasy manga

The trick with inuyasha is it's not just feudal japan, it's fantasy feudal "japan" full of supernatural monsters under every rock and magic is real. It might as well be Narnia.

Like, Tanya from saga of Tanya the Evil is transported to WW1 Europe but with magic and uses her knowledge of history to gain significant advantages. It’s still an isekai.
Humor can be dissected as a frog can, but dies in the process.

Except Tanya is sent to a different world. She's told this in very plain words.
Inuyasha is very specific about it just being the past. Kagome does things in the past that she learns made the future what it is.
If you go into a coma and wake up in 20 years you haven't been Isekai'd. Time just moved without you being aware of it.

I was liking that until it started to slowly move towards the whole "let's abuse game mechanics and grind for XP and shit" stuff. Guys, you can just have a cute romantic comedy. It's allowed. You don't need to make it about stats juggling and rpg fights like everything else.

It can always get worse. You're basically daring the universe right here.
My understanding is his previous series, Fire Punch, demonstrates this perfectly.
oh hee

I mean technically yes. So is Wizard of Oz.

This will be here until I receive an apology or Weedlordvegeta get any consequences for being a bully
It's the exact same idea, though. Just "Feudal Japan" instead of "Fake medieval Europe"
Yeah but it's not 'another world' it's the same world.
If she could become immortal and stood in one place she'd eventually end up in the same time she left, etc.
I feel like thats a pretty strong distinction.
It really isn’t.

How low stakes are we talkin here?
Bofuri.
Ideally we're talkin the comfy levels of Laid Back Camp.
