    I am enjoying...

Eye of Ra- simple enough game but the atmosphere is so lonely and perfect. I love how disconnected you feel from even what you're doing.

From Orbit- it's okay. There's no real depth to the game at all but it's fun for a bit.

Kids- I need to go lie down now, I'm weirded out.

    I played Kids.

It was certainly a series of things that I clicked on and looked at

I'm having a ton of fun with Gladiabots. Yes, the whole game is just a gui for AI programming but I love it, they really broke it down into challenges really well.

I jumped into a neat little shmup from the itch.io bundle last night called Cycle 28.

You're caught in a timeloop. Every life resets the loop. But there's a secret, a story, and a way out.
Your loops start getting punctuated with garbled messages.
And you might notice enemies only become hostile after firing your weapons.
If you explore, you might find the borders of the loop - A giant barrier around your position - trapped in space as well as time.
    However, there's a door.
If you go fully pacifist all the way to the end of the loop - 6 minutes - the loop doesn't reset.
But the door doesn't open. There's another step.

    This where shit gets deep.
If you note the garbled messages from your loops, you'll find what looks like a pattern, refering P# - L# - W# in the garbage, referring to the Page - Line - Word.

But there's no obvious book or text to pull from.
But on the title screen, there's some pixel art of a book in the cockpit.

It took months for ARG players to work out that this referred to a real book, and what that book was.
So they found a sequence of jumbled words, from clues not just in the game but on the website and in dev videos.
Again, it was months before anyone managed to assemble a sentence out of them.
The sentence directed the players to change their Steam name to a single word that summarised a particular page of the book.
(This has now been updated so that you can put your player name into the itch.io version).
Once you had changed your name to the right word, finishing a Pascifist run would open the door.

There were a few things through the door, but it was basically a maze doubling as the credits finale.

But seriously, that's a lot of effort to get to the final ending for a small indie game.

X-Com LP Thread I, II, III, IV, V
That's unbelievably cool. Your new name is cool guy. Let's have sex.

Man, there are so many games in this bundle that there are two where you're caught in a time loop, and two where you play as a cat in a space suit. I would have thought those categories were pretty specific but I guess when you have this many games in one place there's bound to be some overlap.

Buy it as a gift with your own email address. There's a unique url in the email that you can then hand out at your leisure which gives you access to the bundle

I've been playing Underhero. It's given me strong Paper Mario vibes. Not from a specific one, but a mix of them. Traversal involves light platforming and puzzle solving while battles involve waiting for a stamina gauge to power a few different attacks with different ranges/timings as well as trying to jump over, duck under, or dodge enemy attacks like if you took The Thousand Year Door combat and attached a Final Fantasy ATB system to it.

I'm probably around the halfway point as I'm guessing it's a total of 4 worlds to go through and I'm at the early bit of the 3rd.

Underhero is pretty good though i'm at a part where the combat has started to become tedious and I hit a part with terrible checkpointing after a game over so i'm taking a break. I think I just need to parry the spiders more.

Playing Fossil Hunters in the meantime and dang if it isn't great just mindlessly digging up and connecting dinosaur bones.

I poked around with a couple random games. So far the neat find for me has been Six Match. It's a match-3 type game, like bejeweled, but with puzzle dragon vibes, as you control a cursor that moves around in the grid. The catch is that you always have 6 moves to make a match, and once you score, the timer resets. So it's very strategic in looking around for where your next move will be. And then they start introducing new tile types that change up the behavior. It's pretty great for how simple it is.

Parrying becomes a big deal starting from world 2. The spiders especially are a pain unless you reflect their web spit back at them for slow effects and go faster if you reflect their poison spit back too. As a rule you need to use each ability you have as there are also some enemies that can hit you from behind and therefore can't parry too.

    Okay.

    Seriously.

    For Seriouslies.

Play this damn game. Gladiabots. Do not be intimidated by what it is, the tutorial is very kind in stepping you through, and the challenges are stepped at such a perfect pace that you will find yourself up all night long re-writing your AI's and reorganizing sub-routines and watching the AI go to work.

Every match in single-player has you watch one or more of your bots do something stupid, see one of the opponent's bots do something smart, and then ask yourself, "How do I do that smart thing as well, but also keep the smart things I've come up with thus far?" Last night I was on a goddamn high, watching my shotgun bot figure out how to dance around the battlefield until it got close enough to a lone bot in the back carrying the McGuffin to its base, assassinated it, then zipped over to the enemy sniper bot and assassinated it as well.

Well, the titular bundle is over, but Humble Bundle have just announced their own Fight for Racial Justice bundle:

    https://www.humblebundle.com/fight-for-racial-justice-bundle?hmb_source=navbar&hmb_medium=product_tile&hmb_campaign=tile_index_1

This one isn't quite as crazy as the itch.io one; more pricey and less items, but the games seem to be a bit more mainstream, and, to be blunt, generally of better quality. Of particular interest to me:
    • System Shock 1 & 2
    • Jack Box Party Pack 4
    • Spelunky
    • Bioshock Remastered
    • This War of Mine
    • Overlord 2
    • Company of Heroes 2
    • No Time to Explain
    • Elite Dangerous

And in the category of "Only not of interest because I already own them":
    • Kerbal Space Program
    • FTL
    • Regular Human Basketball

I'm considering making this a generic thread for game bundles, or we can just let it die once people are done discussing the games in the itch bundle. Thoughts?

You also get Steam keys for the Humble Bundle, the lack of them was probably the only way the itch bundle was able to be as cheap as it was

That wouldn't be a bad idea, right now they tend to get sprinkled around random threads.

At the very least, it's a good thread for any bundles also giving to charity for this reason.

Still working may way through, recommendations

Jimmy and the Pulsating Mass - Earthbound style RPG with some fun dark elements.

The Hex - six video game protagonists find themselves in a spooky inn. Its not spoiling too much to say that gameplay-wise you'll be trying lots of different stuff here, but beyond that this is best unspoiled

Glittermitten Grove - keep playing past the first half hour even if you hate the game initially, tip: dig deep.

Bleed 2 - gunstar heroes crossed with katana zero.

Death and Taxes, you are a grim reaper in an office, you choose who lives and dies according to quotas. Your choices may have repurcussions.

I picked up the itch.io bundle a few days ago because hey, why not. Then I ended up getting an addon for the GOG Galaxy client so I can see my itch.io games. It kinda works, although it tends to crap out and needs to be completely disconnected and reconnected to work again, plus it's just a list of the games you own with no way to download them from within GOG Galaxy. But that's fine, I just wanted a list since I have like 8 damn game clients now and want to be able to see if I own something or not.

There's a lot of amazing-looking stuff in the bundle. One I'm interested in trying out, but know I'll probably not end up enjoying, is I Have Low Stats But My Class Is "Leader", So I Recruited Everyone I Know To Fight The Dark Lord which is an RPG where you have a party of 99 characters, so there's a lot of setup involved. Hilarious idea.

One game I won't play in the bundle because I've already played through it in Steam is Runner3. This is absolutely worth playing if you haven't played it, though. It's a stage-based 2D runner game with obstacles set to the rhythm of the music. Also, it has Charles Martinet as himself as the game's narrator. I highly recommend it!

I was pretty interested in Lizzi Crossing since it's Picross-meets-Minesweeper, but it feels like it could use a little more polish.

I haven't really tried much beyond that.

Lots of great stuff in that Humble bundle, but I own at least 25 of the games in there. Two of my favorites are Spelunky and FTL.

I couldn't do more than 10 minutes of Your Future Self. I couldn't get past the premise being weird (why is my present day self trying to convince my future self to not do a thing they've already done? shouldn't it be my future self telling my past self not to do it?) Also my future self was a pretentious asshole and I would prefer to not speak to them anymore.

That's exactly what I want, but for the life of me I can't get that add-on to work. I got the tauqua version, not the ertego one, and itch.io shows up in my list, I logged in and it's even connected some of the time, but there are just "No results" under that bookmark no matter how many times I disconnect, reconnect or restart.

Yeah, that's the one I have. For me, though, I get most of my games in my list, plus a bunch of "Unknown Games". The install instructions were missing a step for me: I had to create a folder to extract the addon into. But like I said, it only worked for a while, then it loses the connection. It keeps whatever games it already detected on there, but won't add any more. Hopefully the addon creator can fix it.

Tried a bunch of games and most of them didn't really click (I'm really picky). Then gave Depth of Extinction a try and it's a pretty competent low-budget post-apocalyptic XCOM. Plot is whatever but I enjoy the gameplay and the different gear and abilities you get.

Anybody know if there's any other "true" roguelikes than Midboss in the bundle? I tried that one and it was fairly bland and uninteresting once you figure out the possession mechanics,

I haven't looked through all of the games yet, but I think Possession counts as a traditional roguelike. Don't know how its body-switching mechanic compares to Midboss.

Realm of the Ghost King and Cinco Paus are both quality turn-based "coffee break" roguelikes. The first reminds me vaguely of Bomber Man. The second is about trying to identify your magical weapons random effects fast enough that you can use them to effectively make it though the dungeon. Also it's in Portuguese, though there isn't much text and you start recognizing the important words pretty quickly.
