I load up about 900 albums onto my phone and sometimes make themed playlists out of that stuff. I keep kicking myself for not buying the bigger HD phone. Next time!
I have decade based playlists on Spotify with a few hundred songs each, plus artists specific lists, and I get some great stuff generated for me on my daily mixes. I used to be super into cultivating a library and buying hella CDs but after a while I started to see them more as just stuff taking up space. I blame the lack of concerts killing my enthusiasm for music.

I gace that new Grima a listen - decent is the right word. It has some real high points but not enough of them to overcome the kind of mid-tempo atmospheric black metal rut that's not. . .bad but certainly nothing new.
The Hulder debut was pretty solid tho.

I missed this in October, but it looks like Gygax got control over their catalog back after posting a message on bandcamp earlier last year about a dispute with their label.
Chilling out with the new Tribulation album, and it's pretty good, I loved the last two and this kind of continues that tradition of gloomier horror heavy metal with Goth rock vibes and harsh vocals.
Indeed. It's been quite awhile since we got a new Pharaoh album, I mean I like a lot of Chris Black's other bands (High Spirits, Aktor, etc.) but they don't quite scratch this itch.
Damn, this Mongrel's Cross album is tasty. Also halfway through the first list!

So this is a band I apparently missed last year and am currently checking out their album. Loathe is kind of metalcore, maybe? It's noisier, darker. It's more nuanced, feels a lot more raw and off the cuff. Deconstructed and put back together wrong.
I'm digging it so far. Using dissonant jangle chords for a breakdown of sorts works, apparently.
Edit: Further take. This album has a certain quality to it I haven't really heard in modern metal for some time: It feels unrefined, dirty, grimy, uncomfortable in spots, but most of all just kind of a breath of fresh air. It kind of reminds me of the texture of Converge's later work, but not musically similar if that makes sense. It's a really raw, experimental take on a lot of stuff and I can definitely see it having a limited audience being so acerbic and caustic in sound, punctuated with dreamy almost Deftones like sections. I certainly think I'm going to end up loving it quite a bit.

ye i posted a few times their stuff when this album dropped
two-way mirror is a great shoegaze track, theres some interesting harsh stuff on there, a sad cartoon / the title track are well-rounded
i enjoyed the album a lot tho i suspect the variability will stop it from being a complete victory for many
EDIT:
as far as what ive been listening to a bunch of prog but this prog/folk/blues greek shit was very fun
i feel like loathe are basically some kinda prog metal but due to the screamed vox i want to say progcore but its like who cares man its metal genres the only real genre is vikings

I think they have a significant bit of 90's alt/grunge aesthetics (beyond using the distorted mirror music video trick), including the track variability and the general dark feel of the material. That's not to say I think it sounds like Nirvana but there's some shared traits outside of sonics. I can definitely draw parallels between an album like Dirt or Badmotorfinger to I Let It In and It Took Everything. But also some Mr. Bungle or even The Dillinger Escape Plan's later stuff like Miss Machine.
I think this is probably a good candidate for an alt-metal tag to actually mean something.
I have a feeling this is gonna be a contender for Album of the Year for a Previous Year I Slept On.

Very interesting from a technical stand point using pedal tones and string-crossings to mimic the tapping but still throwing the occasional natural harmonic in.

He's had some good stuff from time to time, I have all his CDs, although that debut was clearly the best. I just dig his stuntman/horror/exploitation aesthetics, and also he's from the town next to mine. But yeah this is the best track in a long time, I hope the rest lives up to it.

Also the new Wardruna is very good, my CD just showed up, a nice epilogue to Assassins Creed Valhalla while I wait for the DLC.

Almost forgot how much this album kicks ass.
Some of his bandmates from Aktor are in another band called Pharaoh Overlord too. Just got a kick out of that.

Was literally just coming to post this
This
Shit
Slaps
Yeah, I'll be visiting their bandcamp after work.
If this is not near the top of my list at the end of the year, then I'll be pleasantly suprised.
If that's not near the top of our lists at the end of the year, it will have been quite a year!
Definitely puts them at the top of that pile of 'return to the earlier Greek BM style' bands including Katavasia, Disharmony, etc.
I've already started my year off with 2 slappers, and there's one I'm anticipating will at least be decent in 3 days.

Harshanand Singh, according to bandcamp
the work is too clean and less impressionistic for lewandowski, who rules

I have a feeling I'm gonna end up in the "should've been a single disc with 6 tracks" camp.
Yeah, they’re a little one note for something that long
Not sure if they’re mixing it up on the new stuff but that’s my gut
The 3 songs I've heard show they're doing some grooves on top of the melodies, so there's some changeup, but it's still definitely HFTS.
Edit: Also apparently it got punted to Feb 19th

And she's just a machine gun in the tremolo section. Of course Eddie cribbed Paganini for that part anyway, so it is right in her wheelhouse.
Jill seemingly eats metal and prog for breakfast. Here's the first thing that got her on my radar:

This is the most interested I've been in a Rob Zombie joint since I can remember.
Kinda fell off of that train when "Living Dead Girl" hit, couldn't stand that song.

I liked this track so I've been giving it a full spin at work and man, this one rips.
That stoner fuzz is pretty excellent, and dudes got some pipes.
