Just got that in my mailbox, along with the new Midnight Odyssey which...who knows if it's even metal this time but I still enjoy most of his releases.
I'm way the fuck outta the loop but I see that Pat isn't in the band anymore. I mean, I assume the obvious but has there been any talk about it?
The way I understand it is that Pat's got some stuff to work through, including the legal issues surrounding his arrest; but the band is continuing to show its support for him and if it ever gets cleared it up he'll probably be back.
New Mare Cognitum incoming and it sounds a little more focused than their previous outing so sign me up
Came here to post this also. 100% digging the teaser track. Link for the lazy
Seeing as the festive season is well and truly over, and with the weight of thread ownership weighing heavily upon me. Does anyone have any suggestions for thread title?

Sadly I can offer no suggestions. Most of my family are scattered in southern Missouri and northern Arkansas. Keeping the Christmas lights up year round is just something you do.

Okay, Jill from Unlucky Morpheus seems to be on a one Japanese woman mission to prove that no matter the guitarist, she can play their shit at least as well as they can on only 4 strings. Today's victim, Yngwie Malmsteen:

Possibly a tad late now in early Feb, but [Hesher] At the Heart of Winter
I was literally just scanning my collection and trying to think of something clever. But I now realize that forum-goers outside of this thread probably already don't know what a hesher is, so changing it to "Þesher" is just going to confuse people. Maybe they'll think it's a thread about runes or something.
All these folks trying to be the Hiroo Onoda of the Loudness War...
[Hesher]lied, featuring the singles [Hesher] zu [Hesher] and Wollt ihr das Bett in [Hesher] sehen?
I'm strongly resisting the urge to start playing with Bal-Sagoth titles just to try to one-up this.
How about: ÞÞÞÞÞÞÞÞÞÞ[Þesher]
Most Bal-Sagoth titles probably wouldn't fit in the character limit
Starfire Burning Upon the Ice-Veiled Throne of [Hesher]
Also, I must just say that Fenriz Navidad was fucking inspired. Genuinely brilliant. Could always stick with the same band and have something like A [Hesher] in the Northern Sky or Transilvanian [Hesher]
(Regarding the latter: was that title a typo? I've often wondered.)
All [Heshers'] Eve would be a good one to remember for next October.
There are a bunch of rumors about why Transilvanian Hunger is spelled that way. An intentional misspelling, maybe? Or I thought I read it had something to do with the misspelled t-shirt Dead was wearing when Euronymous found him after his shotgun suicide. Who knows, maybe Fenriz talks about it somewhere else.

We could always go with [Hesher] Eximperituserqethhzebibšiptugakkathšulweliarzaxułum
Who also have a new album out, pretty good technical death metal.
Yeah, definitely fans of Nile and Sulphur Aeon should check out that new Eximperatus album. No I can't be bothered to type the whole name. Trolls hahah!

OK, a request:
A year or two ago, someone here posted that Vince McMahon reaction meme using stoner doom as the subject. Something like "heavy riff plays for 10 minutes" and then in another panel "I SMOKE WEED ATOP A MOUNTAIN", followed by "riff comes back even heavier."
Now that I've taken all the fun out of it by describing it, does anyone still have it? It pops up in my head every few weeks and cracks me up. I tried searching for it in the previous thread, but lost my patience after browsing 25 pages.

I myself thought this board no longer had a metal thread for like years, despite being a long time fan of both this board and metal, because I didn't know what a hesher was. One day I clicked on the thread out of curiosity, maybe the subtitle clued me in, and went "oh god dammit"

Soilwork put out a "movie" for A Whisp of the Atlantic which I didn't watch all the way through because it appears to be all the videos for the songs off said EP stitched together. And I haven't liked any of those videos. The music's still good, though.

I too went through these exact motions. Had probably been on the board in some form for quite a few years before the event actually .
If you're seeking out some Tolkien black metal you could do worse than the new Keys of Orthanc. The rasps could have been mixed a little better but overall it's savage.
Which Darkthrone album is most comparable to Ravishing Grimness? Bonus if it can be obtained on vinyl. Also are you guys familiar with the Thomas Eriksen podcast? It's possible I heard about it here but I don't remember.
Yep, I listen to Thomas Eriksen's podcast, one of the few places you're going to get extended interviews with a lot of these guys.
As for Darkthrone, try Plaguewielder or Panzerfaust, maybe Total Death or Sardonic Wrath. I would think their entire discography has been on vinyl.
I'm sure it has, some albums are more readily available than others though. I'll probably pick up Sardonic Wrath if I can find it because I liked that one quite a bit. I think I even got it from you originally haha.
I don't know how much the prognardery runs in everyone else here but the new Transatlantic album is pretty good, all of their vocals are great including Mike's, the bass is great, lots of stuff on the disc celebrating the prog rock of the last like 30-40 years. Not entirely metal but it gets there a few times.
Also liking what I'm hearing from the new Lake of Tears. It's different, moodier, very atmospheric, and a little experimental for them, but you can still hear the core of their doom sound in there.
Very nice track, I'm very hot or cold on Transatlantic, the albums of theirs I like I'd almost ask to be buried with but when I bounce off I bounce off hard. Thus far their new one is in the former.
I will always respect them for a great prog "Hold my beer" moment by playing all 80 minutes of the Whirlwind in London.
