I remember, in about 09, a strange man trying to make small talk with me during a theatre intermission. He was a friend of a friend we were watching in the play. I don't remember much about him apart from he wore a trench coat, he had a neckbeard, and he insisted on spending the whole intermission trying to explain his favourite we comics to me.

Cut to a few months later, I was bored on nightshift so I googled "webcomic", clicked the first thing that came up and ended up here. Now I'm a queer militant anarchist so thanks, strange threatre-going, webcomic evangelist!

A friend of mine in high school my senior year introduced me to both Penny Arcade and MC Frontal it, and I've been fans of both ever since. I didn't read any other webcomic until about 10 years ago though, it was PA exclusively

I do vaguely remember some controversy over a webcomic artist that did sort of 8-bit sprite art and some people used his work without his permission or something? And he was being a gigantic cockwomble about it? I forget the details

Bob and George? It was pretty much Bob and George and 8bit Theatre at the time, and B&G had a whole host of imitators. Not sure if it was Bob and George, but whoever was complaining was being a dummy about it, cos the sprites they used were from a game.

I'm almost entirely sure that I was the leading cause of Amtrak halting their alcohol carry on policy by passing out in the dining car thanks to the PAX Train after a fun night of drinking.

Did you know you can play risk or other board games on a train despite it being VERY wobbly? Now you do.

It's not like I would've had space in my seat, really. (No one was in the car/traincart either so I didn't hurt anyone's time but who knows? Certainly not me, since I was passed out.)

No, I looked it up and it was A Modest Destiny by Squidi.

Edit: Apparently theirs was all original sprite work so perhaps them being mad about it was wholly justified, but I remember thinking they were an ass at the time. I don't remember if they came to these forums or not

I remember stumbling across this site in '03 due to searching Max Payne mod stuff online (was suuuper obsessed with those games in MS/HS), and their parody comic of the game is what got me hooked on checking the site every so often; Gabe's review of Rogue Squadron II is another bit of minutiae that comes to mind.

Registered an account in '05 and the rest, as they say, is history. Though I am but a lurker/whitenoise poaster, I've always appreciated the community here as a backdrop/timesink throughout the years - definitely helped me seek out/learn more about things beyond my bubble at the time.

Still incredible to think how much of a shift Tube's glorious edict, and other moderating efforts, changed the culture (of the PA boards writ large) for the better without losing parts of what made it appealing to begin with.

IIRC there's a newspost about this because Squidi threatened to sue Mike and Jerry over forumers using his sprites (modified to look like individual user avatars) without permission. Eventually Squidi forumers came here to complain which triggered SE to go raid their forums until we all got yelled at for being assholes in public

The strides this community has made to better itself over the years are amazing

I do miss illustrated grouphug threads though

I remember someone getting hauled off the train in 2009 somewhere around Shasta for drunk and disorderly. I don't think it was a PA'er though.

Ironically, it was a H/A thread, some dude was sketched out because his girlfriend went on a boat trip with some other dude and ever since she's been weird. And was kind of liveblogging the situation somewhat. Turns out. They fucked on the boat.

I keep trying to think of what, exactly, Tube said when money for charity got raised and he had to play the entirety of the Hitman game that he hates. Something about dog's cock in your eye, and fly a horse into your mother's vagina. Crocodile shithouse whore? I forget, but the gist of it stuck with me.
