i think kulve in pre iceborn was a huge success at first and a bunch of people did it. safi was less interesting and didnt have all the hype about the kulve casino giving the best weapons in the game by far. guiding lands was bleh, and i feel like the vast majority were bored with the stuff from my last comment and quit before fatalis even came out.
i am actually kinda mad chameleos is being advertised as the first dlc for rise. like woo a boring to fight 20 year old elder, how original. good to know ill be completely done progressing and at elder farm status a month after the game releases.
I have no experience in this, as World is my first foray, but I cannot imagine they put Chameleos in the game without a rework or at least an update.
Edit: I HAVE seen the Chameleos fight, so I'm not just blindly groping.

Going from W/IB to Rise is going to be interesting, because there's so many mechanics in Rise that have made the game more complex, but potentially better dependent on execution.
Switching skills, wirebug moves, not farming decos, and not having that horrendous pre-World spreadsheet skill system come back are all positives for me. The diversity in monsters that I've seen so far just blows W/IB out of the water, as that was like 90% Fucked Up Dinosaurs.
thats because elders are boring af to fight and 30 minute superbosses are a slog, but we've already been over that. the climb is more fun than the peak.
That's fair.
I just think the amount of people who have done the Guiding Lands, Kulve Taroth, Safi'jiiva, and Fatalis are significantly less than those who killed Shara Ishvalda and called it good.
I did some Guiding Lands, but I did none of the "you have to be in a party to have a decent chance of killing this thing" bosses in World. Monster Hunter games for me are an entirely solo affair, so stuff like Behemoth or Kulve that is not really feasible for a normal human to solo, I'm never going to touch.
if capcom has any humanity the deviljho returning announcement better be in the form of a queropeco calling it. i personally hate jho, but know he will be back, might as well hope for best fire chicken.

I'm very excited for Rise and Rise PC.
i think any game that has leviathans is better. i kinda wish gobbul and/or nibelsnarf made a return. they both kinda have extra little gimmicks to make their fight more interesting. id be happy if they added stuff like that to other monsters but w/e.

i would understand cutting khezu, but i don't like it.
i think i'm mostly nostalgic from how well-introduced the first khezu fight was in mhf2, though.

I think malbaro from final fantasy would make for a decent MH monster, and I think Bahamut and Ifrit could be a good elder dragon style fights.

I don't mind Khezu as a design, though I think Gigginox executes the same concept better for the most part, but the fact they've never really updated its attacks (or at least give it some battle music!) is very disappointing. I'd be less bothered by the old, bad monsters returning if they at least updated them to make them fun to fight, as they did with Rathalos/Diablos when moving to Tri.

I was honestly surprised they made it so that Alatreon's difficulty scaled down appropriately. It's the only boss monster I've been able to solo.

Chameleos doesn't have any of the super annoying nonsense of some of the elders at least.
In general, all pre-Tri fights are shit, and the only older monsters that work got reworked for Tri.
Chameleos got close to a Tri-level rework for GU. I think the only thing unchanged is its 3D model. They turned the fight on its head by reversing when it's invisible, making it far more active, fully reanimating it, and redoing its AI from scratch.
I love it now. If only they'd put the same level of effort into everything else.

There's a stream today at 5pm EST (I think) so probably some time after that. Folks are saying 7pm EST as that would count as the 12th in the regions that list that date.
EDIT: The demo download button is "disabled" via a CSS class that can be turned off in the browser. No you can't download it, it just goes to the Rise eShop page. Just funny.
So, a comment during an SoS I responded to has me coming up with the 10 most important rules for Monster Hunting:
1. Always check your gear before leaving for a quest.
2. There is no such thing as bringing too much healing, there *is* such thing as bringing too little.
3. Always bring a trap; capture gets you more than killing, and what better revenge for the hell it gave you than having a bunch of gnomes poking at it for the rest of it's life?
4. Always check your gear before accepting a quest.
5. You will never know when explosives will be useful except for the moments you forgot to bring some.
6. Always have a full meal before leaving for a quest, preferably on someone else's dime.
7. Always check your gear before going to the quest board
8. Not using every item, tool, environmental hazard and nearby monster you can to get an advantage isn't being fair, it's being stupid.
9. A status effect the target has that you are not immune to or have cures for is a status effect that is going to kill you at least once that quest.
10. Always check your gear before doing anything that might involve your gear, which is anything at all.
Anyone want to add or modify?

Don't forget to check your gear.
"I will write your name in the ruin of them. I will paint you across history in the color of their blood."
I've felt like I only need to check my gear if I'm going on a hard hunt and need to make sure I'm not bringing a major elemental weakness against the monster.
When you're talking about no such thing as too much healing, do you mean like "bring max stacks of potions and mega potions," or like bring literally as many healing items as you can? Because I feel like the hotbar clutter from the latter can cause problems.

I try to do 10x Mega Potions, 10x Potions, and 10x Honey. I have a craft all Mega Potions action on my radial shortcuts so I basically have 20x Mega Potions.
NGL I almost never run bombs or traps or any of those strats. Healing items, vitality cloak if remember to press it, and the ground aoe healing thing if I'm running GL, and that's about it.
Edit: the rest is just too much messing with the item wheel
In world my inventory usually only has like 1 slot open. I run pots, megas, honey, hot/cold drinks, flash bombs, lifepowder, max pot, steaks, shock and pitfall traps, tranq bombs, big bombs, dung bombs, the stat talon things, far caster, and (in older games bug nets and pickaxes). There's probably something I'm forgetting.
It takes a lot of room to be ready for everything. But it is nice just pushing 1 button and it pulls everything out of your box to that loadout.
Did they change the capture thing? I know that in games before World capturing gets you slightly fewer drops off of a different table that's usually better, but I've heard that in World, the carve and capture rewards are identical.

you get the same # of rewards from both, but carves vs capture can have different chances for certain parts of the monster afaik (like gems, carves have better chance or something like that).

The Khezu song joke is the best thing about Khezu.
This is not because the joke is great, it's entirely average but still gets a chuckle. But "average" is far better than anything else abou Khezu.
