Stuck with new message notification

So, today I got an email that I had a new forum message from one of our favorite crazy conspiracy theorists, probably a mass spam. By time I got here the message was gone from my inbox, presumably because he was already banned. However, I'm now stuck with the red '1' notification that I have a new message, because I have no way of viewing the offending message. 'View all discussions' isn't clearing it out either.
