Continuing my 2020 anime rebirth.
We've finished rewatching Gundam Wing. I'd seen it back in the Toonami days, so first time watching subtitled. It has a really strong start but was pretty meh on it by the end. Endless Waltz was a pretty good epilogue/coda though.
Also Spacerunaway Ideon. Which is another Tomino show. I enjoyed this one quite a bit. It's from 1980 and has some weird rough edges, but really went some places and ended satisfyingly (with the movies).
There's a lot of stuff where you're like oh, this is where stuff in Evangelion comes from, but the sudden tv ending comboed with a movie extended telling of the ending on top of thematic similarities is wild.
And about 3/4 of the way through Armored Trooper Votoms original tv show. Have a lot more of that to watch still beyond that.
Then the slow side show for when I can't fall asleep now is Terror in Resonance. (Having finished Death Parade and Mob Psycho 100)
Plus the next Trails game comes out later this month, which all this started off with me marathoning those, so lots of anime-ing.
@Lanz hey when talking about Gundam series, especially the ultimate fate of characters that show up in multiple series, maybe USE SPOILER TAGS since people are still watching those shows for the first time.
So I guess Funimation is putting up some anime on Hulu again. No love is war though bah.

Wandering Witch: The Journey of Elaina
I like it. I think so far this is a show that is defintiely for young girls and I hope it gets a dub. The forst episodes moral is basically " Its ok to get pissed and complain when people treat you like shit" so it set the bar pretty high.
By the Grace of the Gods
Bog standard Isekai. Nothing special lots of non ecchi slimes( so far). Shockingly chaste
Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear
VRMMO series in the vein of Bofuri. Not quite as charming so far but I can see it getting there.
Our Last Crusade or the Rise of a New World
Lotta tits. Cool fights.
Akudama Drive
Not sure where this one is going. Its the criminals and one unlucky sap go on missions genre. Theres a talking cat!
The Day I Became A God
Littke girl Odin helps a dude before the world ends in a month. Its funny at times but the premise leads me to think it's gonna get melodramatic and fast
I have a podcast now. It's about video games and anime!Find it here.

I’m not really sure what happened there. I know the other guy probably just got knocked silly but I love it when someone busts out a reference that I wasn’t expecting to show up.

I like martial arts, but watching MMA just doesn't appeal to me. I'm amazed more people don't get killed from all that unguarded striking.
I tried to watch all of Hunter x Hunter recently. I actually made it to around episode 130 so nearly to the end, but the chimera ant arc absolutely broke me and I never finished it. Nothing kep happening over and over again and the lead ants were so terrible. I could still finish it but using the apps with commercials is so painful that I just don't feel like it.

Did you see Netero fight? Because I swear that thing makes the whole arc worth it, regardless.

Yes. I stopped a bunch of episodes after that one. I actually fully finished that arc and watched 1 or 2 episodes of the election arc. Honestly, I was so tired of the chimera ant arc that I actually skipped over the whole explanation for how they won. All of a sudden, things were happening and I realized I skipped the reason but just didn't care.
Pouf and Youpi's weird orgasm scenes were really unnecessary.

I really liked the chimera ant arc though it does drag in places.
Everything involving Netero in it is aces though.
I especially like when he’s all “you fucked up, ant” right before the dragon dive

latest Kaguya chapter
is a real sweet, mature and beautiful but inevitable roundhouse kick in the heart. you feel for both characters real hard. even rarer than a realistic break up is a realistic and sad but empathetic take on rejection that doesn't portray anyone as a villain, something that is sorely missing from a lot of teenage romance. this will be devastating in the Anime in a couple years.
"Grip 'em up, grip 'em, grip 'em good, said the Gryphon... to the pig."
Kaguya: Love is War is one of the best stories I have ever read, and considering that I never expected to write something like this about a romantic comedy, it should be saying something on how impressed I am with it.

Couldn't agree more. It was a sad chapter, but it also showed how much Tsubame cared for Yu, just not in a romantic way. She genuinely just wanted to be part of each others' lives as friends, but felt guilty knowing Yu liked her romantically, and how awkward that would make things.
I still think a season 3 of the anime culminating in Prez's "confession" to Kaguya during the school festival could be the greatest episode of a romcom ever.

Aka is definitely one of the most masterful writers I've read, in the sense of craftmanship. His balance of detail, foreshadowing, comedy, realistic drama, emotion, and genuinely relatable characters make me think I'm getting to know people, not reading a story about characters.
Yeah, I'd love to be a fly on the wall to know what was going on behind the scenes with the whole Hayasaka/Fujiwara sexual tension plotline suddenly like, disappearing
He was dropping hints for that pairing really early on, and then Stuff Happened, aaaand then suddenly they seem to have forgotten about each others existence?
I dunno, it's been a slow burn plotline so maybe he'll come back to it, but it feels a lot like some sorta editorial intervention killed it.
A trap is for fish: when you've got the fish, you can forget the trap. A snare is for rabbits: when you've got the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words are for meaning: when you've got the meaning, you can forget the words.
I really feel like it was just a joke about Hayasaka being jealous of Kaguya being in love, and wanting to feel something similiar, considering that Fujiwara gave 0 signs of being attracted to anyone in those 200 chapters, unless I am missing something.

Maybe so, it's pretty thin, I'm definitely not gonna insist on it or anything.
But there actually has been one person that Fujiwara has openly expressed attraction to... Hayasaka in drag posing as Kaguya's butler.

I've been watching "Keep Your Hands Off Eizouken!" and I love how awkward everybody looks and moves. Like real teenagers they're kinda in that in between phase where they're not cute little kids and they're not fully formed adults. They're like the human equivalent of those middle evolution Pokemon. They don't entirely seem to know how to pilot their still growing bodies. The whole thing has a sort of manic energy that you get in a lot of older Western animation without the wild Tex Avery takes, nor does it rely on the typical anime shorthand chibi reaction shots and sweat drops.
Also it might be appealing to me specifically by going into obsessive detail over the animation process. The first three episodes sure do mention peg bars a lot. They carry around reams of paper in those shipping envelopes. There's a lot of time spent explaining the technical process behind animation loops and timing. It captures what it's like to be a student animator perfectly.

Get destroyed by Chainsawman because she's his NUMBER #1 FAN, and that sounds like the perfect end to her.
She's probably crazy. I look forward to Saori Hayami playing her in the inevitable anime adaptation.

I couldn’t wait to see where Episode 4 took the story
And then I started it and it’s hours of Maria playing with stuffed animals and Ange flashbacks.
It’s really dragging.
Netero saves the day literally because he's kind of an asshole.
