My wife and I were talking about anime, and I mentioned Kill la Kill and she didn't recognize it just from the title, so I called it "that naked antifa anime" and she instantly knew which one it was.
Literally created because fascism sounds kinda like fashion

The funny thing is that fashion is literally used to facilitate class (and race) discrimination.
But, uh, that's not exactly the direction Kill La Kill goes.

I want to say someone at least directly says that at some point.
God I wish this kid from the boonies show would’ve done a portmanteau of two random words in its title like most of these shows do, because it’s funny and I want to recommend it but I don’t want to type that entire title ever.

having recently gone back and watched the original 3 gundam TV series, gundam's got a way lower hit rate for me than I expected given how much people talk about it.

This hand of mine is burning red! It’s loud cry tells me to defeat you!
Take this! My love, my hate, and all of my sorrow!

I find I enjoy Gundam more when I skip the episodes that drag.
I might miss some key development but I usually catch up quickly.

(Macross is way better)
I'm making my way (again) through the macross franchise! After going through 7, Frontier, and Delta, I am firmly on board with Frontier as the best one just because of the songs.

I don't think Cells at Work is a Netflix original?
The English side is 'simulcasting' a few days ahead of the Japanese broadcast. Or at least the first episodes were.
My problem with Cells at Work is that every episode is the same thing. There's always some super disaster that turns out to be sneezing, or a splinter, or a cough, or a cold, etc etc, with one token new character. There's a ton of room for them to do something like specific disaster or horror movie parodies, or change the disaster so that it actually represents the malady in some way, or structure it more like a procedural where they're figuring it out, or even just go full Osmosis Jones, but it's always pretty much generic apocalypse with random monster germ so the white blood cell can show up. Like you could pretty freely totally swap a shitload of the factoids explaining the illness of the week on a bunch of episodes, and everything would still make sense, which just makes so many of them feel exactly the same.
To be fair, it's meant to be an educational series, and "this is how illness X works" is going to be a solid part of that. That said, the second half of season 1 does move away from the monster of the week format, and Code Black focuses on more chronic illnesses (especially in the later parts.)
Kill la Kill was worth it just for Mako's uniform.
Also Gamagori constantly changing size from one scene to the next without anyone remarking on it at all
his size is 'larger than anyone else on screen at the time'

It's a universal truth that villain songs are always fantastic, but Blumenkranz in particular slaps unrelenting
First time I heard it I realised at some point that the lyrics are supposed to be German and not a made up language. Most words are pronounced wrong so it took me a second to figure that one out. It is a great song as long as I ignore that part.

Big same lol. Honestly there's a kind of charm to that too, but there are a couple of awesome covers by German speaking singers on YouTube that I go back to every so often.
So I've been watching Miss Kobayashi's Dragon Maid tonight and... it's actually really quite good?
Yeah it's pretty fuckin anime when it comes to a few things (those jiggle physics WHEW) but it's really delightfully wholesome, and thoughtful, and the dialogue is profoundly well written (and the dub is exceptionally well translated and localised!).

Dragon Maid is a very good anime pretty much 100% of the time Lucoa isn't on screen.

Yes, but how much bigger varies. In the flashback to when he met Satsuki he goes from abnormally large human sized to bigger than the literal building
it's fine

Full Armor Gundam is both incredibly rad and fucking TERRIFYING, and Io Fleming is probably my favorite character.

The Code Black depiction of an autoimmune disorder is...terrifying.
