Oh let me tell ya'll something else I learned about sink garbage disposals: the dish washer has a drain line run through it into the sink! Guess where that water goes without that drain line?

I learned about that literally today as well! My landlord sent someone by to replace my dishwasher, but it turned out the one they ordered was the wrong size so they had to abort the process and leave the old one there

Today I decide its time to wash some dishes (by hand, like a caveman) and then notice some water coming out from under the sink

it turns out that without that line there, water from the sink can also exit the drainage process early, leaving the way the dishwasher water was supposed to come in

oh wow did I not realize just how much I missed the ocean.

the point of this park is near the mouth of the harbour and while I’ve been here a half dozen times since I moved, today we walked along the shore trail and the weather was just perfect for a proper Ocean Mood - overcast, cool without being freezing, and windy enough to put a salt spray in the air and make some proper crashing waves, even sheltered as it was

I just kind of stood there, closed my eyes and took it all in for a few moments. It was easily the most at peace I’ve felt in a long time

    Pics, please!

Next time I'm there, today it was a bit dark and a bit wet for me to have my phone out

Ooh, a surprise left-field entry in the "Everyone else with my name is a moron who can't remember their own email address." I've been invited to an NGO leadership forum tomorrow, hosted in Malta! Apparently I'm a keynote speaker!

I've had some "I didn't sign up for this but it is legit" spam out of Malta before, which i suspect was related, and it's a very small island. If this person actually lives there, I will track them the fuck down and forcefeed them pastries until they learn to type.

I happened to check my email one evening and had a bunch of Hulu emails that indicated somebody had setup a new Hulu account using my email address.

Oh, it's the moron from Texas that fucks up her email all the time? Forgot password, change password, check account activity. Currently watching some Kardashians like show on an iphone. If I knew what the fuck her email address actually was I'd tell her to cut this shit out, but instead I signed out all devices then deleted the account (thanks California!).

WHY don't so many places do email verification?

In case anyone else wants to be a huge nerd like me, there is some potentially massive research going on about how severe covid (and long covid) may actually be caused by autoantibody responses - this is vital for developing new treatments and the research could potentially lead to a rethink of hundreds of diseases and their potential treatments

Well this is really interesting. I didn't know that autoantibodies were a thing, and I don't like that covid may trigger the production of them!

I don't really know much/haven't read up on other viruses so it's hard to compare covid to others, but this virus just sounds more and more nasty as we continue to learn more about it.

@Moriveth and I recently started daily yoga. We wanted something that we could do daily without much risk of injury and that wouldn’t require much space or equipment.

Now: I have NEVER been very flexible. Even as a skinny kid. Even when I was doing regular dance (tap). Even when I was regularly weight-lifting and doing regular stretches after each gym visit. Add to that I have proportionately long legs and short arms and I remember getting frustrated as a 7/8 year old because I was the only child in PE who couldn’t touch their toes.

I just touched my toes. Like, standing up and sitting and leaning forward. Even with all the additional weight I carry around my middle.

    That’s awesome Janson!

One thing I learned in college when I took yoga was that people can be differently flexible, I couldn’t touch my toes (or even come close) but could do stuff like put my leg behind my head and the like. So experiment a bit and you might find that you have non conventional flexibility!

Man the fucking conspiracy weirdos apparently have bank. I have an old side by side family shotgun at home and I wanted to go put some target shells through it to see if its still in working order. I'm thinking I might use it as a bird gun at some point since double barrels are super simple and reliable mechanisms. It should be fine even though it's probably 60 years old or so.

But hahaha NOPE. Every sporting good store here is absolutely wiped out of every kind of ammo and the gun shelves are tumbleweed barren. I asked the dude behind the counter what was up and he just said "crazies."

Like, these people are so goddamned frothing at the mouth insane they're buying up hunting rifles, shotguns, I think even black powder hunting rifles because they think "radical leftist socialist Democrat communist" Joe Biden is gonna take all their guns?

    Its Joe Biden.

Anyway I wish I had that kind of disposable income I could just drop grands on pointless bullshit.

Most gun owners are pretty deep into the "easily manipulated moron with too much money and too little common sense* demographic

The NRA has been scamming them for decades, the firearms industry has partnered with the new to just constantly fuel their paranoia that someone is going to take their guns at any minute for like 30 years

  • Options
    JuggernutJuggernut Registered User regular
The more I think on it the more I wonder if it isn't a Covid toilet paper situation.

The preppers start buying at the drop of a hat but I think this time it may have coincided with hunting season. A lot of the people I work with are avid hunters and they're constantly talking about not being able to get hunting caliber rounds. So the hunters saw the preppers thinning out the ammo and started stocking up as well and here we are.

That said. The only reason to panic buy guns is unfettered, chucklehead paranoia. On the plus side, in a year or two when these dingalings realized they spent two months pay on guns for no fucking reason again, the second hand market will probably be flooded. So if you're looking to get into hunting or target shooting that's probably a good time to pick up a decent, cheap long gun.

  • Options
    JuggernutJuggernut Registered User regular
Interestingly enough, the actual gun market is cratering I think. The NRA just filed for bankruptcy, at least.

I need to do some research but I remember something about how less Americans are owning guns but the ones that do own them are buying more and more and more. Mainly because yeah, they're nutjobs.

So despite hella gun numbers it's distributed over a much smaller market pool than it used to be.

Which is a good thing! A well made rifle or shotgun is something that can be passed down and enjoyed for generations if the family is inclined to outdoorsmanship. They can carry a lot of sentimentality. Several of the guns I own come from grandfathers and great grandfather's.

So, ultimately, having all these companies that cashed in on the post 93 ban, tacticool AR bullshit crash and burn might open the way back up for smaller, more bespoke companies that exclusively cater to the hunting and outdoors community. Might also air out some of the toxic bullshit.
