Double posting because I recalled my favorite music moment of the 90s
I was in the car with my mom who was very polite and set if to dc101 or maybe HFS, I can't recall. Probably HFS. anyway, Nirvana's cover of 'Lake of Fire' came on and as we listened, she looked so agitated. I knew good and well she hated it, but I asked what's wrong anyway
"I don't like this at all. You can tell he'd have such a nice voice, but he's just not trying"

Always enjoyed this track, and the opening chord progression shows up more or less verbatim (minus distortion) in a prog epic released less than a year after Ixnay hit (first shows up round 2:50):
Wu Tang made me love rap. I really do wonder how Wu is in Europe compared to other 90s acts.
In my (extremely white) area I only ever saw Wu hoodies in the mid 90s.
East-Coast lyricism, the Boom Bap, still my favorite.
I completely missed this one in the 90s, I only heard it a few years ago when a comics writer I like put it on the mood playlist for a scifi comic he was making.
This song is no less true for me today than when it was released. I could have a nicer car now, but then I would have car payments and higher insurance.
I mean Type O Negative is good. Sound like enough reason to me.

Up to this point, I've tried to post what I feel is the very best Canadian music of the 90s
but we had terrible novelty songs too. This wasn't a hit by any stretch of the imagination, but it was nominated for Best Video in the MuchMusic Video Awards, so some people apparently liked it?
Sometimes I feel like music is a huge bell curve. It sucked in the 40's and 50's. Began to rise in the 60's. Crested in the 70's and 80's. Then began its progressive decline into today.
Man I'm still really partial to Rusty Cage and Holy Water. Though I'm in the camp that Soundgarden did basically no wrongs, so there's some bias.
okay, i haven't caught up, I'm on page 2, but
i feel like Ty Cobb always flies under the radar https://youtu.be/6rs9UbqU5DU
if that's not a mandolin in this bluegrass/punk jam, i just dont know (it is)
actual edit: there were other winners on there, but my other favorite off that 1998 compilation was Cornershop - Good Ships https://youtu.be/CpdCsRi2RtA

One of the few Chris Cornell songs not about the sun, Jesus, or both.

I have extremely vivid memories of this song playing at the skating rink.

i was about fifteen - sixteen years old, and marilyn manson was desperately trying to convince this shitty teen that he was cool.

The 90's ain't terrible.
but I kind of hate the 80s music outside a few things here and there, like late 80s hip hop
