[SWTOR] Kira is best companion, y/y?

Sorry I can't put Vette there. She is great, but she's marred by the fanboyish and fetishistic way her romance is handled that made me feel 100% gross.

Kira doesn't have that problem, and she can also be romanced by ladies in the later chapters! Kira forever!

I don't have much SWTOR-related guides to put in this top post because everything has changed so much since my last op, sorry. But Vulk makes a lot of good guides if you need help:

Speaking of Vette, spoilery question (or at least, the answer may be):
When we first got to the imperial fleet, she asked me to remove her shock collar. I refused and shocked her for the lulz (look, my sith is a royal bitch).

Will she keep asking, and if so, what are the consequences (if any) if I just never take it off?

    Yes, she will.
I don't think it happens after the very first time, but as you become closer, it'll reach a point where you either remove the collar or get no more conversation out of her. Basically she'll have a "needs to talk" icon on her, and if you talk to her she'll ask for you to take off the collar, and if you say no the conversation ends and the "need to talk" indicator remains on her.

Trooper story almost done ... so close to the finish but of course the last chapter is always belsavis and Voss before Corelia . I fucking hate belsavis and Voss.

Someone posted the whole pass from the pts

It looks like I'm going to be doing some raiding again in the near future! A dude from my guild was looking for interested parties and I had already sent up the flag that I was looking for a group so he contacted me.

I've already spent a lot of (maybe unnecessary) time min-maxing gear stats for at least 1 tank, 1 dps, and 1 healer. Now, because of the possibility of nightmare mode ops again, I'm looking at the more granular stuff. Mainly: when tanking, should I have different sets for different bosses or is that overkill? I'm mainly thinking about things like how certain defensive amplifiers are better for specific ops. But I don't know what ops we'll be doing yet so this is probably overthinking it. Even so, I still wish there was an easy way for me to find out what the main damage type of each operation is. I already know that Dread Palace is mainly force damage, Gods from the Machine is mainly tech damage, and Dxun is mainly physical damage. But I don't know what all the ops do mainly and searches aren't really helping.

It is done all class stories completed. Going to take a break from the game to pay other stuff so I can feel fresh for when this pass comes out.

I still love this game, but man am I sick of stumbling across transphobes, homophobes and racists. Used to be I never knowingly interacted with any since I have General chat on silent. Here lately I've had to leave the gsf channel because they were denying institutionalized racism (why would you even be discussing it on that channel, ffs), and I've heard two un-funny gender jokes, one during a raid, one in the /Allies channel. CIS PEOPLE THOSE HELICOPTER JOKES WERE NEVER FUNNY, NOT EVEN ONCE.

One of the reasons I've been digging for a guild is so I can just find a good reason to shitcan General chat. Just... boy oh boy, if you were looking for a hive of scum and villainy that mad Mos Eisley look like the calmest Jedi sanctuary anywhere, you sure found one. Not to mention some of them are just plain bad, too- answered a guild ad and asked what they meant by "no filters" in the ad.

"Oh, it means you might hear some people make jokes that might make you mad."

So, "this place is chud central, stay away at all costs". Good to know you prefer having your friends make shitty jokes to new players.

Oh yeah I've been muting general for years now. Every new character I start off by removing general from my main chat window. But it used to be that the private channels like /gsf and /allies were just about starfighter and running raids, respectively. I didn't use to have to see arguments about how racism doesn't exist or there are only two genders in those channels. Because they had a specific purpose, if you wanted to talk about how Trump is your idol then you have general chat for that. I guess those channels have become too well known to be worth anything anymore. I do wish I knew what the secret "good" channels were, though.

    Welp. (spoiler below)
I did some reading ahead in the plot, wondering just how much longer it was going to be before I was finished with KotET, and yeah... the game's going to do something really, really dumb.

There comes a segment late in this expansion where you're getting into another battle in pursuit of the latest big bad, and well... it's going to essentially make you sacrifice a companion, for "story reasons". There are other situations in these expansions where you could possibly lose one, but... in the battle, you'll have to choose between losing Vette (Sith Warrior companion) or Torian (Bounty Hunter companion).

This really makes me angry when it comes to stuff like this- there's no way around it, you have to pick one to save and the big-bad snaps the neck of the other one.

You can get them back when all is said and done via the console in the bedroom, but they won't show up in story cutscenes any more and they'll be unselectable for story missions. But really? I mean, that kind of thing is just... it's face-palming stupid.

Why is it stupid? How is it functionally different than, say, Mass Effect where you have to choose between Ashley and Kaidan?

Honestly asking because I'll probably never get to that point (I still haven't completed all of the vanilla class stories despite playing the game on and off since launch).

also, might wanna put that behind a spoiler.
what's most dumb to me is that the game tries to play it up like you've never had to make this sort of choice before... which, depending on your class, can be very much not the case.

also, the practical result is that because either of them might be dead, neither of them show up from that point on except in the background. :(

finally, to me it's hardly a choice. even if you have affection for Torian, going out in battle is - as we see in his re-intro chapter - what Mandos live for; it's a "good" and honorable end for his character. Vette, not so much.

Honestly I wish I could hide companions from the list . The only useful purpose they serve is you can use them to teleport to that character when you are turning things in . I have Akaavi, Bowdaar , Corso , Gus ,HK , Risha and Treek all at level 50 and they are the only companions I’m interested in using . The rest just take up space and annoy me .

Note that it's useful to have up to 9 characters at level 50, because you can send up to 8 to do crafting stuff at once when you're at max level, and then you have one to accompany you in the field.

Got to the end of KotET... and now it doesn't have any missions for me, apparently. I still have the Doctor's mission I need to finish off, but even with that, I think I'm getting close to the end of new content. I think there's two things left for me in the mission computer of my ship- Ossus and the Ch. 4 interlude about the Dread Masters.

Sacrificed Torian, in the end- I just have more fun with Vette, and honestly, it does make storyline sense a Mando would go out like that. The final fight against Vaylin in my mind was a cast-iron you-know-what, and I had to look up how to beat her because nowhere does it say you ought to lure her into the heal mobs.

I figure I might finally go and start another alt, and maybe start chipping away at training up a crafter, now that I have the ultimate gatherer all set up now... and of course, I don't know which one to go pick first.

Biochem should be the crafting you focus on first.

Also check the terminal on your ship for folllow-up story missions.

Okay, checking missions... I have Fractured Alliances, a Chapter 4 Interlude on Oricon, and Ossus.

What I'd do is finish up the Interlude first, then FA, then Ossus- if that's how it goes story-wise?

It is, though Oricon is IMO very optional. It's a side story and, to repeat myself from last thread, mostly about ooooo scary Sith.

  • CambiataCambiata Commander Shepard The likes of which even GAWD has never seenRegistered User regular
The main reason you would do Oricon is if you're planning to do ops like Dread Fortess or Dread Palace. I know you have to at least do the opening mission for Oricon to do the ops, but I'm not sure if you have to do the whole story path.

It looks daunting, but when you remove the optional stuff, you're left with
    1. Class story (planetary stories optional)
    2. Ilum
    3. Makeb
    4. Forged alliances
    5. Shadow of Revan (incl. Ziost)
    6. KotFE (star fortress optional)
    7. KotET
    8. Iokath
    9. Conspiracy
    10. Ossus
    11. Onslaught

Which is still a lot, but less ridiculous.

In any case, non-story (and all older story) FPs are effectively side quests. FPs starting with Forged Alliances are actually part of the main story.

Does anyone else have issues where companions randomly just... stop doing anything? Seems to keep happening to me lately, especially Vette. She'll just stand there and do nothing no matter what's going on. Great fun when doing a heroic and she decides to stop healing me right as I'm fighting a small horde of critters. Is this revenge for the shock collar thing?

Corso has gone blank a couple times, too.

Sometimes I can "reset" them by switching their roles, or by giving an attack command, but sometimes that doesn't work either.

Some heroics seem to have these odd thresholds that companions won't cross (and so they won't heal your on the other side of that threshold). My usual fix when I know there's one of those thresholds is to just dismiss then recall my companion.

Generally companions don't like jumping off cliffs (even small ones) but they also sometimes just don't like crossing doors - it's somewhat random.

Yeah, I've seen those weird thresholds (there's one in the Esseles flashpoint that vexes me), but this is Vette or Corso standing right next to me and following just fine but never actually doing anything. I dunno, probably just some bad luck. But annoying.
