It's also never established how long is in between Metroids 1 and 2.
I imagine it took various parties a long time to establish that, no, y'know what, the best thing to do is to exterminate all Metroids everywhere.
EDIT: I also imagine them looking at Samus' track record in Metroids 1-Prime 3, and come to the realization that Samus, who leaves shattered stellar bodies in her wake, would be perfect for the job.

The ending of the first game makes it clear that a significant amount of time was spent in prayer.
I treat the Metroid timeline like the Zelda timeline. Sure you can fit them together, but it kinda works better if you don't.
Prime is a different timeline forked after Zero Mission
Other M is a different timeline forked after Super
Federation Force is... a different IP
Absolutely! Metroid canon for me is a buffet where I just take the parts of the story that intrigue me and disregard all the other details. I still think of Samus as a weirdly proportioned alien inside that suit, and I've never heard of this Adam guy people keep talking about
Didn't they have to retcon the Metroid Prime into not being a Metroid since they were like "It lives behind an impenatrable barrier" which begs the question of "How did a Metroid get behind the barrier, especially one that had been experimented on by Space Pirates."
"For you, the day Samus blew up your planet was the most important day of your life. But for her... it was Tuesday."

I miss the old Nintendo Power strips where Samus would take naps in morph ball form and obsessed over fellow round things. While played for laughs, when you look past the sci-fi trappings, a towering peak-athlete with zen for being curled up comfortably and love for all things round is a mundane kind of charming weirdness.
Finally got around to watching the rest of the Treehouse footage (work has been killing my free time). A few thoughts:
-I'm not crazy about the Dread suit but it's a hell of a lot better than the Fusion suit. It looks more robotic again, which is a big improvement. My only real problem is with the color scheme. I imagine that'll change as upgrades are acquired.
-They seem to have addressed one of my biggest criticisms of Samus Returns. I didn't like how melee counters would bring you to a complete stop. It broke the flow of the gameplay. Hopefully the melee dash will work out better.
-I wonder if the Project Dread reference in Prime 3 will factor in to the story or if they'll disregard it.
-Think about this for a second, this is the first time a Metroid game is in HD. It's crazy it took so damn long!
-After this, I really want them to re-release Samus Returns. I loved how that game looked in 3D but it would be amazing if updated with visuals similar to Dread.

The retcon was the Space Pirate experimentation. The Japanese and EU release of the game have it that the Metroid Prime is a Metroid that was at the epicenter of the meteor impact, grew ridiculously powerful due to the mutations, and was sealed off in the Impact Crater when the Chozo did their thing. The USA release added this stuff about the space pirates experimenting on the thing and adding weapons and barriers to it. Which makes very little sense, since they only got here relatively recently, and would've had to get past the barrier to reach the Metroid Prime. At which point, why are they trying to find the artifacts and get past the barrier, if they already have done?

It's likely a special extra tank, like the Aeon Reserve tank granted by the Samus Amiibo in Samus Returns. It had no impact on completion % there, and I expect the same again.
I'm a bit on the fence about Samus' Dread suit. It looks pretty spiffy except that the orange bits clash with the rest of the color scheme.
Where are you seeing orange? The helmet and breastplate are scarlet red, the body and limbs are a mix of white and cyan, the arm cannon is such a dark green that it's almost black, the suit lights & visor are bright green while the cannon lights are kind of lemon-lime colored.

With large parts of the Power Suit(?) now white and a modern 3D engine, it seemed like lighting tints the suit more heavily than before. Example: the harsh orange light in save rooms can make it look pale orange.
The only other time Samus wore white was Prime 2's Light Suit, and I don't recall that game's lighting being advanced enough to create such an illusion.

Well, that's what I'm curious about. In addition to your suggestion, there were two other possibilites I could think of:
The helmet and breastplate are traditionally a more pure red, here they're leaning a smidge more towards orange, hence why I called them scarlet. For example, the box art for Samus Returns has a hue of ~3 in MS Paint, while the picture I posted above is ~6, and Paint's default orange is 20. I was wondering if maybe ED saw that as orange?
Alternatively, maybe they saw a shot where Samus has a suit upgrade that changes the color of some bits. If so, I'd like to see it too.
Edit: Ah, there you go. Didn't see your edit before I replied. Thanks for finding that screenshot.
It’s nice seeing the “best seller” ribbon on a Metroid game. Hopefully it proves to be in the long term. I know it won’t get close to Mario or Zelda numbers but dammit, Metroid deserves better.
Eh I could see Link's Awakening (5 mil) being in the realm of possibility. That heavy cinematic marketing will likely get quite quite a few random Switch owners interested in this game.
Sakamoto is saying this is the end of the 1-5 arc, he won't be able to resist adding some form of Ridley to close everything out.

I like the 'Dread Suit' better than the 'Fusion Suit', but I'm not wild about it. It might grow on me, however. I do like that the pauldrons are still big, but toned down from the peak they hit in Samus Returns. IIRC MP3's suit shoulders were also a little more restrained compared to the more standard look.
The main thing I don't like is something I never cared for about Samus' previous power armor designs: the arm cannon being a different color from any other part of the suit. I don't know why, but it always seemed off to me.

Turns out I'm red-orange colorblind.
The scarlet part, then. It clashes with everything else.

Nah, the lighting definitely shifts it a bit in that shot, scarlet it ain't. Plus the association of Samus with orange...

@[Expletive_deleted] Huh, interesting. After IceBurner posted that other screenshot, I was sure my initial guess about what you meant had been off.
Agree to disagree, I actually like the contrast of the scarlet & cyan. I'm not a fan of the glossy white parts as much, even though I like the overall color combo, because it makes me think of that 00's period where everything future was like an original iPod or the androids in that Will Smith "I, Robot" movie. I think I would have preferred those parts to be silver, as a counter to the use of gold on her previous suits.
I assumed that red part of the armor is there because it's the only part of her original armor that they didn't surgically remove while she was infected by the X parasite. The fibrous-looking turquoise parts are likely the remnants of the Fusion suit and the rest of the turquoise armor is stuff that got put on afterwards. Dunno why the base armor turned to white, though.

This is "what color is the dress" thing all over again.
It's orange. Nuh-uh, scarlet. Are you blind, muted red. Crimson! Vermillion! Claret! Reddish-yellow! Yellowish-red!
To be honest, when I described the bits as "orange", I thought it was pretty clear what part I was talking about, even if you saw a different shade on the red-to-yellow spectrum than I did, but clearly not. 🙄
The Dread Suit looks like they kinda gave Samus a butt this time. There's just a little more junk in that trunk.
My thought practically mid-first-trailer-viewing was that they feminized the suit a little more...bigger butt, less bulk around the neck, high heels...and it's Sakamoto back to his Other M tricks.
The new suit is cool. The only thing that bothers me is the helmet. It looks fine in the render, but in some of the in-game cutscenes it looks too small, or the neck is too long for an actual person to be wearing it.
The organic-esque wrappings look way better than in the fusion suit. I don't mind her having apparent heels, since they're boot heels not the ridiculous wedge heels her zero suit has.
I'm a little surprised the Dread Suit wasn't a return to orange (like the final upgrade of the Fusion Suit), but I guess we'll learn about it's "loooore" reasons later. Probably the second or third upgrades for it will change it to Orange/Yellow I'd guess.

it is the MOST canon game in the entire series, the other games are the questionable ones
