[Canadian Politics Thread] Government-running Cons accused of running cons in government

RichyRichy Registered User regular
edited October 2023 in Debate and/or Discourse
This thread is to discuss poutine, which is the perfect union of french fries, cheese curds, and gravy, along with a selection of toppings of your choice ranging from sliced hot-dog sausages to foie gras.

Oh and I think we just had an election or something, I dunno. Looking at the map it doesn't seem like anything happened.

Most of that is a lie: topping on poutine are like pineapple on pizza, and the makeup of the House did not change since 2019, so we clearly didn't have an election during a pandemic because someone saw the polling in August and then manage to fail at running an electoral campaign.

The only true thing is that poutine is as excellent as it is unhealthy.

Well done to Elections Canada for a well executed national test run exercise for when we have a future election.

By which you must certainly mean its excellent. Almost as good as Thanksgiving Pizza

I will take chicken poutine with me to the grave. And donair poutine. Stuffing poutine. Bacon poutine. Heck the other day I got fish and chips with poutine and I stuck that battered tasty fish right in there. Unlimited power!

Food mild take: pineapple on a pizza is good (especially with hot peppers), and toppings on poutine are fiiiiine but entirely unnecessary.

Food hot take: pickles on a pizza are secretly really good. (Just don't put too large slices, as they'll retain a lot of heat.)

Pineapple is the perfect topping to mix with jalepeno.

The unofficial rule that all Montreal restaurants must have at least one poutine dish on their menu has led to Butter chicken poutine.
It shouldn't work, but it does.

Like I said in the discord, not even the most pointless election in North America this week. The California recall election was even more meaningless. But still, this did all seem like a pretty big waste of time.

I disagree. California at least served as a preview of the 2022 midterm election, with the DNC running on their life-saving good handling of the pandemic and the RNC calling fraud before the votes were even cast.

My partner does pickles on pizza. Four cheese pizza with sliced dill pickles. She puts the pickles on after its cooked though.

    It is in fact excellent.

Hmm, in all seriousness, looking at that map I did notice that unlike some other countries, Canada gives its non-constitutionally incorporated territories populated mostly by non-whites actual representation in its government. Good for them.

Hmm, in all seriousness, looking at that map I did notice that unlike some other countries, Canada gives its non-constitutionally incorporated territories populated mostly by non-whites actual representation in its government. Good for them.
Representation is set in the Constitution as per the size of the House of Commons, and was continuously updated over the years as new provinces were added, until the Fair Representation Act, 2011, which amended the constitution to recalculate the total seats as per each decennial Census.

The specific representation of the territories was amended into the constitution in 1975, and then changed again when Nunavut was added in 1999:
Yukon Territory, Northwest Territories and Nunavut

    (2) The Yukon Territory as bounded and described in the schedule to chapter Y-2 of the Revised Statutes of Canada, 1985, shall be entitled to one member, the Northwest Territories as bounded and described in section 2 of chapter N-27 of the Revised Statutes of Canada, 1985, as amended by section 77 of chapter 28 of the Statutes of Canada, 1993, shall be entitled to one member, and Nunavut as bounded and described in section 3 of chapter 28 of the Statutes of Canada, 1993, shall be entitled to one member.End note(28)

I was sent to Quebec for work half a decade or so back, and on my last night I asked the hotel clerk where I could find the best poutine in the area. They sent me to a bar a few blocks away, where I had poutine with Montreal smoked meat and pickles in it.

It was incredible. Shaved a few months off my life expectancy with that dish, and probably another one or two hanging out drinking and chatting with the bartenders and waitstaff.

Well since the election was a whole nothing burger lets focus on what really matters.. the UCP sucking hot donkey balls.

    https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmonton/shandro-kenney-health-minister-alberta-cabinet-shuffle-1.6184167

Today's news is Minister of Health Tyler "Yelling at you from your driveway" Shandro has been shuffled out of his position and into the labour and immigration portfolio meanwhile Jason Copping who had the labour and immigration spot is now Minister of Health. Will also be a press conference at 5pm starring our glorious leader Jason "open for summer" Kenney and Dr Dina "what I have gotten myself into" Hinshaw to likely give some bullshit response that throws Shandro under the bus and absolves Kenney of any culpability.

Am I missing something regarding the "cost" of an election? Where do you think the money went? Is it not still in our economy? It's not like we bought something useless from a foreign manufacturer. We paid Canadians to run our democratic process.

    Oooo. New thread.

    1) Pineapple on pizza totally works....IF you pair it with something spicy to balance the sweet. Otherwise GTFO.

    2) So the only thing that changed for the better for me in this Election is that Aurora-Oak Ridges-Richmond Hill flipped from Blue to Red, ousting the floor-crossing Leona Alleslev. Otherwise it was all decidedly meh.

    3) I learned yesterday that Doug Ford shills for Tim Hortons from time to time? What? (Edit: Yes, its for charity...but still. Its weird.) https://www.blogto.com/eat_drink/2021/09/doug-ford-tim-hortons-smile-cookies/

Pineapple on pizza is actually a Canadian invention. So it is apropos to this thread at the very least.

Also, proof of vaccination is rolling out in NB today and I am already anticipating seeing many grown adults having meltdowns in front of stores.

I went out last Saturday and we decided to take a walk down a nice pedestrian street lined with restaurants. When we got there there were a few police cars, which I thought was odd... as we walked we found a mass of people, and it turns out there was an anti-mask/vaccine/passport protest going on. Dumb people, but on the flip side they weren't being loud or obnoxious or anything, they were just sitting there, flanked by cops on all sides, wasting space and oxygen. At least they were in a public pedestrian street and not in front of a school or hospital.

    So yeah, that's my story.
