Why would you replace Starsiege with Mechwarrior 2? Why not replace a different, inferior, non-mech game? We will never have a hostile mech takeover of the entire list at this rate.
Also did you mean MechWarrior 2: 31st Century Combat or MechWarrior 2: Mercenaries Mr Sparkles?
When I posted it last night, I was thinking 31st Century Combat. It's been a decade since I played it and I can still recite the clan wolf intro speech from memory.
I bow to the will of the council though. Mercenaries was the better game.
i've already gone in on one "remove kojima from a kojima series*" game so i might as well do the big one too
remove Devil May Cry V
add Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance
I think this is a pretty easy comparison to make, right? They're both fun, high-intensity stylish action games that are gameplay successors to the earlier devil may crys, with stories that try to balance goofiness and more serious new character arcs for the series' respective secondary protagonists (feat. white hair, future tech prosthetic limbs, identity crises, wives no longer allowed onscreen).
And like I'm not gonna say DMCV is bad but god. Remember Rising Revengeance's boss fights (and boss fight themes, an integral part of those)? Remember that shit? DMCV finishes with a very strong bossfight for sure, but like, the comparison. MGR:R starts with the Rules of Nature fight and gets wilder from there. It's like minute three
additionally, as character action gimmicks go "CUT THEM IN HALF CUT THEM IN HALF CUT THEM CUT THEM CUT THEM" is more fun and characterful than Nero's steamer trunk full of arms. That's just how it is.

* so fun fact, I forgot it when I was posting about Zone of the Enders earlier, but Fist of Mars literally ends with a "Revolver Ocelot calls...Mr. President" style conversation. what a game.
So how do we feel about Tie Fighter as opposed to say, X-Wing vs Tie Fighter?
There's generally a foot in both camps when it comes up. I personally never had the crew to get anything out of Vs., so it's always been a big fat goose egg for me.
Tie Fighter, on the other hand, was a well crafted and fun experience, and one of the first games to really explore the motivations of the 'bad' guys from a kind of positive perspective, which I liked.
It literally changed my opinion on the role of the empire in my favourite movie series, enriching my experience of the media, which is a pretty decent achievement.
But I also wouldn't have thrown it out so early if I didn't think it deserved to be at least debated.
@WeedLordVegeta should suddenly flip the script on about page 75 and announce that placement on the list will be based on a game's number of appearances/votes in the thread to the present moment, throwing out the current list and causing a mad scramble/reassessment

Laser Squad Nemesis, on the other hand, is inferior to UFO/X-com, and Tactics Ogre is also on the list as a turn-based tactics game, so I can't fault you there.

I am not going to just remove it, but is there any reason why Katamari Damacy is on there instead of Katamari Damacy 2 (We Love Katamari)?
it's objectively the better game, but I can see an argument for the splash the original Katamari made counting for more; I'm just not sure if that beats the gameplay improvements of the sequel
I'm with you on this, but I don't think as many people played We . The original is the one with all the name recognition
But if you wanted to do the cut I would support it
oh for quality of life improvements and level creativity we love katamari is absolutely the better game, but there was something just so magical and all encompassing about being a young teen and my older brother bringing home and booting up a game i had never heard of, and it being such a standout delight unlike anything i'd ever experienced, that it couldn't not be the one i nominated for the list
i do think that the original's OST handily has the edge over the sequel, and while we love katamari's backstory cutscenes are a lot of fun there's something to be said for the hoshino family storyline and how we get another perspective as you tear through the levels (and "oh! i feel it. i feel the cosmos" is an all-timer)
we love katamari offers plenty to make a case for itself though, i'm willing to meet people in the middle and spring for Katamari Forever
I thought Katamari sucked and was boring. But there was a solid like three month period where everyone on my dorm floor was playing it nonstop. I feel it belongs even though it was and is not for me
My favorite and imo the most representative of the series in MH Generations Ultimate, but no way in hell does a pre World Monster Hunter game have a chance of surviving on this list.
I'm curious what folks thoughts are for the vanias, re: Super Metroid and Castlevania
firstly the notion that Lords of Shadow belongs on any all-time best list is ludicrous, let alone over any of the Igavanias
Correct, so I'm putting my pet Igavania on here, much as I liked what Lords of Shadow was trying to do at the time. Cut me, ye bastids!
