I tried watching GoldenEye with my parents over christmas holidays, because it was on. I had to leave the room. It is very painful to watch.
It's terrible. It hasn't aged badly, that's not really a thing, it was always like this.
I was a kid when I saw it last, what's your excuse?
You're still a kid.
And wrong about Goldeneye
the entire sequence with Q is so wooden and stiff that you'd think you were watching one of those things where they've removed the laugh track to make it sound awkward

it's not good cheese, it's just bad
Oh, grow up 007!
and I wonder about my neighbors even though I don't have them
but they're listening to every word I say
have any of you defenders actually watched it recently
Like 5 years ago maybe?
Still lots of fun, Brosnan is still great, tank chase remains a classic. A bit short imo. It could have used an extra bit to really have Bond and Bean face-off more before the end sequence.
It's also interesting in that it's made by the guy who did Casino Royale and really feels like it wants to be that kind of reinterpretation of the character but it can't quite escape the cheese.

Oh hey, speaking of the JWST, looks like they've started the process of unfolding the left wing! Woo!

The bolded is interesting - I wonder what action films killed cheese for the genre. The Bourne movies?

The Bourne movies (or the first three, anyways) are great and the first one still has some old-time charm to it

Personally I think we left the cheese of the 70s and 80s when technology actually started catching up to and replacing all the goofy spy gadgets.

Bourne probably, Mission Impossible has also worked itself into a pretty great action movie franchise. From 3 on there really isn’t a bad MI movie.

The MI movies are like the F&F movies where they started off in one direction and then just went batshit as they continued, and I love it.
are YOU on the beer list?

I have basically zero interest in bond
by the time I was old enough to be cognisant of movies, there was already like 17 of them and they all felt the exact same

A Reddit user on building an endgame wand in Noita:
User guide: The user can effortlessly scale the level to which everything in that general direction is fucked by simply adjusting the length of time between the first and second click. Effects range from "fuck that bit over there" through "yes and the framerate too" to "Noita.exe has stopped responding"

I'm guessing the dividing like was 9/11 when spies / intelligence stopped being a kinda fun gentlemen's game where the stakes were big but not really anything real and instead became smaller scale but something to actually be afraid of and people started taking it as a serious scary threat not something goofy.
I'm thinking the late-90's movies - Brosnan Bonds, Long Kiss, Broken Arrow, Peacekeeper, etc were the last of the movies that really felt like they had any 'fun' with terrorism.

I mean, the eponymous satellite was essentially a giant EMP, if memory serves.. I'm sure the JWST can be used like that, right?

About a month ago. Good movie!

honestly it kind of looks like the austin powers parody of a bond villain secret laser
the design is a bit over the top for the death ray satellite
Meanwhile the actual Goldeneye prop from the movie looks like something from Kerbal with the graphics turned down.

Yes. Within the last two years. Goldeneye rules.
Quantum of Solace sucks.
