SSSS is winding down and it makes me sad. It's an interesting premise and world, but I don't think the author is going to touch it again after she's done.

The author of SSSS underwent character undevelopment and only bad things were possible after that point.

For those not in the loop, could you elaborate?

They wrote a very long comic about how those who believe in Jesus will soon be persecuted by some combination of (stand-in for) Facebook and the government, so the best thing to do is destroy your phone and... live in the woods? It's an extremely strange bit of work. Then their messaging on their site went full bananas as well.

They were dealing with bad social anxiety before an actual pandemic came along and basically undid any progress they might have been making in that regard.
And then, apparently, they fell in with some Christian sect that promised belonging and purpose and community and all the usual stuff that lonely, needy people glom onto like drowning victims.
    It's genuinely sad, IMO.

did it happen after the pandemic started? I can't remember if it was after or before. Regardless it probably went down like that either way.

Damn. That comic was really good, and had a lot of cool pagan imagery and spiritualism. I always meant to get back to it at some point

it's kinda sad that instagram embeds format so much better and load so much faster than twitter embeds

Is that why it's been happening on the forums?

really it's just a function of twitter embeds being incredibly slow, they're both several times larger (in byte payload) than any other embed, and they transfer slowly since twitter throttles and parcels their sizes, so after 5-10 seconds of scrolling, the embed will finally load, expanding its size and changing where your scroll bar is indexed relative to the page height

this is a miserable user experience and something google has advised against for years, but twitter don't give a fuck

like that's ~500kB per embed and it's never cached

to show you a jpeg and at most 280 characters of text

    moFfXj9m.jpg
the jpeg, compressed and sized correctly, is 28kB

it's largely why I gave up on using tweets for the PC games thread, posting a full OP with 15-20 embeds resulted in ~20MB page payloads that would fuck up load times for 60-90 seconds as you'd scroll and have text jump up and down as twitter slowly populated each embed

like it re-transfers the exact same embed resources every single time, regardless of whether you have them cached

The constantly Unsounded disrespect will not be forgiven.

Do you mean people here disrespecting Unsounded, or characters being disrespected in the comic proper?

I do like that Twitter now just stops me from scrolling when I'm looking at a person's page on my phone because it's like hey you've got a great point this isn't helping me or anyone I'll start reading a book.

    We're all in this together

I have twitter blocked using NoScript and only unlock it whenever I see like a gazillion awesomes on someones post. Definitely cuts down on wasting my mobile data on Twitter's bullshit.
