Recommendations for a good starting class? I went with veteran to just learn the basics but it’s feeling very vanilla. I know the balance was way off a while ago so don’t want to lock myself into something terrible (assuming the new class overhaul fixes some of it, but figured I’d ask if anyone has any strong feelings)
Psyker is a fun glass cannon with lots of management.
Fanatic, tbh, I tend to play it like a Veteran so it's not that unique in my own (suboptimal) experience. But I love the flame thrower.
Ogryn is probably the most unique, though not everyone's cup of tea.
Caveat: balance is irrelevant at the difficulty I play at. No one's getting sweaty.

vet is pretty vanilla but the core mechanics are fun enough (and you get enough flexibility now) you can make a fast sneaky stabby vet or a shooty vet or whatever so it's fairly broad
the balance rn is such that you can hard carry with all classes so nothing is really unusable
I don’t know if I just had a lucky streak, but I was breezing through missions with a support veteran build just focusing on reducing damage and buffing teammates, then switched to psyker and faceplanted two missions in a row. The single target head popping seems too slow to be useful for most things and otherwise just super squishy. I see other people using some kind of homing aoe missiles which seems way better but I guess I gotta find some decent groups to carry me until I can be more cannon and less glass
lmao this capstone with Brain Rupture - it procs ALL the time. Just murder some trash for a couple seconds and then end this boss' entire career.
Edit: Though honestly I think it may be the weakest of the three capstones, after playing around with it. Warp Charge/Disrupt Destiny provide overall improvements and with Kinetic Resonance I can just machine gun out ruptures anyway when I need to, while Psionics is four talent points for three attacks. Unless you're doing spastic amounts of weapon switching I don't think it's very good.
Edit2: No, Disrupt Destiny is somehow even worse. The activation rate is extremely low(1-2 enemies per wave), and it only gives you a charge when you kill the marked enemy - if your allies kill it, you don't get anything. Christ, Fatshark.
I specifically set up my PSYKER to not use BB because it's just an obvious choice with the way the skill tree is laid out (I will say the +Crit Chance nodes seem to be away from the BB-Blitz so at least there's that). In terms of single target though, the middle passive just feels all around better (I did dip in some of the left and rights passives leading to the capstone though - the one for 30% faster Quell is just dumb).
That said, dunno if it is the skill trees or previous patches but survivability is leagues ahead of where it was when I played last December. Like not even close. Hell it takes a bit of intentional warping to even explode now (no more "Sorry, your warp took you over 100 - time to explode").
. . .game still runs like dogshit so hopefully this rumored patch is coming soon.

Well my plan for today was to see how the changes handle, but I can't even make the to the mourningstar, shit be crashing with out of memory errors all over the place. Verifying files appears to have actively made the issue worse, before I could at least get to operative selection, now it's crashing even quicker. Trying a driver update, we'll see if that fixes things.

I am coming around to Assail though, it's amazing at clearing out packs of specialists. Their only weaknesses are Maulers and Carapace Ogryns, but those usually aren't a huge deal.

I suppose as an update, driver update did let me play again. Spent some time pondering Vet and Ogryn trees, did a few rounds as vet. Plasgun felt more consistently able to oneshot specials, either my talent picks included damage boosts that pushed me over the threshhold or my snap headshot game was on point. Or possibly just plasgun got buffs at some point.

So this Zealot ability is broken and is probably staring down the barrel of a nerf. In addition to what it says in the tooltip, with the sub-talent it also stuns everything in its radius, including monstrosities. I just had a game where a Plague Ogryn was completely locked down by two Zealots staggering abilities until it was killed by the rest of the group.
I still need to try zealot, but so far I’m liking ogryn best. Charging through groups and just heavy melee-ing everything is pretty fun and being tanky enough to pick up all my squishy allies is very nice. I was probably averaging a 40% success rate on missions on psyker, while ogryn I’m at 90%+ and the only time we failed was when I managed to get downed first and my teammates failed to get me up.

it'll also knock them off ledges, make mutants drop people, etc
I'm not sure of the specifics but i feel there has to be some psyker build that totally breaks the class in this update. I've played damnation games w/ three different psykers now who use that magic missile ability whatever it is to delete *everything* Hordes, specials, even fucking monstrosities? they nuke them all out of existence before the other three people on the team can even damage anything, we're just there to pick them up if a pox hound or trapper manages to surprise them.

Empowered Psionics procs off of all kills, including kills from Assail itself. Add on a sub-talent that guarantees a proc on elite kills it's basically self-feeding. It's gonna get nerfed for sure since Psykers nearly no longer need weapons with this build.

Still haven't actually taken any of the other classes into a mission yet, just been noodling about on Vet.
Support build, took the shouty active, the stand up a downed guy modifier, as much toughness restoration as I could find in the talent tree, plus the talent to give 15% of my toughness restoration to allies in coherence. Frags and the ammo on specialist kill aura.
Takedown build. Kraks, all the grenade boosts, and the stealth active.
Plain Jane shootmans, basically a pre-rework build.

The above implies I eventually get to stop hitting things with a shovel. I did not want to play shovelman. Do I eventually get to play as a ranged class like it said on the tin?

Oh you still use plenty of melee, ammo is not nearly plentiful enough to just go ham on it, even with the deep ammo pool some of the weapons have

I think this may explain why everyone I've grouped with is a psyker or an ogryn.
its also very weapon dependent
if u grab a lasgun like a XII u will have lots of ammo. If u get a lucius 3 with surgical and run the "lasgun crits cost no ammo" u will have quite literally infinite ammo (i have respawned mid map on yellow ammo and finished on full ammo purely from passive regen)
otherwise headhunters have pretty comfy ammo pools; revolvers/shotguns/infantry autoguns are dire for ammo rn. plasma and bolter too

Well, I'll assume this is also a levels/talents thing. Early levels (like... 8?) it's mostly shovel city, except sometimes I get to break out the mark XII, for a treat.

Today I learned that the plasgun does have a Gets Hot! interaction that results in you exploding. It took me this long to discover because it requires using charged shots, regular shots just vent a bit if you try firing at 100%

Warframe/Steam: NFyt
Does the infinite ammo crit thing mean that you don't need to reload, or that you still need to reload but you don't run out?
You have 90 rounds in your Lucius Mk III Helbore Lasgun you fire a charged shot that would normally drain 9 rounds from the battery but its a crit shot so you stay at 90 rounds even if you miss. The Surgical blessing will give a 10% crit buff while aiming down sight the longer you aim the more stacks you will get up to 10 stacks so as long as you always get enough stacks to get 100% crit rate you will never have to reload or only be reloading when there isn't anything to shoot anyway.

Been playing this again after the new update. Uprising was becoming way too easy, so I switched to Malice, but not sure if quickplay was adding high intensity modifiers... but Malice seemed much harder than I remember? Haven't succeeded on a mission yet with randos.

Quickplay won't add modifiers in and of itself, but it might random you into a mission with a modifier.

i'm finding overall the game is easier on this update, at least on heresy/damnation. *but* there's a huge influx of people who don't know wtf they're doing which is making me fail more missions than before when they were actually easier. I'm actually enjoying this as it's adding some variety.
Also i have every class at 30 except veteran, which is currently @ 23 and i'm trying to level it and.. i dunno what it is about veteran but even after this update i find all their skills and gameplay just...lacking compared to other classes fun wise. It's like i'm eating mashed potatoes when I could be eating a wagyu steak. It's not bad, but....
I like that you can just craft stuff with whatever modifiers you want. Once I realized that the weekly missions are per character, I’ve been getting one of each class leveled up. As soon as I hit lvl 8, I just craft a purple curio with +10% xp and then some other useful stat. When I hit 16, repeat. It’s a little weird that currency is shared across characters but not items, but whatever.
Anyways, I’m enjoying this a lot so I wanted to throw some cash to fatshark. Ended up just buying the game; with the game pass discount and Xbox getting 9300 aquila included it feels like a good deal and now all my dudes got their drip.
I'm coming around to Alice(the cash shop vendor) now that they've been giving her more involvement in the dialogue. She's so inflammatory and unafraid of telling off the rest of the leadership, I love it.

Last night I played a few rounds with a couple of buddies of mine. On our last run we ended up getting ambushed by a Plague Ogryn on a bridge. It knocks one of my friends off so he’s hanging onto the edge and as I go to help him, it yeets the other two off so far that it’s an instant KO. They all think the run is over, but I know I have the Emperor on my side. I proceed to take out my relic and pulse stagger a nearly full health Plague Ogryn off the edge of the bridge into the abyss.

I've noticed that games seem a lot easier. Is that power creep or has the player base improved in the year since launch?
