[Warhammer 40K: Darktide] Chaos Is A Ladder
Zavianuniversal peace sounds better than forever warRegistered Userregular
PLATFORMS: Microsoft Windows (Steam, Gamepass): 30 November 2022
Xbox Series X/S: TBA
Take back the city of Tertium from hordes of bloodthirsty foes in this intense and brutal action shooter. Warhammer 40,000: Darktide is the new co-op focused experience from the award-winning team behind the Vermintide series.
In the depths of the hive, the seeds of corruption threaten to turn into an overwhelming tide of darkness. A mysterious and sinister new force is seeking to take control of the entire city. It is up to you and your allies in the Inquisition to root out the enemy before the city succumbs to Chaos.
As Tertium falls, Rejects Will Rise.
Create your own, unique character and customize their physical appearance, voice, and origin. Choose your class to determine which unique traits and skill sets they will make use of in battle. Will you be a seasoned veteran of the Imperial army, a snarky outsider, or a fiery zealot? The choice is yours.
Built on the legacy of Vermintide 2’s best-in-class melee combat, Warhammer 40,000: Darktide introduces intense WH40K gunplay to the mix. Master the balance between ranged and melee combat as you fight through a slew of enemies. Feel the impact of each swipe, swing, and slice of a chainsword, or fry some flesh with a lasgun.
Step into the violent, dystopian world of Warhammer 40,000. From boiling hot industrial factories to the decaying water maintenance zone afflicted by constant acid rainfall - Tertium Hive is a hard and unforgiving place even at the best of times. Your role is to serve the zealous Inquisition by embarking on missions to exterminate the threats lurking in the depths of the hive city, or die trying.
Adapt to the erratic whims of Chaos with conditions- mutators that add a spontaneous challenge to your mission. Your team must learn to adjust, adopt new tactics and change up their loadouts to face these ruthless challenges.

i cant believe they didnt make the demons in this slaanesh, i was ready for the first game to be banned in all territories but instead its just NURGLE
who even wants to fight nurgle embracing inevitable decay and death is literally the spirit of 2022
Slaanesh only busts out the sex and drugs when in distress.
It was that somehow, from within the derelict-horror, they had learned a way to see inside an ugly, broken thing... And take away its pain.

The people in this character creator have it fucking rough. . .Jesus. Like life has kicked the absolute shit out of them. And this is WITHOUT facial scars.
EDIT: Holy shit. This isn't FATSHARKS first rodeo clearly; Discord chat is on a 15 minute timer. Hilarious. They probably know the kind of spam first day launch produces.
Loving how when you go into a run, the character, at least with sharpshooter and the shovel, adjusts their grip on the weapon in a way that makes sense for like, actual running

Yeah there's several nice touches in the game (this is coming from someone who knows nothing about WH beyond what I get from the video games) like the Zealot goes into a pretty snooty stance when you go idle. Maybe it's the same for all other.

I’ve been able to finish the prologue and training. But no dice on even getting anywhere near a playable mission. Lag and server dropping is common so I dunno what’s up.

Also WHY MUST I SHARE MY SPACE WITH OTHERS
sharing is for the TAU

Just had my first crash; otherwise, performance is surprisingly stable for me with the occasional dip into mid to high 50/40. I will say though, like some folks were pointing out in the Diablo 4 beta a few weeks ago, it is hard to visually distinguish what is going on sometimes or to pick threats out from the environment. Also, the game is just. . ."ugly." I understand that color I guess doesn't work for this property (I know next to nothing about WH40K beyond what I played in the WH MMO awhile back) but boy oh boy would some pallete that helps separate out the environment be nice. It's really difficult - at least for me and my eyes.
Beyond that I'm having a blast, though the low-level grind to get your first unlock or decent weapons or anything to set yourself out from other players, seems a bit long. Not terrible as I'm nearly level 5 after three hours but still not "fast" either. Maybe that is by design. Speaking of progression, I do kind of see what they were going for with the classes and the "build variety", though I don't think it's as deep as they think it is. The game needs more classes like yesterday and I'm not sure their quarterly drop schedule is going to cut it.
I am enjoying popping peoples heads as a psyker; a bit dissapointed with the performance of my 3060 @ 1080p (averaging around 50-60 fps on medium) but oh well.
Can someone give a rough idea of what has changed since the beta? I'm trying to figure out if this is worth the money to buy on release. I played the beta and enjoyed some base Vermintide 2 (not enough to get the DLCs)
I was more interested in the details for progression and class varieties but thanks for that info. In the end, the core gameplay loop from my initial impression seems to be similar to Vermintide's, re-run missions to fill bar, get money or loot boxes when bar is filled then repeat. I'll probably watch some streams and figure it out from there
I'm not super happy about the run being tied to stamina, but that's because I'm used to playing V2, it probably is good for this game. Also I keep snap shotting all the specials in the head, all those re-reads of rhe entire Guant's series really paying off.

My first boot up of this game and load up of the prologue took an eternity and I don't know if that's the game itself or the servers or what, but once I was in, I was running on high without RTX on my 2060 and after turning volumetric fog and SSAO to medium it seems to run real smooth!
The only issue now is server disconnects and actually getting into a game
Oh, and character creation. I sincerely hope we can customize again later or they add that functionality because I didn't choose Cadia for my Veteran because I didn't want to be like all the other boys, BUT the voice option that's locked to Cadian origin is a truly excellent Christian Bale impersonator and I kinda wanna make that character
I'm definitely gonna have to do a test to figure out which is the best voice for each class. It seems like a pretty tight contest so far! All the voice acting is really killer, very hammy and extremely Warhammer
got my Psycker to 11, mainly just using the catachan sword until a decent force sword pops up on the vendor. Also sporting a lasrifle most of the time too. Cosmetics are largely fixed to level or achievement things. Like I got a different set of pants with one spikey kneepad after head popping a dog mid jump. There is another where I have to kill 20 dudes by force pushing to their deaths within 2 seconds... my guess is wait for a horde by a ledge and let em have it.
So far the only force staff I have found is the one from the Beta, no lightning or flame one yet. Its been very stable just had one crash which I logged right back into the session. Still seeing the usual with people being all gungho and running off ahead. Once again not seeing many Ogren players at all.
Not everything is open yet.. Barber/Cosmetic merchant not active and gives a standard fatshark non name error when you try to visit.

Man those system reqs. 6800XT for Medium at 1920x1080 with no ray tracing and with FSR on, and 60fps expected?
The game hasn't looked that impressive from what I've seen to warrant those types of requirements.

I've been frothing for this game, this is what I've been wanting and waiting for since Vermintide 1 was announced, but now I have to put getting a copy for my boyfriend and I on the back burner until I am gainfully employed again...
I've been frothing for this game, this is what I've been wanting and waiting for since Vermintide 1 was announced, but now I have to put getting a copy for my boyfriend and I on the back burner until I am gainfully employed again...
it's going to be on Gamepass on Nov. 30th if you want to avoid paying full price
Will progress third party account based that will carry over to the Steam version when I eventually get that?
I played up till level 11 to see what this other vendor was saying and I'll say the game is. . .good. It's not blowing me away (other than the visuals and level design - I like that multiple missions take you in slightly different paths on the same map), but it's not a dumpster fire. It's VERMINTIDE in space, where instead of some fantasy trope your playing a. . .space Nazi? (Honestly, that's what I'm getting from the loading screen tutorial/tips)
I decided to play the Psyker instead of the Zealot (which was my original plan) and she's basically Sienna from VT2 with the same "heat" mechanic; the progressing of your character is once again up to your weapons, which themselves will determine what your gameplay "style" is (I've been going with a Force Sword, though I'm not sure I'm using it right and it feels like it is more suited for a melee style build versus the range I have been trying to play my Psyker as); the abbey is now a giant ship, except now missions are more Deep Rock Galactic than fixed missions you queue up for - which is how I remember VT.
Speaking of, so far the weapons have been kind of overwhelming and not as gameplay changing as they were in VT. I've seen two melee options and two range options. . .that's it. The Feats do seen to favor one style of gameplay over others, but hasn't really changed up how I'm seeing myself play.
. . .all in all, decent enough game. Probably want to wait until launch if you're really considered about first impressions being as best they can, as the games content is wildly meager at the start of beta (though the mission variety does keep you from completely going "We just did this!"). Performance is also pretty good, though I don't see why the game should be as taxing as it seems like it is, other than just needing more optimization passes from FATSHARK (I'm getting 60FPS like most of the time, but it can dip and feel a little odd in some places; none of my wipes has been down to performance though).
Note: this is a 100% online game. There is currently ZERO way to have a bespoke gameplay experience, and that might turn people off who like to go at their own pace. One thing I wish is that I could run a map solo with bots, so I could actually - yanno - learn the map and its layout. The game, like VT, has side missions where you're hunting for items on the map (I'm going to guess we'll get the same mechanics once the full game releases, but for now you just have to find items) but I've never found one or seen someone pick them up so have no idea what I'm looking for. The maps themselves are also dizzying so it is easy to get lost, something that being able to run a map by yourself and get used to the layout would help. Hopefully this is coming, because I can't see this utter lack of agency over how and with whom you engage the game isn't cutting it.

Kinda sorta? You are definitely participating in the space Secret Police, with all that tends to entail, but the threats they police are, as you've likely noticed by now, slightly more real and dangerous than the usual targets for secret police.

I could “well actually” about the Inquisition all day long but I’ll stick to the broad strokes.
Inquisitors are a law unto themselves. No one is really in charge of the Inquisition and ostensibly all Inquisitors are equal in rank.
How Inquisitors operate and what they deem important is up to the individual. Some are more action hero while others are like noir detectives. Some never leave their sanctum sanctorum and have their retinue do the leg work. Some Inquistors work alone, others have a trusted cadre of followers and a few even have a personal army.
Personality wise they range from heroic paragons legitimately trying to protect people to sociopaths whose cure is often worse than the disease. Most are somewhere in between.
The threat they fight however is very real and extraordinarily terrible. Chaos in 40k is like a memetic virus. Simply knowing of its existence, even vaguely, can and often will spell doom in a H. R. Giger on a bad acid trip kind of way for those who haven’t been properly conditioned (and subsequently their world). Which is like 99.999% of humanity.
Even for those properly conditioned it is pretty common that those who fight it either die in the line of duty or eventually succumb and turn traitor. Hell, even Space Marines who are probably some of the most conditioned, brain washed and genetically predisposed to loyalty out of all of humanity can and do fall to Chaos.
For some of the unwashed masses even simply seeing a daemon is enough to turn them instantly.
Blessed is the mind to small for doubt, indeed.

Also, it wouldn't be 40k if it wasn't "We selected the most optimal recruits and then put them through training with a 99% failure rate. And by failure rate I almost always mean that they died".

That's what I get from playing this and the NEOCORE WH40K ARPG (where I thought only that Psyker was an Inquisitor - like that was THEIR class and the others were like Space-Paladin, Cyber-GeekSquad and Gunlady). Maybe not Nazi's (obviously) but they clearly aren't the "good guys" (if such even exist in this universe). Like these mutants are clearly bad, but "the Emperor" and his sycophants are obviously not a net-benefit for humanity (there's gotta be Trump/Emperor memes unironically out there).
It honestly sounds like a cool setting, but there's no multimedia on this right (like an animated show or something); feels like it would translate INSANELY well to a genre show in some format (maybe not live-action because that seems like it would be expensive as hell).
