https://genshin.mihoyo.com/enWhat is Genshin Impact?
A F2P open world action RPG gacha game that basically rips its exploration straight from Breath of the Wild, it's developed by miHoYo
But what IS Genshin Impact?
GI is kind of a weird game when it comes to gachas, clearly meant to appeal to a larger console audience as well as mobile gamers. If you are a fan of the large open world and style of Breath of the Wild you'll probably feel right at home. There's climbing, swimming, gliding, and you'll absolutely run out of stamina at the worst time and die because of it. There's puzzles to discover and chests to open literally everywhere. There's dungeons and world bosses and the action combat is extremely smooth with unique abilities for each character along with a fairly involved elemental combo system. Seriously, look at this chart:
1.3 is out February 3rdSystems
Cross Save: PC, IOS, Android. PS4 does not currently allow cross-save to my knowledge
Cross Play: Yes, all players can play with each other.

Now that we're 4 months into the launch of the game, it can feel pretty intimidating to get started! Before we get to quick tips, the most important thing - This game plays like
Breath of the Wild, and you can engage with exploration/story quests without ever engaging with the gacha elements. None of the content is hard enough to force you to spend money to roll on any characters. Getting new characters is fun, and some of the end game content requires stringent party lineup, but this is not a game about paying to win. Most of the community here is F2P or very light levels of investment.
Leveling UpCharacters
- Character Rarity: Characters come in two different flavors - 4* and 5*. The gap between 4* and 5* characters is sometimes not that wide, so don't let it color your preconceived notions of who is good or bad.
- Character Levels: Characters level up just like in any rpg, and gain some stats when they do. In general, you are going to use EXP books to level characters
- Character Ascension: Certain aspects of a character are gated behind
Ascensions, which are triggered at certain level blocks (20, 40, 50, etc.). You need three different "types" of materials to ascend a character. Elemental Stones, Enemy Drops, and Farmable Ingredients. You also get free draws for ascending characters.
- Character Talents: Finally, characters can enhance their attack, skill, and boost by upgrading their Talents. Characters always have three upgradable talents, and they all use Talent Books and Enemy Drops as materials.
Weapons
- Weapon Rarity: Weapons can be 3,4, or 5*. In general, 4 and 5 star weapons can
only be gotten by rolling wishes. There are 4 star craftable weapons but the materials to craft these weapons are rare
- Weapon Levels: Weapons are levelled up using Enhancement Gems.
- Weapon Ascension: Weapons can ascend just like characters, at the same level caps as characters.
- Weapon Refinement: Weapons can "eat" the same type of weapon to increase their secondary ability. This can be done up to five times.
Artifacts
- Artifact levels: Artifacts can "eat" any other artifact to gain levels and therefore more of its given stat. Every 4 levels, the artifact will generate a new "substat" up to four of them, and after that will level up those substats randomly.
World Level/Adventure Rank
Your Adventure Rank is the overall sum of experience in the world. You level this up with quests and exploration. Once your AR hits certain ranks, it will raise your World Level, which alters the difficulty of mobs in the world, the levels of domains you can tackle, and engagement with certain systems (like co-op)
Resin
This is the energy system in the game. You use Resin to complete World Bosses, Domains, and Ley Lines. Resin generates at 1 per every 8 minutes. The Resin cap is 160.
- Fragile Resin: This is an item that will immediately give you 60 Resin.
These are currently rare and un-farmable. I recommend not using these at all until your World Level is 6 or higher
- Condensed Resin: Cram 40 Resin into a fairy and turn it into a consumable item that doubles your reward for Domains. Incredibly useful and time saving. You can only hold 3
Exploration Help
There are two key items you'll find while exploring Tevyat: Anemoculous and Geoculus. There are a lot of them, and they are used to level up your stamina. I recommend using this interactive map to mark them off when you find them:
https://genshin-impact-map.appsample.com/#/Primogems, Fates, and their usage
There are two currencies for making wishes (rolling the Gacha) in the game -
Acquaint Fates and
Intertwined Fates. Acquaint Fates, the blue ones,
only work on the permanent banner. The permanent banner has a set number of 5* characters (Jean, QiQi, Diluc, Mona, Keqing) and almost all of the 4* characters currently in the game, as well as a selection of weapons.
Intertwined Fates are pink/blue and are used on the Rotating Character and the Rotating Weapon banners.
Primogems are the "free" currency that you get for doing certain things in the game. The exchange rate for Primogems to Fates is 160 - 1. Meaning a ten draw costs 1,600 Gems.
It is my opinion that you should never be using Primogems to buy Acquaint Fates. You get these naturally through other means and it is simply not a good financial investment to put your gems towards anything other than a character banner that you are interested in. Weapon Banners should also be avoided for F2P players. That is Whale Territory.
Pity
GI has a pity system on its draws. Every
Ten Draws on a specific banner guarantees a 4* item or character. Every
Ninety Draws guarantees a 5* item or character. In regards to the rotating banners, this count is agnostic and carries across new banners. For instance, if you draw on a character banner 50 times and do not get the featured 5*, on the next banner you are guaranteed to get a 5* drop in at least 40 draws.
Additionally, there is a secondary pity system for getting what you actually want. After 90 (80 in the weapon banner) draws, you have a 50% chance of getting the featured character. If you do not, in your next pity draw you will have a 100% chance to get the featured character. This is also carried across banners.
Quick Tips for new players
- Artifacts are more important than the game leads you to believe. Artifact set bonuses and stat gains are critical to a character being viable, even early on in the game. I use
this google sheet for help with what artifacts are useful and what stats a character should be aiming for
- Once you get a team you like, you can use this calculator for numbers research
https://genshinimpactcalculator.com/genshinCalc
- The "Cup" slot Artifacts can roll a "boost specific element damage" main stat. This is incredibly important to almost every character's build. Do not throw away any (4 or 5*) cups that have an elemental or physical damage boost. You never know when a character would like one.
- Leveling your character is not as important as
Ascending your character. Ascension is the gate for leveling up talents and getting your character's unique stat growth boosted. The max level is 90, but in general, most characters should not be levelled past 80, and some support characters do not need to be levelled past 60/70.
- Co-op can make Domains easier and is a very painless process. If you're having trouble with a domain, click the match button and you should pretty instantly get into a 4 person party.
- The Monthly Shop will showcase 2 characters you can "buy" each month. The currency used for these characters is generated by wishing, and it's possible to get enough to buy at least one from the free pulls you can generate.

Not sure if that's the new thread smell or the stink of Dehya's leaked kit. Curious to see if it really goes live like that.
It's definitely possible to make her good without overhauling it. But... we'll have to wait and see. I am certainly concerned, at the moment.
Totally blaming Kid Bum #1 for getting me hooked; been watching her play this for the past 6 months before she left for her study abroad trip.
Unfortunately and unbeknownst to us, she locked in her account on my PSN account and it's a pain in the butt to get it deactivated so I'm relegated to play on our aging family tower PC.
Fortunately, on the lowest default graphics settings it's running the game pretty well, so down the rabbit hole I went.
Currently AR 31 and working my way through the Liyue area with some Dragonspine quests to finish.
She's supposed to be a "tank" but in a game with Zhongli's immortality shield (with 20% res shred, too) that seems like an useless niche. The latest beta patch added some HP scaling to her attacks even at c0 but it also reduced her ATK scaling. I was aiming to get her but so far she is looking too weak to be fun.
But power-level doesn’t mean much to me. It is an unusual design niche that speaks to a game Genshin isn’t.
I like going for the underdog characters, but this one is pretty rough.

I really want to know why they made Cyno such a pain in the ass to level.

Admittedly, I haven't seen the changed kit. Adding HP scaling is a good move but taking away Attack is just...hilarious in a bad way. The only way that people could make sense of her was that she was apparently "specifically designed for Co-Op" which is such a joke for this game in particular that I just don't even know.
It's something like a 6% increase on HP builds, if the math people were doing checks out.
I think the bigger problem is she's a tank in a game that doesn't really need tanks? Unless they're really revolutionizing their multiplayer, her kit is just weird. Her burst doesn't trigger other attacks (Xingqiu/Yelan/Beidou) which means she's not pulling reactions like you want.
But I love her so much. Still getting her. And I'll find a way to make her work.

I have 593 bird eggs.
I think she can swap to the seagrass/chicken expedition now.
imagine thinking you can have too many egg.

It is technically in increase, after having looked at it but just barely and I don't know if it's an increase /overall/ considering what her apparent best teams are looking like.
I'm going to spoiler this since it's getting heavy into the leaks and mech and such and not everyone might be interested. (Also this is not specifically directed as instructing you or anything, it's basically just a jumping off point to cover what I've seen so far in general to elaborate on why it's such a mess)
-The HP% scalings are so small that they only barely balance out the loss to her ATK% scaling (which is ignoring certain influences like...)
-The only 'good' teams for her at the moment are Mono-Pyro (Some combination of Bennett, Kazuha/Sucrose and another Pyro like Xiangling...who will be doing far more damage than her) and maybe Reverse-Melt
Nerfing her ATK% scaling means Bennett gives her less benefit which would be fine if she had, y'know, options.
Giving her HP% inherent to her kit is a good move in theory, except the best source of some extra HP% is Hydro Resonance....which she does not benefit from. Her reliable Pyro application is too slow to get much benefit from Vaporize and, damningly, her Burst is technically 'Automatic' with some interaction. What this means is that when she is applying the most Pyro she can, which is in her Burst, she can't trigger Xingqiu's Rain Swords or Yelan's Throw even though you are pressing attack during her Burst. Every other Hydro character cannot really apply Hydro that fast and even with a faster Hydro application, like say a Hydro Archon, her damage is still relying on small numbers compared to everyone else, which means she's still going to be poor with more vapes and will get outclassed by every other Pyro character in the game almost. (I don't know anything about the Hydro Archon, it's just been a popular theory that Dehya has been designed to work with her which is naive at best) This is because, even if she's got Dual-Scaling rather than Split-scaling, sources of stats don't...work that way. You can have an artifact with ATK% and HP% and get benefit with Dual-Scaling but she's still going to benefit /more/ from ATK%. This means it actively disincentivizes you to build HP intentionally, which means her entire kit is going to suffer. And since they took away ATK% scaling to give her a minute HP% bonus...yeah.
The actual idea of her kit is interesting but I think it's completely unnecessary considering it's not providing a unique benefit. At most it's a 50% damage mitigation (technically 56% but we're not counting Constellations) for your other characters in limited windows (8 seconds of downtime between when her skill disappears and can be cast again, not counting that her Burst consumes it) and vaguely worded 'interruption resistance'. As an alternative to just using a Shield, it....isn't. And as we've covered, her Pyro application is dire. And the biggest downside to it is that she literally only does anything if your characters stay in the field she puts down. If you step out of it, she's not giving Mitigation OR Resistance Interruption. Which means if her skill field is small, she's actually just that much more useless.
So basically she fails as an on-field DPS because she doesn't have the numbers or reaction viability, she fails as an off-field sub-DPS for the same reasons and because her Burst is basically 100% only Pyro damage from small numbers, and she fails as an off-field Support because she doesn't really give reaction assistance, she doesn't give a unique benefit to warrant using her (which is actually restrictive because the benefits she gives only apply if your characters stay in a certain area), she barely generates any energy particles (which means her 70 cost Burst is laughable) and, worst of all, you run her for damage mitigation, not prevention...which means you're still going to need a healer.
This is why I say her kit is Intentionally Bad. I'm not saying that to just say it; her kit displays a complete understanding of the workings of the game and a complete disregard for making something viable within them. And it does so in such a way that salvaging it with something in the future (as a lot of people are suggesting) would require something very hyper-specific. For an artifact set, you basically need to make a Reverse-Vermillion Hereafter set since she doesn't actually work with the Vermillion Hereafter set because her Burst is about the only time she can't be damaged. And that would have a terrible knock-on effect for some characters like Hu Tao, likely, so they wouldn't do that. A hypothetical future Hydro character, Archon or not, that works with her to vape would need to be a healer with off-field presence that shares her pyro ticks so that they couldn't just be used with literally any other Pyro character instead, or can increase her Pyro application speed somehow, which, again, would have issues with other characters. This is not a case where she's being released 'incomplete' as some characters have been in the past to be 'fixed' with something in the future. She's being released in a state (assuming there are no further changes) that is almost impossible to buff after the fact.
The ways to turn it around at this point are basically any combination of the following:
-Reverse her scalings: HP% set as her primary scaling with ATK% as a Dual-Scale with low-mid priority. Something that means an ATK% Claymore isn't a waste for her, basically, where you'll want to focus on HP% otherwise.
-Increase her Pyro application dramatically: There is talk going around where her Burst, with the help of Mona, can Vape 4 out of 10 hits which is...not great. Take that with a grain of salt, of course. Personally, I don't want her to just be another Pyro character that wants all your Hydro characters to play with them but it's that way for a reason. She also apparently vapes better than she burgeons which is almost sadly impressive. Also give her literally any kind of Elemental Mastery through passives or something since she has zero as is.
-Embrace her Kit further: Bump up her mitigation to something actually worth it. Make it so that there's a chance damage is negated completely or something. Add a lifesteal to her coordinated attack so that you're gaining /some/ HP back. I cannot emphaize this enough: Make sure the field that your characters have to stand in for her kit to actually do anything is real big! Alternatively, don't make your team need to stand in a field to actually just have her do anything. If she's meant to be a Support, she needs to be able to support.
-Add a new layer to her Kit: Give her 'Revenge' damage additives based on what she absorbs through the Mitigation to give her a set rotation. (Skill->switch off->switch back in after skill expires to Burst, throw down new skill and repeat)
-Just make numbers go up: Keep her kit the way it is so that she doesn't really synergize with anyone and balance her to stand on her own. If the only real damage benefit she can get is from Bennett and Kazuha/Sucrose, balance her around that or something.
I'm not convinced they're going to do anything, though. They just seem dead-set on releasing her like she is for...some reason. The changes she's gotten have been minimal and made her worse on every step (arguably even this last one) and nobody has any idea why. It would just be easy to say "well obviously there's something coming in the future that will make her good" but that's bad logic and I'm honestly finding it difficult to imagine what they could do in the future if that's the route they're choosing.
tl;dr Dehya as it stands is an absolute mess and needs help that she probably won't get.
So yeah... There's no hope for her to be meaningfully changed I'd wager.

How is Klee, the first character added after launch, holding up as a pyro DPS?
Not great. She's fine and if you got used to her in the beginning she still performs as she did. But her timing has always been wonky in the first place.
But, and this must be said repeatedly I think, Genshin tries to avoid power creep. A ton of players clear all the content aside from the highest abyss levels with a horribly optimized Traveler. They've designed the game to be playable by just about anyone. You can make any character work.
https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197970666737/
Her burst is an effect that creates what is basically a turret, but she needs to be on-field, which is also a turnoff for some.
I kinda like her though, but I do prefer characters that actually get to stay on field for more than half a second so I don't mind her burst.
perhaps we can just pretend that deyha is an interesting 4*
i eagerly await the next artifact set drop, wherein hoyo will try to fix her kit with a shakespearian sonnet style arti-set description
Her E is also fairly unique still, and has fun interactions with anemo.

Edit: I broke the streak. Yelan get.
I think I have won the toss tre, maybe four, times. And one was on the Keqing banner.
I have Keqing at c7 now. That feels real bad.
.
Island. Being on fire.
Somebody never losing 50/50 would still have a few of standard banner 5*s from the blue fates.
Edit, want to work on another cryo, all at C0 would you recommend Rosaria, Kaeya, or Diona?
Diona is different. If you're bringing her, it's about healing and shields. Enemies do take an ATK reduction as well, which is nice, and if you have her at C6, you get a very nice EM boost from her ult. But on the down side, her cryo application is weak.
https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561197970666737/
Now I guess I continue the questline in the Chasm to finally open up the Interlude Chapter quest.
Thanks, I’ll work Kaeya first.
Edit: I wish I had invested in Lisa or Kaeya over Razor when I started, or even Noelle. I suppose in the grand scheme it’s not that much to get a character to level 60 and A4.
yaoyao with Tenacity set has good synergy with toma's shields, which help yao's kinda weak healing by protecting from all the fire that gets created.
haith is so strong that it doesnt even matter that thoma is a bit weak.
