You like cult Japanese horror films? So do these guys, somewhat raw black metal with little flourishes of folk and atmosphere. Their last (second) album is also pretty sweet.
The new Hellbutcher is awesome as expected, and a nice new black/folk metal duo in the new Arstidir Lifsins and Sig:Ar:Tyr, the latter of whom we haven't heard from in a while and has gone in a slightly more solidly black metal direction but there are still folk parts no worries.
This album is also pretty dope, international black metal lineup, I think this project might have come about after the Sinmara/Suffering Hour tour that I was lucky to experience, since it's got members of both those groups, as well as Oculus, Whoredom Rife, etc. Gonna grab a copy.
Primordial was really great last night even powering through technical difficulties without missing a beat. I think I was the only one in the audience who knew the chorus to Empire Falls that Alan wanted us to sing 😬
Bloodbath was ok. I'm glad I saw them, but not surprisingly most songs not from the first two albums were fairly boring. Still they did Brave New Hell and I was happy.
It is TOO funny that you just posted this @Kakodaimonos because before I logged on to the forum, I literally just opened this promo in the snail mail. Crazy coincidence. Will review it and the last couple promos LADLO sent this month.

Kind of tempted by that new Black Sabbath box set Anno Domini 1989-1995 which contains remastered versions of all the Tony Martin albums except The Eternal Idol. Unfortunately, I already have all those albums except for Forbidden but it sounds like the remaster actually makes the album sound good? I've never actually heard anything from it.
I don't think the Forbidden remaster really makes that much of a difference, but that's because I'm not into the tunes. I've listened through 2-3 of the other albums and I think they all get a little boost from the remaster.
Tony Iommi's autobiography even describes it as "the one that should have been forbidden". I appreciate the attempt to improve it, at least, but as someone who also already has the Martin-era albums (and likes them a lot, aside from Forbidden), the price tag of that box set is a bit steep.
New Severe Torture is a solid one, not a lot of the songs are sticking out in my head but if you like that Cannibal Corpse style of death metal then it's a sure fit. I do like the last track "Tear All the Flesh Off the Earth" a lot, great title too.
I was way more surprised with the new True Black Dawn promo, it's just very, very well made black metal, blows their earlier albums out of the water (though the second one was pretty good); nice range of scathing and fast to some slower tunes, loving his vocals throughout.
In sadder news, Gilead Media - who put out lots of awesome shit like Mizmor, Thou, Krallice, Yellow Eyes, Couch Slut, Ustalost, False, Sunrise Patriot Motion, and more - are apparently closing up shop. The upcoming Mizmor/Hell split will be one of 3 final releases.

I'm digging the fattened up choruses and the lead guitar is more forward than the original and the solo goes extra hard. Still miss Thomen's drum presence, though.

Got to do a meet and greet with Archspire this weekend. Funny guys, it was all Christmas themed for some reason.
We got to do a group-vocal session with the band, and they recorded us for gang-vocals on the next album. We all had to scream out 'WE ARE AWOKEN TO WITNESS!'. It was a lot of fun.
also that new leprous track has a synth line that could be straight out of risk of rain 2 - obviously as literal musicians they listen to a lot of music, but i also know those dweebs be playing games... my eyes are on them

That was a fun hour to listen to. And the Wheel album they plugged in the beginning is fantastic if you're into prog adjacent stuff like Porcupine Tree:
"Master of Puppets" was already an emote, the intro to this season had "Fuel" on the soundtrack, and the band's appearance had been extremely strongly teased and even made a leak. There's more Metallica songs in there now for Festival mode, as well as alternate (less fantasy-costumed than in the pic) versions of the band members, a Ride the Lightning-themed weapon I've not been able to try yet, etc etc.
This feels like such a weird collab. Like, they've already done The Weeknd, Lady Gaga, and Billie Eilish. But even so. This just feels like it lands differently.
It made me think of the Kiss Kasket, of all things...

And yes, they have a track titled "Murder on the Back Nine".

I was just knocked in the head with a block of Västerbotten.
Always liked these guys, Dragonslayer was a monster of a debut album and Chosen Ones has been a steady force in my listing rotation for 20 years.

I love the first couple of minutes. Fun progression with a slow Doom feel and then at 1:16 UNLEASH THE TREMOLO

If it ain't baroque...seriously it features call/response sections with harpsichord synth and filthy distorted guitar harmonics, this fucking slays.
