I'm still not wholly convinced that the anime threads aren't just massive honeypots and that Sterica's gonna go through and infract every single post in every single anime thread again.
That was a good thread.
Is that a thing that happened?!
Also anime threads had a much earned reputation for being where people went to utterly ignore the rules of the forum, posting porn and piracy on every other page.
They also attracted a certain type of poster to the forums at the time, as I recall. Luckily that hasn't been the case since the thread returned.

Most of the posters' reactions are very defensive of keeping the anime thread now that it's back, so people do a very good job curating actually decent anime and not talking about the bad stuff that might've been featured in the before times.
Also a lot of the regulars are ten years older and occasionally more sensible.
I think it's telling that SE++ is the one to get an anime thread and not D&D, because the culture of the latter seems like people would try to debatemebro on problematic anime bullshit being fine and dandy for more often. Meanwhile on SE++ you can tell those people to shut the fuck up as a non-mod far more easily

I think it's because no one really wants to mod an anime thread. And so keeping it in SE++ facilitates that.

It mostly has to do with culture differences and the fact that D&D had a dedicated anime thread for a while but certain posters made it a miserable place so they axed it forever more.

Weren't they all meant to be, like horribly mutilated? We only got a few explicit examples like Komaeda's arm being replaced with Junko's, and he did indeed have a nice robot hand instead, but there was definitely an implication that they were all hecked up in the real world and wouldn't be able to live normal lives. What happened with that lol.

Yeah. Though miserable is honestly an understatement, there was some creepy-ass shit posted there. it was fuckin terrible

If you can believe it, the SE thread was MORE miserable and MORE toxic, hence why it was destroyed well before D&D's was. It's because it was gone for so long that we've been rather vigilant about people who rock the boat.

I mean, I think in general there's been a lot of housecleaning since then in terms of 'the fallacy of geek tolerance' and.missing stair kind of stuff that people now go, 'fix that fucking stair!' Instead of letting it pass.
I talk about bad anime all the time, you can't stop me!
I just know what details don't need to be brought up. And to definitely never post pics/video, if I ever have any doubts at all.
The problem wasn't bad anime.
The problem was you would get a certain sort of posting that made you feel like you should go take a bath in Bibles.
This was indeed the problem. People were....VOCAL about their sexual attraction to certain anime characters, and it would devolve into chaos every time.
I occasionally read some absolutely trash smut manga, you just don't see me talking about it in here because there's very little to be gained from discussing it

I mean, yes, porn and smut and shit is good, actually. I ain't gonna kinkshame people for having "problematic" fetishes in drawn art or whatever. A general anime thread is probably not the place to discuss those, however.
What really gets my gonads gushing is when people scream and enflame their auras and enhance their martial prowess does anyone have any good recommendations for that sort of thing its very sexy and rare

This is the loudest manga you will ever read. There is no piece of paper or image display on a screen more capable of making you feel written words as LOUD. These stupid goofballs figuring out dating, ringing your eardrums at the same time.
Iirc called Extremely Straightforward Boyfriend X Girlfriend.
I don't know how to express how much I understand the difference between "I need to get stronger" and "I need to fight/be strong". One is making preparations without a specific end goal in mind, the other is accepting to use what you have, including the ability to improve yourself, to overcome the difficulties inherent in achieving a goal.
It's why Subaru wasn't making any progress before the end of ep 18. He hadn't decided to fight yet.
Did I talk about how Subaru made references to Evangelion's dialogue in a few episodes prior to, and including, ep 18? I haven't heard one from him since. I'm betting I don't hear one from him again.

People haven't been talking about it in this thread but season 2 of Ancient Magus Bride is still good. It might be a good idea to watch the first season since it doesn't have really any refresher despite the first season coming out like five years ago.
Oh, and I've gotta say (This is a spoiler but in no way an important spoiler):
Like all stories of sufficient length it somehow ties back to the bombing of Dresden.
I remembered some details wrong, but it was over a decade ago and I'm old so that's bound to happen.
crwth actually created it, and since it was April Fools Day the mods let it ride but eventually started having Geth ban certain words and phrases so you got automatically infracted if you said them. Then the thread was closed sometime the next day and everyone had their infractions/bans undone.
Thread is HERE should you wish to walk down the nightmare of memory lane.

The nightmare would be the thread in D&D that got anime threads banned. Playing chicken with Geth, that's just fun.

I've never much posted in D&D so I missed that one. I understand it had something to do with a certain vampire anime that's based on a vastly better manga?
I was a little proud of the post that got me banned when playing chicken with Geth in this one though.
Haven't posted here in a minute but been watching some anime, so here's some drive-by hot takes.
Summertime Rendering - Watched the whole thing because of the hype but never really got into it. Too much explaining of the "rules" for me. SSSS.Dynazenon - Some of the fights were good, but SSSS.Gridman had a much, much better story and villains. Heavenly Delusion - Was really enjoying this until I read a certain spoiler upthread and am now noping out. Hell's Paradise - The trippy designs are cool, but I'm kind of over fighting anime unless the animation is super good. I think I got to episode 10; not certain if I'll continue. Oshi no Ko - After a few episodes I'm not certain why the gimmick for the two main characters that the movie-length premiere covered is even important. Left off at episode 4 and on the fence about continuing. Wotakoi: Love is Hard for Otaku - Saw the first three episodes. Cute and well probably watch more eventually. Kaguya-Sama: Love is War - Love the OP. Loved the first episode. Will probably continue. Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury - The last few episodes felt kind of meandering TBH, but still liking it. I'm afraid the last few episodes will will feel rushed if this really is the end, though.
I just remembered I never finished The 86. One of the new characters early in season 2 really turned me off from the show despite loving season 1, but I guess I should give it another chance.

Up to latest episode spoilers.
I don't think I could possibly articulate just how critically "this cannot ever be removed" important the last few episodes have been for the development of the main character Suletta Mercury.
Like jesus christ I haven't seen a breakdown and rebuild of a character so hard before. She was just beaten over and over with metaphorical sticks until it smashed through her incredibly powerful brainwashing and she broke and then was forced to rebuild herself. And she did. And it turns out it wasn't all brainwashing. She just really is that strong, in her core.
(PSN: Morninglord) (Steam: Morninglord) (WiiU: Morninglord22) I like to record and toss up a lot of random gaming videos here.
Well, at least Sound Yuriphonium S2 still gets pretty gay.
Come study alone, riiiiight.
Naoko Yamada stopped being the lead director on sound euphonium after S2E1 and you can reaaaally tell as soon as she leaves
Like s1 is pretty subtexty but I don't really think of it as queerbaiting, Kumiko is super super gay all the time, even before she starts flirting with Reina.
Then she leaves and there's still like a bit of flirting now and then, but all the little shots and lines and stuff disappear.
I should mostly be sick of subtexty yuri, but when done well there's still something sort of compelling about like, how do we write this character as gay without ever actually explicitly saying they're gay. Just kinda a style of "if you know you know and otherwise you're missing part of the story and we're not spelling it out." Similar to Rakugo Shinjuu, too.
A trap is for fish: when you've got the fish, you can forget the trap. A snare is for rabbits: when you've got the rabbit, you can forget the snare. Words are for meaning: when you've got the meaning, you can forget the words.

Even back then, they knew.
There's also "Hinata and Mikasa", which isn't new, but is complete, and has equivalent levels of energy:

The very title is something anime sorely needs more of as a premise: established couples, what a concept.
