Injury wise, though, Kerry Wood and Mark Prior are in sort of the same boat, which, as a Cubs fan, I don't especially love. You could for sure envision a world where those guys come up even a decade later with better knowledge on how to use pitchers and help them extend their careers, and maybe they're hall of famers. I know people love to blame Dusty Baker for blowing out their arms, but the entire league was full of teams that would have done the same thing, and they're still fighting to stop college and high school level coaches from overworking pitchers.
Yeah I can think of about a dozen pitchers from that period who could have probably been big stars, or at least had long careers, but they all threw out their arms in 2-3 years or less. Eric Gagne and Billy Koch, maybe Scott Kazmir counts, they all come to mind immediately, but there were so many before people figured out that it was a terrible trend.

if you just leave out Saucedo Ms pitching went 27 innings (a full 27 because Saucedo didn't manage to get an out) allowing only 4 runs. Including seven full innings of relief pitching yesterday.
L 1-0 on a walkoff homerun after they don't get a hit for seven innings despite our starter throwing 5 innings of no-hit
W 4-3 after giving up a ridiculous Little League home run to erase a 3-0 lead
W 10-3 hitting 5 home runs and coasting to a finish
I swear to god I shouldn't be this frustrated after winning a series, but that's been this entire season, really. Ridiculously inconsistent. Oh, plus despite winning 2 of 3 we fell out of the WC spot. That really says it all.

just keep winning and we can knock the Astros out of a WC spot
I love that the baseball announcers just call all the bad calls out as being terrible and don't try to cover up terrible officiating like they will during Football broadcasts.
Someone pointed out that according to Fangraphs WAR, since the beginning of 2022, Nico Hoerner has been more valuable than Matt Olson, Juan Soto and Pete Alonso, largely on the strength of fielding a premium position and being an excellent baserunner, both things that are really good to be with the new rules.
I think I talked about it before the season, but I think the reasons the Cubs have overperformed where they were supposed to be this year, a bit (even if they're still lagging behind where they should be when you look at run differential) is that they looked at the new rules and actively made decisions that would help them succeed. They got a bit of a lucky break with Bellinger playing this well, and they certainly made some bad choices (it took them way too long to just say fuck it and but Bellinger at first base instead of a bunch of guys who couldn't field or hit, for instance) but signing Swanson to anchor the middle of the field and moving their excellent defensive shortstop over to second base has almost certainly won them some games, and it's for sure made the pitching staff look better.

Luis Castillo threw 47 fastballs in a row tonight and I have not honestly thought about Lance Lynn in years but seeing the interview again made me chuckle.
Now the White Sox are talking about moving out of Chicago or selling the team
Where would they go? Vegas?
More than likely a suburb, like the Bears are talking about doing. The owner is shitty and like, 90 years old, so realistically he might just sell the team (which would be better for everyone. He should also sell the Bulls)
As a side note, I'd sure love to know what the Cubs did to piss off the Rangers. I assume that's why they got swept by the Brewers and followed it up by blowing a save to the Diamondbacks
The White Sox would stay in Chicagoland, this is a stadium grift just like always….and I want to say Reinsdorf has already gotten a shit ton of public money that has just resulted in moving from a historic stadium to a soulless corporate dungeon

This is how I know I haven't been paying attention to things in a while, because I read all this news and then look at the standings and all I think is it seems like a pretty significant blowup for a team that a) still has a full month to play (obviously won't help in terms of contention/playoffs but still) and b) still isn't last in its own division
After the trade deadline a couple players that got traded immediately went out and were like "the white sox locker room is awful and team leadership doesn't care." They've also massively underperformed when thoughts were that they'd easily win this division a few years in a row

They won all those games though so it’s only a half Tungsten.
yeah, well the Mariners won all four of those games so it doesn't exactly apply
I don't think these are in the same category, really
That number still seems low somehow.
The Friday game was wild. The M's went zero for 17 with runners in scoring position (but won 2-0 on a couple of solo HRs)

That last video is insane.

Cal was probably out there just gesturing in a 'I dunno, man, serve it up' manner around 40+ or so.
