Highlighted the edges pink in hopes of a nice orange shade when I went over with the yellow. I didn't push it quite hard enough but still am quite pleased with the result.
Ooooh excellent work that looks downright painterly
looks just as good as the dreadnauts

I finally finished my Orktober project, sadly I missed my deadline since it's now November.... Anyway, here's the big Megaboss himself. Really fun miniature to paint, he has a lot of character.
I never finish anything.
Partially because I tend to get carried away. Tonight with yellow. Really overdid it.
The more I look at it the less I like it
There's yellow in that?

I'm having a crisis of faith. I haven't really painted much in several years aside from a few characters here and there. I bought the new SM codex yesterday and then just was not interested in it at all.
I think I'm tired of 40k, and Imperial Fists. I had finished almost an entire company of oldMarine models, then painted my first Primaris, and just couldn't stand to look at the old ones anymore because the Primaris just looked so much better.
But I think I'm burnt out on painting in general. I've been painting D&D models and it just feels like such a chore. I'm struggling to finish a friend's PC mini now. It doesn't help that 4 out of the 6 players wanted me to paint their minis, and then extra versions.
I have painted all of these for my IF, and I want an entire painted army, but I'm ready for something different, and circumstances amounted to me painting the same army twice.
Also, I still have models from Dark Imperium, Strike Force Agastus, Indomitus and all of Leviathan to paint.

There's no shame in this.
The smartest thing I've done, hobby-wise, has been to step away from the constant churn of modern Warhammer. Whether it's a passion project, trying a new system that doesn't have all the baggage, trying some new painting techniques, or just grabbing a mini from my collection (or printing a new one) that speaks to me, I only do things I can enjoy without stress. I also give myself permission to shelve them if it ever becomes a chore (looking at you, Middle-Earth Balrog) with no guilt.
It doesn't get armies painted but this shit moves too fast these days and time is far too precious to spend it miserable.
So, those of you who may remember me know that I don't really enjoy painting.... but, I've done a thing while I've been away....
These are in no particular order, but I'm sure you can tell what my earlier stuff is vs my newer stuff just based on quality. This was completed over the last year or so
The following people are amazing and I love them: Wildcat, Timspork, Kias, Denada, susan, Sharp101, [GHSC]Ryctor, Matev, Matrias, ItBurns, Slapnuts, Dayspring, see317, and the unknown poster that sent me a box of Death Company! If you get them as Santees you should buy them amazing things!

I've never painted a full army for anything beyond skirmish size because I'd much rather paint 10 entirely unique characters with distinct color schemes than batch paint a squad, so I might not be the one to give advice
but I think the weight of having a pile of unpainted models that you feel obligated to paint and "wanting" a painted army that you've painted once already would be crippling for most people's motivation. Turning your hobby into an obligation and fixating on a goal that you're not excited about as anything more than a goal is a bad recipe.

I burn out on a regular basis and need to step away and do something else for a few weeks/months. Like recently after the summer this year, I had started painting a Seraphon army, and the big Slann was, while a very cool and fun model, also a LOT of work which kinda burned me out. I started doing some skinks but then I totally ran out of steam and stepped away from all hobbying for about a month.
Sometimes I can just do something else - paint some terrain, build some orks, anything that is different from what I was doing, but that doesn't always help, sometimes I need a complete break and instead I redecorated my older son's room and played Zelda TOtK with my younger son. Now I'm starting to feel the hobby itch again - maybe not for the Seraphon - but I did paint an Ork, and now I'm building some Frostgrave terrain, but I've been in the game long enough to know that eventually I will return to the Seraphon again. Building an army is a multi-year undertaking for me (hell, I started my Orks back in 2014, and they are not done yet even though I have maybe around 3000 points by now), there simply is no way to force it.
Also, when it comes to the mountain of unpainted models - I simply have so much now that probably even if I paint every day for the rest of my life I will not be able to finish off everything I have in my cupboard. Which is a freedom in itself I guess and it makes me feel a little less obligated. It also gives me the freedom to find something fun occasionally that I had forgotten that I'd bought, and get me back into the hobby after a slump.
The main thing is that hobby burnout is both common and natural, and the best cure is to try to release yourself from any obligations and do something else for a while. When you are ready, the urge will eventually bring you back.

My problem is that I have been trying to come up with an army list to paint to, then in the future add things that may need to be rotated in. But the rules keep changing faster than I can keep up with. Plus I'm having issues with how things interact. So I was just painting HQ models. I probably would be okay with painting some vehicles and heavy intercessors, one more Aggressor to make a squad of 6, and then I don't know.
If I could make a decent list, I'd paint that, then relax a bit.

Yes I totally get that - I'm a slow painter and I cannot paint fast enough to chase the meta either. I've been in the same situation, building a target list and then there is a new edition or a new codex or maybe even a points update and that list becomes rubbish. I don't have a solution for that, I've been ok because both my Ork and Necron collections are large enough now that I am capable to put together at least a decent list at most times, maybe only needing a new character or small unit. But with Space Marines I can feel your pain, there are sooo many units that it is virtually impossible to have everything on hand when needed. I don't quite know how to solve that - I agree that GW's pace has been too fast these past years, 9th especially was crazy, but I also have the impression that it is slowing down at least a little bit with 10th.

Thank goodness for an airbrush. It's 55f and rainy outside and I can still knock out a vehicle and a dozen troops primed in like 20ish minutes no problem.
My problem with painting is work and how it effects me. As I am often too tired and sore to do anything on my weekend. As I really do force myself to paint something. Even if it's just base coats.

I started messing around with the speed paint metallics that came in that 2.0 set I got a while back. I like them. I like them a lot. They are very enjoyable to use. I even just now ordered the rest of the metallics.

Hey painting thread! It's been years since I've been around, but I painted my first gunpla recently. No airbrush so it done by hand. Here are some before and afters

Honestly I'd probably do this if I ever get any more. I masked both of mine and while they look good, it was so much fucking work.
Instead of black though, do like a reflective gold like Nasa visors.

Thanks! The photos make it look a bit better than it looks in real life but I’m still very happy with it.

oh, no. Not 4 armies. D&D minis. Single models. I only have one left.

Why does his hat say Wizz spelled out in sequins? Shut up, that's why.
Where did he get a DeWalt chainsaw? None of your business.
Is he an official GW model from 1987? You better believe it. This model could feasibly have its own children now.
