My headcanon is that Nero is a moral, upstanding individual, who only pretends to have ulterior motives to put Cid on edge because he thinks it’s funny.
I actually did go and clean up my inventory…once. I figure I’m not due again for another couple of expansions.

Been experimenting with Heaven on High. Even with +75 Aetherpool, once you hit floor 60 the mob damage is so high that DPS die to a double pull without the rejuv potions. Not sure I really like a design decision of "go farm potshards so you can get potions so you can get to the top half of the tower"

Still more forgiving than Eureka Orthos. Basically everything one-shots you with mechanics in there past 30.
the way i think about crafting materials is this: if i need it later, i can just buy it again, right? maybe i'll have "lost" a little money in the market shifts but i can just consider that the fee for the safety deposit box.

I'd say EO is more forgiving, if anything. It's designed to be handled in a similar way as raids, where most enemies later on have mechanics that will kill flatly you if you get hit by them, but once you learn what they are they are very avoidable. Aside from some very esoteric interactions(like how snakes in PotD instantly kill you if you're a frog) PotD/HoH primarily just have very bloated enemy stats towards the end that you have no choice but to interact with because it's mostly big autoattack damage, etc.
Watched a Nest video on the final Savage fight in the current raid. By the time they got their kill they were all on the verge of insanity and I don't blame 'em with all these mechanics.
Too many people don't bother looking at the sell value of an item before listing it on the market for less than what they would get from a vendor.
The first step in my inventory cleanup is vendoring anything that can be vendored. I'm not doing market research when I'm trying to heal from a hoarding addiction.
The only exception is red materia from the latest expansion.
Oh, ocean fishing 50 tomes!! Yeah i haven't done this in awhile lets go!
Run a fishing expedition.
Come back.
Hey i did it what's the.... eight THOUSAND points? I got 3k.. god damnit.
Man i dont know how ot fish, i got goblin eyes on me, i have no idea what that means. Just reward me for fishing you monsters...
There's a few things to Ocean fishing:
1. Go for the spectral fish at each area. Catching it can trigger the spectral current event, which is where you get the vast majority of your points. Don't spend too much GP on normal currents. Patience II can be good for stacking up Angler's Art for Thaliak's Favor during a spectral, but otherwise, just use Chum to avoid GP capping.
2. Find out which fish in a spectral current will give you the most points for triple hooking (some fish give you 7 for triple hooking). Identical Cast and Prize Catch are really useful here.
3. Make sure to complete your voyage missions.
There's also intuition fish (which is what the "goblin eyes" were referring to), but those are more for completing your fishing log, rather than a good source of points.

All of this, plus make liberal use of double and triple hooking. If you catch a high point fish, you can then use identical cast to make sure you get another of the same type, and then use your multiple hook to snag them.
As a non-fisher,
I use a versatile lure and throw my level 30 fishing rod in the ocean and press a catch button when exclamation points show up and admire pretty lights and dolphins that show up for some reason

I bet you only caught Magicarps in Pokemon 😏
You know, funny thing. Fishing isn't in the newest games at all.
Shows you which routes are coming up, which bait to use where, which fish offer the most points for your double/triple hooks and has guides and handy macros for the achievement routes.

I have literally never seen a form of fishing like FF14 where I can read entire posts explaining it and still have no goddamn idea what any of it means. I do fishing stuff in lots of JRPGs, it's just literally a whole Job in this game!
Fishing, even more so than crafting jobs, feels like an elaborate minefield of traps and pitfalls set up to trick you into wasting your GP on inefficient courses of action. I've never truly been able to distinguish between the abilities that are always bad and the abilities which are bad unless used in a specific ritual in a specific context half-described in ancient, faded scrolls written in a long-dead language.

I made a bunch of gil off gathering in the first few weeks of Endwalker and was able to make my own food and pots for the first tier of Savage, but that's where it ended.
I kinda get ocean fishing, but what I don't get is what to do when you get the Mystery Messages. Like. What bait do I change to?? i don't know.
The spreadsheet that Zython linked has that info for you! It’s a little hard to parse when you don’t know what you’re looking for though. It’s the entries at the bottom of each route, with the blue fish symbol next to it. When you get the weird message , switch to that bait and (hopefully) you can snag the special fish

It’s ok to miss the mark there. Goku’s Vegeta was like his 5th Vegeta.

(10 retainers, two saddlebags, and I still pack rat with the best of them.)
When Dawntrail drops the next level cap I'll just work on the gathering quests before the crafting quests.

Ah, excellent! This means I can get the Valentione's Day quest done and still not renew my sub until closer to March.

This spreadsheet has information about all of the fish. Basically, you want to use the bait in the blue box for that fish, and it takes that number of seconds to bite (chum makes it 40% faster).

It's got that gambling dopamine hit feeling, but the only thing you lose on a bad roll is time.
