Also as someone who has watched this movie over and over again for 11 years, it's an incredible reminder how much Miz's acting really leveled up once he and Maryse got "Miz & Mrs."

If traditional strong style can be described as a game of chicken where both wrestlers start with a feeling out process before escalating into throws and submissions leading to the more desperate competitor to take up striking then "sports entertainment" traditionally follows this formula.
Babyface gets the shine right out of the gate to either establish them as a flashy star to get behind or an underdog who is having little effect on a monster heel.
Heel gets the heat.
Heel gets the heat for probably too long as the beat down is extended. This is extra formulaic in tag matches where one person "plays Ricky Morton" in the face in peril act.
Hope spot. This is a comeback, often the five moves of doom
(optional) dub spot. Either the comeback is shut down or the comeback was all a burst of adrenaline just barely keeping the underdog standing. Now they're both down.
False finishes leading to the finish or if this is like half the matches on NXT these days somebody just interferes completely invalidating all previous steps.
The benefit of this format is that big epic matches feel even more dramatic. The drawback is that midcard matches feel even more formulaic.
Just once, I want to see the heel team get the hot tag.
At first I thought they were riding AEW trends with a Taz video on his return and a match at Hammerstein, but now it just feels like ECW week for some reason.
NJPW is reporting that Great OKhan suffered some sort of back/side injury at the last NJPW show and thus has been pulled from his match against Danshoku Dieno at DDT Ultimate Party as, at the very least, a precaution.
Hopefully it's not a serious injury that should affect his availability for Wrestle Kingdom/Dynasty. I hope it's just to give him as much rest as possible, as 9 days of rest is better than 7 days of rest, and if they had to choose, it's way easier to pull him from a match at a non-NJPW show.
With all the video libraries they own, there's basically no reason NOT to lean into it and put up stuff that nobody else can upload
I wish they would upload more stuff that's also not on Peacock or something they regularly release. The latest video I posted is one such thing and they released that old Omni show which was only ever in the vault, but I'd love for more of the weird territory stuff they own that's never been released.
I assume they see this as like a loss leader to get people to sign up for Peacock/WWE Network?
I don't think it costs them anything, and probably makes money since they're getting youtube ad money. Now that they don't have their own streaming service, I don't think anybody else is going to want to store all the stuff they have in the back catalog that doesn't get watched much.
This may or may not be Wrestlemas Day 4. WWE Vault uploaded Rey vs Juvi 2/3 falls match I watched earlier this year that instantly made the list of my top 50 mat hes of all time. A masterclass in lucha high flying these two with some hardcore brawling mixed in. Phenomenal match. Think I want yo find stuff from not a channel everybody knows.
My friend who doesn't really watch wrestling and certainly hasn't paid attention in years is at the WWE house show with his family (it's more for his young cousins)
Here's Jimmy Jacobs vs. Jon Moxley from DG USA in an I Quit match for Day 4 of Wrestlemas. Jimmy Jacobs has always been overshadowed by Alex Shelley, having a much smaller build, and never really getting the spotlight, but he is responsible for a good amount of iconic moments and that's jus the work he did on screen and ignoring stuff he did behind the screen. I think the funniest thing, is that Jacobs is tiny, but he has never been a high flyer and his specialty has generally been being a bloody brawler and obviously he's a guy who can take a beating and knows how to time a comeback and sell everything. He was always one of the better talkers on the indies, which he kind of had to be to make up for his size and just is always a pleasure to watch.
Moxley controls the match, and Jacobs has amazing comeback sections including locking in a front facelock with his hands in handcuffs behind his back. Jacobs cuts a promo after the match and his face is just covered in blood as is all of his hair, fucking crazy.
Jacobs was in my favorite match I'd ever seen live from RoH against BJ Whitmer and Bryan Danielson in an elimination match in Detroit where the crowd fully believed that Jimmy Jacobs could pull off the win. It's a great match and I don't think one that gets a whole lot of shine, but you should go watch it if you can find it or are subscribed to Honor Club.
I think rookie Toni Storm is 3-0 now since joining AEW. She could have a bright future ahead of her. Wonder if she'll have an undefeated streak like Hook or Cargil?

I mean, in terms of actual star power and global recognition, Paul vs Cena probably is one of the bigger matches they could and probably should do. Wrestling is not above celebrity bullshit to pop a rating.

It would be way better than Cena's last Mania match against Austin Theory. Paul doesn't make sense as he's a part timer, though.
You've got to highlight a young guy; Orton, Cena's best friend; Punk, his best rival still in the company.
How about this pitch for a Cena WM match: Miz finally kicks out of the AA and goes over clean, his increased confidence leading to another world title reign as he reminds Roman he's actually starred in several movies, not just made cameos. Also Logan Paul gets fired in there somewhere.
