The first game burned me with how bad the setup was for assimilation protocol in GFL1. Generally, once you add in not so friendly gacha, where the F2P is going to miss out on getting some units because they aren't ponying money up for things. The worst thing you can do is have a mechanic that forces them to have to do draws about every 3 days to maximize the number of pulls they get. So we got to be reminded of how bad and unfun our luck is. I find Gacha's more tolerable, when I'm allowed to spend time building up resources pulling for something I want. Yeah, it sucks if I can't guarantee that unit and had spent a ton of premium currency, I'm also not doing pulls on a near constantly basis and feeling like shit, when all those rolls roll like shit.
As for the sequel, it doesn't appeal to me for the same reason that Nikke doesn't appeal. Maybe it's just me but it feels like it has way more fanservice than the first game and on par with Nikke and really that kind of content doesn't appeal to me. It's also part of the reason that I fell off of Azur Lane.
I guess nobody else here is playing Girls Frontline 2? I'm a bit surprised, would have thought anime XCOM is pretty good selling point.
I've been having tons of fun with it so far and for once I've been moderately lucky as well, got a bunch of pre-pity SSRs despite the game having same rates as Hoyo games do. 0.6% rate, soft pity, hard pity and 50/50 -> guarantee feels like an industry standard at this point. Next banner tomorrow and I have 100+ pulls to throw at it so hopefully I get Makiatto.

Just hit 40 today. My pulls have been really, really bad, as I've pulled multiple copies of Vepley and zero copies of the two S tier units that actually make the game playable. Slogging through with a bunch of SRs while my V1 Suomi makes them almost immortal. At least they give you a maxed Lotta with a maxed weapon, she's 'carrying' me right now.
I tend to think of myself as a high level degenerate, I just stay awkwardly quiet 99.9% of the time people are talking about something in a game or anime being gross or too much, but I can't handle Nikke.
Obviously there's nothing wrong with it, but it somehow pulls off the trench run and bombs my shriveled shame receptors through the exhaust port.

406539. I've had the complete opposite luck and got Qiongjiu and Tololo early. Suomi for making the team immortal and even more support and it's been easy mode for most stuff. I uh... have no idea how you're expected to survive without Suomi giving you 50%+ HP in shields every couple turns though, it's insane. Lotta's been pretty solid as a free unit though - being able to blow up an area and then shoot after to trigger support fire and such is nice, she's been the 4th slot for me since I maxed her out.
To be clear, not judging people for liking NIkke or other over the top fanservice games. Others are free to enjoy those games if that's what floats their boat, those just aren't my cup of tea. Not that I have time for another gacha game either, HSR and ZZZ feel like they'll be more than enough to keep me buys without preventing me from doing other things.
not to argue but just to give my pitch for why i like nikke and am not loving gfl2, which no one asked for, but i wanted to type:
nikke's strongest point is that it has actually great writing and really endearing characters. which also, yes, are hot anime girls that fawn over you. which rocks. horny tech has never reached such heights. but their designs are also great- they clearly communicate the character and why they are cool (or not cool, w/e). it also has a lot of great music and really high-effort events and minigames and new features and cool shit all around.
i played GFL1 for a long time off and on before finally giving up because i didnt like the writing or the gameplay at all lol. and sadly GFL2 feels the same. my opinion: Incoherent aesthetics and plot, meaningless jargon provided without context, pacing where the writers seem to think every new scene is a mic drop, always acting as if they've earned some gravitas, and assumng that i'm connected to characters that they haven't done any work to get me attached to.
also, seeing the girls in full motion is rough, because anime cuteness is generally about omitting detail and leaving very plain textures on the character's skin and face in particular, and against the high-res gritty military stuff around them it's really jarring. like it looks absurd. this is a problem a little bit in nikke too but their art direction is significantly more competent and coherent, and they bypass the ridiculousness of the characters doing combat stuff in their lingerie outfits by not showing them doing it. the GFL2 military stuff just doesnt work with the cute stuff as well. is your girl in rugged combat gear or does she have dumb not-cat-ear headphones? neither? come on. I feel like GFL1 was more consistently militaristic in theme and that was cool. But I didnt see much of GFL2 before I gave up.
I will make Big Herta work without Jade regardless of how much worse it will be. Himeko or Serval will have to do until they released another 5* star erudition.
As much as team big hat would rock I gotta keep my account free from IPC influence!

Yeah, I like NIKKE's writing pretty much but I do also understand how people can find it too fanservice-y. The second anniversary event's story, Old Tales, is a good example of this. The story was the latest piece focused on the big war set a hundred years ago that led to a lot of the serious issues dealt with in the game's present day. It was a good plot, but there were quite a few characters in the story where the term 'stripperrific' can certainly apply to.
Nikke looks great, I love all the dumb bullshit like the April Fools characters or the one girl who just wants to install DOOM on everything. I just have no interest in playing that type of game.
GFL2 does seem to assume you've played all their previous games and already care about the characters, but now that I've finished the current story I'm mostly caught up and fairly invested.
I wish Star Rail would give me a 'you must have bought one of these teams to participate seriously' readouts for endgame content the way HI3 does. It makes it so much easier to adjust expectations.
Instead I go through however long playing, reach the one actual challenge of the game mode at the very end, and it's a completely impassible brick wall.
In this case, Kafka burns down Acheron with laser focus fire every attempt (I guess there's an aggro system based on damage in this game, which makes hypercarry characters like Acheron seem questionable?)
I'm not sure why I touched the stove this time, I've gone months without making the mistake of touching SU or any of the others.
edit: On like the 15th attempt the scepter ult thing started triggering repeatedly and mowing down entire phases when it went off, netting me a trivial victory? Not looking a gift horse in the mouth...

No, there is not an aggro/threat system related to damage dealt in Star Rail. Different paths have very slight differences in aggro value (IIRC, the default aggro value for a character is 5, and Destruction/Preservation has an aggro value of 6, and I think Abundance has an aggro value of 4). Beyond that, there are very few things that modify aggro value: Gepard's innate, Lynx skill, Clara Ultimate, and a couple specific LCs.
A few enemies have lock on mechanics, that cause multiple enemies to focus one target, but those are usually pretty apparent. Otherwise, if one of your characters gets focused down, that's probably just bad luck.
Edit: Memory of Chaos, Pure Fiction, and Apocalyptic Shadow do have a feature that shows you what teams your friends are clearing with, if that's what you mean in the first paragraph?

thanks for reading my booby girl thesis
this is an insane thermonuclear take to me in that you think "cat ear headphones" are some sort of aesthetic dealbreaker when nikkes have base skins that are just bunny girl suits, cheerleader outfits, school girl outfits, workout wear, and what have you, and they are deployed in combat on screen as such??
i don't play nikke so i won't comment on story/writing at all but if you're referring to cutscenes where nikkes aren't shown in their lingerie outfits i would also have to call bullshit cause i once watched my friend stream an event cutscene where a Nikke is just wearing a single piece of fabric and using its magic powers to dunk on an enemy boss
like it's fine if you like one gacha and don't like another for whatever personal reason but that seems crazy that you would bring up aesthetic to praise Nikke and then complain about GFL/GFL2 in the same breath
I used to play Destiny Child, so I know that Shift Up is capable of great characters and writing, it's just very hard to enjoy that with how combat is intended to showcase jiggle physics taken to 11 and the fandom in general baying for blood if any characters are added that don't have let them stare at their ass, looking right at that Chainsaw Man collab.
FGO Lost Belt 7 drops tommorrow; unfortunately I slacked hella hard in that game and have yet to even start LB 6.5
Oh well, not like the spider is going anywhere, maybe this will be the push I need to actually catch up on that game's story
I haven't done Traum yet either. I do hope there's no sudden raid farming mechanic like there was when the end of Part 1 was also on Christmas a few years ago.
The notes for NIKKE's next big patch came out and it clarified that the new Over-Spec sub-faction will be allowed to fight in the unit's original faction battle-tower as well as the Pilgrim one.
So unless Rapi's SSR-alt's kit turns out bad, that kills off another fan-joke/meme in the Elysion Tower being the worst tower to gain progress in due to the general state of the faction's units.

There is... technically a raid? But it's a single player raid using your own servants, kinda like a tower event (which is why they recommended you level up as many servants as possible for LB7), and I'm pretty sure that onnly matters when the LB7 part 2 time lock gets here
iirc from the JP launch the only thing you miss out on from not doing the entire available story day 1 is a random easter egg line where a character says "merry christmas" or something

So nothing like putting the fear of Guda in Barbatos then? That's fine, I can wait to do it.
Making a number incrementally bigger tickles the correct part of my brain as designed, but to hold my interest for more than a few hours I need some level of pre existing give a shit. No amount of anime waifus do it for me, pretty much only licensed ones can hold my attention.
Over the last year I've drifted between three:
40k Tacticus: the monetization seems a lot worse than it actually is. You're immediately offered $40 and $80 campaign unlocks, but those same campaigns unlock for free when you get several of the characters featured in them (and those characters generally unlock in a previous campaign). So that $60 necrons campaign looks awful, but then you unlock 3 fairly easy characters and it's free. However there's a nasty gear wall I didn't have it in me to surmount. Every progression system is interlinked so you can't progress stars without gear, gear without levels, and levels without stars. And then all three are also limited by your account level, which is based on total collection power and not experience, so even this is gated by the interlinked progress.
Star Trek Fleet Command: lasted about a week, eventually turned off because it was only giving me generic ships that don't actually exist anywhere else in canon and my give a shit ran out when I realized it was either a bunch of cash or several months before I got a ship that looked like Star Trek and not Generic Space Game.
Marvel Strike Force: my current brain tickle. Monetized quite aggressively with 2-4 new characters every month but tempered with a system where you're almost guaranteed to unlock any that aren't epic, legendary, or mythic the following month. Also, each month's set of new characters is also blunted by several old characters being buffed up to catch up with power creep, and the game absolutely showers you in obsolete characters so you already have these sitting at the bottom of your roster.
Downside here that has me looking for a new game is that the devs clearly have great ideas, but don't know how to implement them.
So of course in a gacha there will be power creep. They want you spending or engaging for the new hotness even though you have 7 star tier 20 level 100 awakened ultra mythic ssr 3 diamond characters built up.
MSF doesn't just want to make the numbers bigger because that's boring. So kits gradually got more complex in an era called the "buff meta."
This hit critical mass when every team had every buff and every debuff plus buff stripping and debuff flipping (none of which mattered because they also have protection from all of the above) and every character gave a boost to their team's stats and...
So the buff meta gave way to the speed meta. Teams with passive speed boosts, then more and more extreme speed bar filling support until teams just got turns and turns and turns and could overwhelm or outrun all those buffs.
This got carried away, so then comes the first of a long series of teams with a support power that just says "no speed stuff" and shuts this down. But this returns the buff problem where some teams are basically immortal.
So the devs kind of admitted defeat a few months ago and hit the magic reset button. They moved to a new "stat meta" where characters had simpler kits but much higher raw stats, letting them go toe to toe with buff meta and speed meta teams just on raw power (not enough to completely invalidate those teams, but enough to even the playing field without escalating the buff war).
But making numbers bigger is boring and the devs have "ideas" so this lasted about four months before it just circled the fuck around to the original problem again.
I went back and tried the new PF with the second tier DPS just to see how they do. Well, not Firefly still, though I'm sure she could fuel Himeko. My over-invested Kafka/Swan/Jiaoqiu team can beat par on the front side at about 33k, which ain't bad considering they really can only barely use any of the bonuses. I'm not sure if it was depressing or hilarious that the elite in wave 2/3 was basically perma-stacked at 50 arcana and it still only tickled it. An actual DoT PF they should be able to embarrass.
And base Argenti with Vanilla Tingyun and Pela on the back side just barely couldn't reach 30k par in my first try. Very certain Pela was a terrible pick there though and virtually anything would've been better, but especially Herta or Ruan Mei. He still did well enough considering it wasn't a phys weak side. Getting kind of tempted to look at Eagle stuff for him lately though seeing how goofy those full helicopter builds go. If I roll for THerta, that may be in the future, though man, I still don't really know if I even want either of the 3.0s.
I wish Star Rail would give me a 'you must have bought one of these teams to participate seriously' readouts for endgame content the way HI3 does. It makes it so much easier to adjust expectations.

Ah, damn it, self-inflicted wound. I forgot Lynx had aggro on her skill. So when Acheron is slightly squishier than the rest of my team and the most important character on my team...
Moving on to another gacha...the newest main chapter of ZZZ is simultaneously the most interesting that story's been by a wide margin and also very, very awkward. Feels like they really kicked it out the door in a hurry to get to the good stuff before people dropped off.
Made the 'everyone shows up' part feel a bit weak. Also a lot of little super awkward moments where things clunk into place for the next bit. Really feels like they intended to have a lot more content before this chapter landed, then decided they couldn't afford to wait?
I'm a little surprised to see how overtly supernatural Miyabi's whole deal seems to be. If she just had a mysterious maybe-ancient-tech sword, it'd be one thing, but then she goes and does her mega slash when all the power of that sword is unavailable to her. Until this chapter, if you'd asked me, I'd have said ZZZ was (very anime, very soft) sci-fi rather than urban fantasy.
But yeah, despite a few awkward bits all of it is interesting in a way the game's story hasn't been before for me, even before the stinger raised the question of what the Proxies even are.
I’d like to get into a Gacha but seemingly all the decent ones are all anime or anime adjacent in style, which isn’t my thing
There's some smaller ones that aren't anime style, like Wizardry gacha (can't remember its exact name). But most gachas make almost all of their money from CN, JP and KR so those regional tastes get to dictate what we get. And so anime it is, all the time.
Lol, I decided to make some bad decisions today, so I rolled for Executor in Arknights, because he is cool, and characters being cool should be the most important thing to consider when deciding whether to roll or not.
Instead of Executor, I got my very first Degenbrecher, which I failed to get during her event.
Similar situation happened recently when I was trying to get another man, when I was rolling for Ulpianus, and got three badass women instead, before he finally decided to show up.
Not sure how much stock I should put in the leak rumors, but I seeing one character I want. So if I don't get lucky with rolling for Fugue, probably skipping THerta, unless I happen to get a massive influx of jade and luck somewhere.
Im gonna skip THerta too, I have barely any characters that have good synergy with her, so I am gonna focus on getting Aglaea, which should be easier to build around.
oh man silverwolf is finally getting a rerun. I don't care if she is outdated, I'm still getting her
Oh god damn it, when? I have saved for Fugue/ big Herta and while I want Silver Wolf for the sake of it I don't want to skip them.
second half of 3.0
running 4 characters I want in the span of 3 banners might get me to top off(I'm getting a 25% raise baby), depends on how things shake up. I have quite a few pulls right now
I'm frankly iffy on her. She is unlikable as a character and I'm sure the devs did that intentionally, at least I hope they did. Sure AoE is a bit of weak point for me, when it's stuff that Archeron can't nuke and Himeko isn't that good against. Granted, Fugue will have some real value in boosting Himeko for AoE stuff that she excels at. Thing is, with time, I can probably get OG Herta, Serval and Qingque up high enough that they'll let me manage the gaps in teams for stuff that I need the AoE in.
What I'm waiting to see is if she'll be mostly a PF unit or be solid outside of that. If she is just mostly a PF unit, I'll definitely pass. Thinking I might want to go for Aglaea, but will see what the next new character or two looks like before rolling on her. If the rumors are true, probably out on THerta because that's going to be about 2-3 characters I want. One that I really want and bummed that I missed her. Another where I'm meh on the character, but her kit would enabled a fair bit and then Aglaea as the maybe one.
Hell, AoE issues might become less of an issue without me doing much to my actual roster. Seeing a fair number of players and content creators commenting on how they don't like the HP inflation that all the end game content has. HP inflation is probably a large factor in why my progress in end game is slowing down so much. Kind of feels like the complaints are hitting a peak where miHoYo might not be able to ignore the criticism. I also doubt this is just a sentiment held by the English speaking part of the fandom either.
If I have to sort them, I guess priority would be Herta>Silverwolf>>Lingsha, since I'm not at all concerned about endgame performance, I just want to run characters I like.

this is an insane thermonuclear take to me in that you think "cat ear headphones" are some sort of aesthetic dealbreaker when nikkes have base skins that are just bunny girl suits, cheerleader outfits, school girl outfits, workout wear, and what have you, and they are deployed in combat on screen as such??
i don't play nikke so i won't comment on story/writing at all but if you're referring to cutscenes where nikkes aren't shown in their lingerie outfits i would also have to call bullshit cause i once watched my friend stream an event cutscene where a Nikke is just wearing a single piece of fabric and using its magic powers to dunk on an enemy boss
like it's fine if you like one gacha and don't like another for whatever personal reason but that seems crazy that you would bring up aesthetic to praise Nikke and then complain about GFL/GFL2 in the same breath
Oh well, not like the spider is going anywhere, maybe this will be the push I need to actually catch up on that game's story
I haven't done Traum yet either. I do hope there's no sudden raid farming mechanic like there was when the end of Part 1 was also on Christmas a few years ago.
Let's Play Final Fantasy 'II' (Ch10 - 5/17/10)
There is... technically a raid? But it's a single player raid using your own servants, kinda like a tower event (which is why they recommended you level up as many servants as possible for LB7), and I'm pretty sure that onnly matters when the LB7 part 2 time lock gets here
iirc from the JP launch the only thing you miss out on from not doing the entire available story day 1 is a random easter egg line where a character says "merry christmas" or something
So nothing like putting the fear of Guda in Barbatos then? That's fine, I can wait to do it.
There's some smaller ones that aren't anime style, like Wizardry gacha (can't remember its exact name). But most gachas make almost all of their money from CN, JP and KR so those regional tastes get to dictate what we get. And so anime it is, all the time.
It rolled 3x into Atk%.
Oh god damn it, when? I have saved for Fugue/ big Herta and while I want Silver Wolf for the sake of it I don't want to skip them.
Instead of Executor, I got my very first Degenbrecher, which I failed to get during her event.
Similar situation happened recently when I was trying to get another man, when I was rolling for Ulpianus, and got three badass women instead, before he finally decided to show up.
It just keeps happening!
Not sure how much stock I should put in the leak rumors, but I seeing one character I want. So if I don't get lucky with rolling for Fugue, probably skipping THerta, unless I happen to get a massive influx of jade and luck somewhere.
second half of 3.0
running 4 characters I want in the span of 3 banners might get me to top off(I'm getting a 25% raise baby), depends on how things shake up.
