I kinda stopped participating in these threads, but since it’s the very last PA holiday forum, I think I’ll give it one more go

But I’m going to make a LOT of posts here in small doses throughout the holiday time

For now though, I want to give a special shoutout to Vanguard. His last few posts were among those pushing back hard on the few people being weirdly transphobic in the aftermath of the election, when I was too upset to say anything. Seeing him push back on that was really heartening for me in a very very dark moment.

And besides that, he was just always so cool. He had the most off the wall music tastes and easily beat me in terms of weird and obscure music tastes that I only wish I could keep up with. He was always one of my favorite people in [chat]

Anyway, he gets the special shoutout because he said he wasn’t coming to the new forum. I hope he changes his mind, but short of that, I hope he at least sees this and knows that I appreciate him.


And real quick @amateurhour : you’re getting a bigger post than this one, but briefly: you’ve always been good at making me laugh, now hurry up and finish your farm because I am so ready to be done with the outside world. 😸

I have a newfound appreciation for so many of y’all this year, given… well, <guestures wildly>. So I really appreciate everyone I’ve spent time talking to, who has reached out to me, who has helped in earnest with feedback, guidance, and expert advice on the new forum transition process. Honestly, there’s a million of you who I owe thanks to for contributions large and small. You all rule.

But I want to be succinct here and take a second to specifically say thank you to @Delzhand @Zonugal and @Dibbit for being there and being part of the transition team from day one, and generally being tireless compatriots in all of this. If we pull this off, it will be entirely because of the incredibly huge amount of hard work you’ve put in. Thank you.

I have lurked since I burned through pretty much the entire PA comic backlog in a day or three as it stood back in... 2003? Can't even recall properly other than I was most assuredly at work, trying to not laugh so hard someone might have called someone to take me somewhere for my own safety. Started with SE which I still appreciate with many molecules of my brainbox, but I did eventually gravitate to D&D primarily, thank you to everyone and in particular the regulars in D&D, you've been my news filter for awhile now. I've never @'d anyone outside Discord, am blanking on specific names off hand, and I have real fears that further efforts are going to cause something Important™ to spring a leak somewhere, but I'm pretty sure I would have gone nuts if not for your collective capacity to wade through all the gribbly news and make sense of it. Hopefully wherever we're headed will be just as neat.

Returning the shoutout to @Endless_Serpents The PbPs I played in Critical Failures over the last year (or more? Time is nebulous) were so much fun. I will strive to return the favor on the new forums and hope to run a PbP myself some day. Maybe even a 4E D&D PbP if I'm ambitious enough.

I haven't yet participated in the various threads regarding the change, but I do have thoughts. Properly articulating them is another matter entirely.

I want to thank @Hahnsoo1 for stepping into the admin role with such aplomb - much of the transition would be much more difficult, if not outright impossible without admin access. Also for bringing back Bro and So Raven at a time when I think a lot of us needed a boost.

@minor incident , @Dibbit , and @Zonugal for letting me step back from the broader questions of governance/moderation and focus on the tech, but also for continuing to make sure I'm not burning myself out.

@syndalis for really knocking down the earliest hurdles around development and setting us up for success

I also want to give a few general shoutouts:

1. The people who knew on day one that they were going to move to whatever successor popped up, just for the love of the forum
2. The people willing to give the new place a chance even if a vote or a policy or a decision doesn't align with what they wanted
3. The people that challenged the transition team and kept us from overstepping

I am serious about that last one, and I hope it doesn't seem like faux-magnanimity. There's always potential for a small group to think they've got a grasp of a situation, and people willing to dissent are fucking invaluable even when it gets a little heated. I know we lost and will lose some more people on the way, but those who have bowed out have left their mark on how we approach things.

I always enjoy @Endless_Serpents 's extremely creative play-by-consensus games. The incredible imagination (and art) that goes into them has always impressed me. I still remember Wreckage, and how he embedded a truly awesome song in a post about how my character scored a critical kill at a vital point — and I then recognized that music years later when it was used as the soundtrack to one of the best fights in John Wick 3. I'm glad to see you've decided to make the jump to the next place.

Anyone willing to run a forum game of anything gets a big hug of appreciation from me. @admanb for the most relaxing game of Mage Knight I think I'll ever experience (stretching a game out to one turn a day for months), @Steelhawk for various 5e campaigns, and @The Zombie Penguin for Fairy Adventures.

Other than my general "here to talk about games and chew bubblegum" demeanor, I appreciate the D&D movie thread contributors for introducing me to things I probably wouldn't have gone to see otherwise, and for encouraging me whenever I write up a rambling post about whatever I happen to catch in the theater that week.

Thank you to @Zonugal, @darunia106, @IronKnuckle, @The Lovely Bastard and everyone else who participates in the AniMenagerie/Counseling streams. These have been kicking for a long time now, and it's been great to have a consistent time and place to just hang out with cool people and consume a bunch of media I would otherwise never get to alone.

Thanks to @Raijin Quickfoot, @the cheat, and @agoaj for being Saintly! I stopped attending the family Christmas events when things locked down, and our finances are too tight to really indulge, so these were the only real Christmas gifts I've gotten in a long time. Everything's getting used basically every day, and making a big difference.

Thanks to @Kadoken, @ironsizide, @Hahnsoo1, @amateurhour, @Ringo, @Endless_Serpents and everyone else from that PbP game I can't currently look up because of all this holiday cheer, for RPGs over the years! This should also include @Dex Dynamo, @Nirya, @Radius, @Kinderparty and basically half of the wrestling thread as well, really. I'm struggling to remember any more ancient games, but @INeedNoSalt is in there somewhere.

It's been a while, but since we're wrapping things up here, thanks to @Rius, @Infidel, @Raiden333, @Bowen and anyone else I can't immediately recall for all the good parts of WoW Classic.
