Merry Christmas everyone! I don't usually participate much in the Holiday Forum but thanks for everything and especially the advice on the 3d printer, it was quite the hit with the kiddos and seems like it will be the proverbial 'gift that keeps on giving'
I don't know if I've ever bothered posting in one of these before, but since everything is ending I'm continuing to participate in regular events I have ignored before.
@Dex Dynamo@hailtothekale@Dyvim Tvar@Rorshach Kringle For always being the people to like or awesome my posts about indie wrestling in the wrestling threads. I might talk about AEW the most, but talking about the indies is always my favorite parts of those threads.
@Amateur_Hour I love a poster on an internet forum about videogames who is all about cutting off contact from technology to be a homesteader in the woods.
@Zonugal I love your determination in making list threads and I'll maybe do the one you posted this year, it's just so much stuff to list. I also love to see your takes in the media threads.
@localhjay no matter how much I argue with you in the UAP thread I had a lot of fun gaming with you on X-box and sometime when I'm less busy with my kid and can play more often we can jump into some games again.
@Raijin Quickfoot for running stuff like secret saints and like Zonugal somebody who's opinion I like to see in media threads, even if I'm not as into horror as you are.
@Sweeney Tom another of my favorite people to see talking about media and wrestling, even if they are often the person who also pays attention to media news and ends up being the one to bring the bad news of actors/directors/producers being shitty people, but it's important info to pass along.
Despite tying for last place big shout out to @Nirya and @ASimPerson for running the NCAA prediction contest.
Thanks to all of the new mods who have stepped up while admin disappeared and things got dicey. I appreciate you all. I want to say I'm sorry to @Hahnsoo1 for making issues in the politics threads, but I'm also not changing my stances so I can't guarantee there won't still be problems.
Everybody on the transition team is doing great work, I'm not going to tag them, because I'm sure they've got too much notifications and shit going on anyway.

Before I spend the weekend involved in a group murder mystery, let's appreciate some folks!
@Reynolds and @darunia106 help me put on our weekly anime and sci-fi TV discord server initiatives. Deeply appreciate them, especially when an anime comes on (let's give an example, oh, Black Lagoon) and I instead go clean my kitchen while they keep the fires going. I think we have fostered a nice little discord server and I value your efforts in helping me construct that.
@Cello, @miscellaneousinsanity, @Grey Ghost, and @The Lovely Bastard all join me for a weekly TV project (or a movie night as our schedules have only become harder to coordinate) and I continue to appreciate a weekly event that sprung up during COVID lockdown persisting into 2025. Our little squad has had ups and downs this past year, but we STILL have Gotham to finish in 2025!!
@minor incident, @Delzhand, @Dibbit, @syndalis, @Hahnsoo1, and @Echo for coming together to help discuss, design, and coordinate the new forum initiative. It's been a bumpy ride but I think we've managed to not steer the train off the tracks yet.
I suppose I'm one of the true "oldheads" of the forum; I've been here apparently since Febuary of 2004; back in the days when Gay marriage was a topic of debate and republicans (both paleo and neocon varieties) were open with their views. I can even recall a time when I had to carefully and calmly explain that conflating all christians with the fundamentalists was wholly inappropriate because that was the only version of it that they knew.
I've been here a very long time, but inspite of that... I don't know that I'm especially well respected or liked; I tend to hang around a handful of specific topics, I'm generally unapologetic in my views (some of which are even found to be correct in the long run despite how they may appear in the moment) and I haven't participated in most of the big social bits (the Phalli, the chat threads, the secret Santas or Pax). As such, I think I might be closer to being one of those minor reoccuring characters that shows up in tv shows; Like Morn from Quark's bar in Deepspace 9.... and as such I often times find I don't make strong connections with other people or think that I've had that kind of impact with them.
As such my list of appreciations is relatively small I suppose.
My First is to @CrazyP . The first time I saw him post (and in point of fact the only place I'd ever seen him post) was in the Ukraine threads where he made a bold choice to admit that he was russian and that he opposed the war. He also expressed discomfort with being labled "the good russian" which I can understand but it's a title that is worth having I think; that there are good people in russia who don't want anything to do with this conflict and that he can give us some perspective and insight into his homeland which he was able to mercifully get out of, fleeing to a neighboring country, a decision that I know wasn't easy for him on any level.
@Atomika Like I said last year you and I haven't always agreed on matters and have gotten heated at times to the point where it was dangerously close to getting the mods involved. But it's important to note that I honestly can't remember a time when you didn't have my respect and a (mostly) objective view of the state of DC's various projects particularly as they relate to the disaster that was the snyderverse.
@Forar You are the first and only forumer who I've met in real life after the fact; you were selling goodies at Fanexpo and it was a delight to find you there and just have confirmation that forumers are actual real, honest to god people.
@Incenjucar@Aegeri the two of you have both been long time posters in the various Dungeons and Dragons topics and I've appreciated both your support and insight when you posted there over the years.
Lastly, to those who came to discuss their thoughts and impressions on Arcane season 2 in the thread I made: Thank you. I don't create topics very often and I'd been concerned that It was just going to be me rambling about this show for which I was the only one who expressed any interest and had even decided to let it slip away after the third post with neither reaction nor response. It wasn't a super amazing thread with lots of likes and awesomes... but I honestly don't feel like it needed to be that; it was more about people commenting on how the show made them feel or what they thought and for me that was enough.
I don't know what Coin return will bring going forward, or even if I'll last as long there (I've seemingly run afoul of the mods more and more often over the past year), but I felt it worth my time to post all of this.

I want to thank all admin and mod staff, old and new, for keeping this place what it is. It’s the only online community I still visit regularly that does not make me want to throw up.
And also, the regular members. You’re all pretty swell.
Special shout out to the old Mario Kart 8 G&T tournament group. Fun times were had on many Sunday nights.

I don't know if I'm ingrained enough in the culture here to be able to adequately call out thanks by name, but I would like to be, so I'll give it a shot.
I always appreciate an Agree or Awesome and it's easy enough to appreciate a post as I read it and yet neglect to toss that little bit of kudos. So I especially appreciate those who remember to do so.
Getting a "bro" from @amateurhour gives a warm fuzzy.
@Atomika , getting agrees from you feels swell because I know you're a person of strong opinions and have no reservations about calling people out when they're wrong.
@Fencingsax it might be the sweet Launchpad avatar but I always notice your reactions, and I feel like you might be one of the most prolific reactors. You post a lot too, but it seems like you give kudos even more, and Confucious said it is better to Awesome than to post.

I've been the beneficiary of a tonne of goodwill and sage advice from folks around here over time, and despite the shock of the need to migrate, I for one am optimistic and looking forward to seeing the community that (re)forms on the other side.

Appreciation to the Phalla bunch for many, many good times. Huge and specific appreciation to @Infidel, @Rend, @Burnage and @MrBlarney who helped get me into my current career - I hope you enjoyed the documentary when it was posted here earlier in the year.
Appreciation to the TF2 Gang. I'm always a little sad when I see more folk go permanently offline in the Steam friends list. Massive and specific appreciation goes out to @Flippy_D, @jonxp, @deveric, @MrDelish, @Peewi and countless others.
Appreciation to the Europax gang, I hope you're all continuing to roam the earth.
Appreciation to those who drew, those who limed, those who were Bizarro Stormy and those who weren't. Appreciation to those who whittled, those who battled and Lewie P's mum.
Appreciation to the mods who looked after this place for 20 years, and taught so many of us how to cultivate a community that folks want to be part of for so long and beyond. Good luck to those who will transition to the next place.
Appreciation to the Enya Cali bunch who came here with me all those years ago - this was the last forum where we were all together.
I've seen families made here, and families broken. I've seen people declare intentions, and those intentions manifest into reality.
We said we'd change the world when we were kids, and I am delighted to see how we stuck to that dream.
@Atomika what can I even say? You’ve been a great friend even when I didn’t deserve it. I could write a full epithet on how awesome you are.
@Shivahn you always go on the list because you were so damn nice to me. I’m sorry because in hindsight I was really weird, but you pretty much rule. Thanks for engaging with me even though I was weird.
@Jacobkosh you’ve always been cool, I’m sorry there was so much drama about you this year. But to me, you’re awesome.

Two years ago he invited me to do a local marathon and hosted me! It's one of my favorite race memories, him and his wife were awesome hosts and good times were had!
Hell that was so awesome @Kyougu , you absolutely dominated that course and made the day so much more awesome by being here. Our doors are open any time!
Thanks to everyone that's hosted or played in the various PbPs in CF or elsewhere over the years.
They were, almost universally, good times, and they couldn't have happened without all of you.
And a special double thanks to all the hosts, who put in so much time and effort laying out the space of these games.
Even if the games fall away due to inactivity, or don't start, or cause me to self-destruct.
All your vast efforts are appreciated.
A really big thanks to the transition team, and everyone else involved in getting us from here to there.
Everything appears to be tracking well, from the outside, and I'm amazed by the amount of self-driven work that has been put in so far.
And lastly, thanks to everyone that's tolerated my soft-networking PMs over the past year.
I hope to chat more with cool people into the new year, rather than just posting.
We'll see how we go.
A big thanks to @minor incident , @Delzhand, @Zonugal, @syndalis, @Hahnsoo1, @Echo and all the others who are tirelessly working on getting the new forum running, and this includes all our testers and little sub-commitees, and all the people contributing and pitching in.
I'd like to do a special shoutout to @eichlan , without whom we wouldn't be able to do any of this, and even though they're "not active in the forums" provided great help just when we needed it. without them, not only would the transition be way bumpier, the changes to the current forum wouldn't have been possible.
It means a lot to me that there is so much interest in keeping this place going, as it has truelly become a second home on the internet for me, even if I don't post that much.
I don't have a great off-the-cuff memory for forum names (or even avatars), so there are definitely people I appreciate who aren't listed here. That said -
@Cambiata, @Atomika, @Gnizmo, @Lanz, and almost certainly others I'm missing for discussing LGBTQ+ issues/oppression with generally more patience than anyone has a right to ask from you.
Especially Lanz - your posts on serious topics make me angry sometimes, and I think that's mostly because they make me uncomfortable in ways I need to be made uncomfortable. So thank you, truly. Also for all the tanuki pictures
@AngelHedgie for regularly translating legal drama into English so the rest of us can laugh/cry/rage as appropriate.
@ahava for posting thoughtful and beautiful perspectives on pretty much every serious/sensitive topic you post about. You are a light.
@Jedoc for your dry, hilarious humor - I don't always get your jokes, but the ones I do get are brilliant, imho.
@Poorochondriac, who I'm aware probably won't see this, for your thoughtful analysis of games and other media (and your beautiful writing style); and for your perspectives, both as an Indigenous Cherokee and just as a really interesting person.
@Brolo for your tireless new releases posts in the videogames threads.
@smof for being an inspiration while somehow also being entirely relatable, and also a dinosaur.
@tynic for reminding me that brilliant people have impostor syndrome too, and that it's perfectly ok to blaze your own trail.
@Librarian's ghost for generally being a force for good and for sharing your stories. It sounds unavoidably trite, but your posts are often uplifting, and it's a good thing
@Darth Waiter, if you're still around, for being a hilarious storyteller and just generally a decent person.
All the job thread regulars for commiseration, support, funny/"funny" stories, and just generally reminding me that it's ok - and vitally important - to be human, even/especially when management would prefer we not.
And, of course, all the mods for the hard work of keeping this place mostly non-toxic. It's a hard job and I wouldn't want it.
@Banzai5150 For doing a Blood Bowl thing 8 million years ago that got me to actually start posting.
@Hahnsoo1 For doing so much to help the moderation of this place in such a short time. I cannot tell you how often I casually sing your praises simply for listening to perspectives outside your own.
@Death of Rats For doing his absolute best to make this place better through whatever actions he can take despite having so much on his plate.
Atomika what can I even say? You’ve been a great friend even when I didn’t deserve it. I could write a full epithet on how awesome you are.

@Gazing I saw this via my email and was like "who the fuck is Gazing???????" very pleased to log in and see that I recognize you (your secret identity is safe with me!!!)
Anyway it's ok to be weird! You're too hard on yourself
@urahonky I have a lot of fun chatting with you! Whenever I see a new SaGa game you're the first person I want to hear from about whether it should be on my radar or not.
@BahamutZERO for stepping in (up!) as a mod. Even though you only stuck around for a bit, it was a huge help and you showed real dedication. Nothing but respect. And by the same token, @Sterica for being rad as hell.
@minor incident you're an inspiration in a lot of ways. The work you've done community wise is beautiful, and hell, you've given me a bit of a pep talk on discord about our shared medicine issues. So thank you.
@Magell you gave me some great ideas during our vacation for places to go. My parents are just about useless for planning so that was a huge boon for us. And in general? Pretty cool dude.
@Brainleech as much as we beg and pester you to get a new job, I appreciate your posts. I was stuck in retail hell for thirty years, I hope you are free soon. You're a good dude, better than they deserve.
@Elvenshae a couple years back you sent us a stained glass ornament for my daughter. It's still her favorite ornament.
@Poorochondriac you're not here anymore but I hope you log in one more time before shutdown to see this. You're an incredible writer, and an even better person. I've learned a ton from you, whether it's the way you describe the weirdness of Pathologic 2, opening my eyes to life as a native American, or even just a glimpse into the world of TV writing, I always loved your posts. I hope for nothing but the best for you.

@Death of Rats For doing his absolute best to make this place better through whatever actions he can take despite having so much on his plate.
@Irredeemably Indecisive @smof @Weaver @credeiki @tzeentchling @King Riptor @Curly_Brace @ahava @Sterica And all the other regulars in the various incarnations of the queer thread for all the time you have spent gaying this play up. And to everyone else in our queer community in this tiny corner of the internet as well. I love all of you and there is nothing you can do about it!
@ASimPerson @Nirya For running the wonderful college football pick-ems
@Undead Scottsman @Commander Zoom @Shadowfire @Vixx @Wyborn @Magell @Munkus Beaver @mRahmani For @Gereg @Mancingtom For being awesome people that I mostly only know in a parasocial way but have brought a lot of joy into my life. If I had any idea how to better navigate social waters I would attempt to have it be anything else. Alas, I am entirely inept at that so I will leave it here.
@Endless_Serpents @Egos @Matev You three in particular have been a big help to my imagination when I was willing to take it.
@Gumpy @Assuran @Invictus @KetBra Viva Argentina!
@jdarksun @Erin The Red @Lucedes @Gizzy @Zombie Hero And everyone else, really, for making Phalla fun once I was ready to move on from the League of Legends thread.
@schuss @JPants @Casual Eddy @kime For being e-bros.
@Locus @Ardor The host and other reigning two-time champion of Phalla Royale deserve a nod as well, of course.
@Gazing I saw this via my email and was like "who the fuck is Gazing???????" very pleased to log in and see that I recognize you (your secret identity is safe with me!!!)
Anyway it's ok to be weird! You're too hard on yourself
@credeiki and @loserforhirex
Meeting you both was so cool! You’re both rad as hell!
@Lucedes also the same to you!
@Weaver damn it you’re cool as hell, and the Twin Peaks diner was your idea
@Tumin you’re just plain one of my favorite posters
@RiemannLives thanks again for the raspberry pi!
@Lanz always making sure to give us the reality check, and also levity. Your tanu posts are pure joy.
@Jedoc @Librarian's ghost
