Anybody else found with Beyond the Sword tht almost as soon as you get the civic slavery then suddenly a horde of barbarians will come ot to rape your cities and burn your women? I've sent out armies trying to find the source of these incursions before and I never do, it's like they ignore all other civilisations out there and make a beeline for me.

Barbarians just appear in spaces of the map that aren't explored. Sometimes they'll create cities, but that's rare, so trying to find the source of the barbarians is futile most of the time.
If anyone doesn't have this game yet is interested, check to see if you've got a Circuit City in your area. You can probably still pick up the vanilla game for 15 bucks. That's what I got it at. They've got Warlords and BTS at normal price, but if you can find the original boxed version (not too hard since most Circuit Citys never change their PC game stock) of just Civ IV then it's only 15. Pretty damn good deal.

I sorta suck, which is a shame since I've been playing these damn games since Civ II and yet I'm still learning new shit every day
do you have BTS
do you have BTS
Nah only vanilla
I want to pick up BTS soon, though
Also I've noticed that the Persians always seem to be doomed to fail, so I started a game as them. I could only get one city off the ground and another barely founded before a horrible siege of barbarians overwhelmed and raped my sad, shitty little empire.
Man, I don't remember how the Persians roll in vanilla, but in BTS they're pure bottled rape. As soon as you hook up horses you've got a cheap, devastating unit for early rushes and the economy to support just about anything you feel like conquering.

I've found the best starting races are the Indians for fast workers or the Chinese for their growth bonuses or whatever
But I'm not very warlike and suck at focussing my efforts on individual goals
I liked Rise of Legends though because the art direction and setting were fucking rad
Man, that is one of the couple of games I have bought at full price and really regretted. It looked really cool. And it was not a bad game, but at the time I had grown up on blizzard RTS' and not really played anything else. So that style of RTS just really turned me off for some reason. Of course I have since moved on to dawn of war and company of heroes, so maybe I will give it another shot sometime.
(Another game that I bought and hated that played the same was Empire at War)
Teefs, I am getting this game like, the same day I get home.
Unless I end up getting home late and feel sleepy.
Then I will get it the next day.

Does anyone else here love to play the Dutch? They're probably not that great for multiplayer, since they don't have any real early game advantages, but damn. If you plan it right, a post-levee Golden Age is something to behold. Plus you've got the potential for a moai/levee/iron works city for those high-seafood spots. Settle a few Great Generals there and crank out tons of high-experience warships.
Dammit, you people are going to make me start playing this again, aren't you?

I really like the dutch. They're my favorite to use when I'm trying to get cultural victories
They can also control the seas really easily once you gain ability to traverse oceans which allows you to snag some nice territory

All the nations are pretty great, you just have to realize what they're good at
but I think my mic is broken?
I liked Rise of Legends though because the art direction and setting were fucking rad
It's like a hella dumbed down, faster paced, real time civ
Cheaper wonders? And you can build them an age before anyone else? And you get a gold bonus from farms? Hell yeah.

Pulling out my copy now, you bastards. I must conquer those bastard Aztecs
I have never played Civ
I've had Warlords since forever, I was talking about BTS.
I have a metric fuckton of credit at Gamestop
Half price forges, a unit that never becomes obsolete and and early head-start down the road to Religion? Fuck yes, thanks.
