But what do the skill trees cover? Is Pyromancer just three trees of nukes and summons, or does it have some utility too?

Nevermind, just made a few alts to check things out, since I had apparently gimped my gadgeteer anyway.

Still think that Widget-spawning little dude is the man for me, even if I have to remake him.

So are there any trees or skills to avoid that seem less useful than the description does? I'm interested in becoming a Tinkerer, but it seems like the character that relies entirely on summonables is usually a little weaker than the alternative.

EDIT: Actually, the Crimsonate tree of the Bloodletter seems pretty damn awesome. Excuse me while I fiddle.

Ok, I can't log in atm, so I'll ask here.

I miss my Necro from D2 something fierce. I played a straight skele necro because having two dozen dudes doing your work is amazingly satisfying.

It's been said that every class has a summonable. However, I don't want to play a single summon class, I want an army to do my bidding.

Which class would I want to take a look at for this?

I would say the summoning tree in bloodletter. Your enemies corpses become these blood imp things. It's what my girlfriend is playing and appears to be straight necro pretty much.

I would definitely make a red-hand Bloodletter if I were you. You can have a max of 6 Bloodlings (Skeleton warriors) and 6 Blood Imps (Skeletal Mages) which makes a nice little army. You will also have access to some nuking/back abilities like Blood Boil (Corpse Explosion) as well as Blood Command (kind of like Corpse Explosion + Bone Spirit) and Blood Sleet, which is a nova like ability from what I can gather.

how fast is leveling in Mythos?

D2 fast, so i can make a character, and if i don't like it, i can whip up another one to a decent level quickly?

Not as fast as D2. In fact, I'd say it's about half as quick. It's one of my points of contention with the game right now. I think that if they upped the leveling speed, this game would be fucking amazingly good.

EDIT: To be fair, they did up the combat/leveling speed by *a lot* with the patch this past week. So, at least they are still looking at it.

    alright, so.

i'm playing a pyromancer, and i've stuck my first two points into the 'skill tier' thing. i figured i wanted to unlock the other tiers.

was this a bad choice. i feel like maybe i should have just stuck them into skills.

    anybody give me some advice?

Oh, I thought filling up a skill unlocked the next tier. This current "spend points solely to unlock tiers" is a little disappointing.

Soloing a five-person epic map is painful.

Specifically, rooms filled with Hollow Rogues screened by a wall of imps being constantly revived.

You did the right thing. Really, it depends on what build you want to go with, but you can never go wrong with putting points in the sidebar.

I agree with that. It'd be nice if there was some kind of stat bonus associated with spending points in the sidebar, so it feels like your character is actually becoming more powerful. Titan Quest did that, and I felt it had a very nice skill system.

So in about an hour of playing, and looking into the tree, a Red Hand Bloodletter I went from (yesterday) thinking "meh, it's ok, but I might as well be playing D2", to "hey FSS, please tell me where I can deposit my monies into your bank account pls. thx"

    So good.

    Aaaaaand then the game crashed.

In game as Slang, the Gremlin Gadgeteer.

So I get that Gadgeteers can invest in grenade-like attacks, rifle upgrades and turrets/widgets...what, basically, do the other classes cover?

Pyros are basically fire-based casters. Bloodletters are melee/magic hybrids (think of a cross between a Barbarian and a Necromancer in D2). Every class has some kind of summonable thus far.
Pyros have a melee tree, too. It has a few passives like +melee crit% or +atk with bonus fire damage and fire-based active melee attacks.

    so, i'm making a pyromancer.

so far, i've skilled up my tiers to 7 points, and i've decided to put 6 points into the colossus. i have 3 right now. once i get all the skills associated with my colossus (the rage, the increase of speed/damage/whatever), i'll probably start putting skills into direct damage spells, in the flamecaster tree

is this a good plan? i figure my colossus can tank, while i sit back and nuke/AoE.

if it's not, i can always just start putting skills elsewhere - i've only spent a grand total of 4 skill points on actual spells.

Well it's a beta, so the time to experiment would be now...just go with the skills that look appealing to you. Having a tank as part of your pyro build obviously sounds like a good idea, just make sure you drop at least 1 point into your damage spell(s) of choice so you have something to do besides watch your monster pet kill stuff. :)

My pyro is going with wisp summons to go with my damage spells cuz I just wanted to make more of a glass cannon. To each his own.

I hear that the Colossus is a fucking beast. So, I'm sure that whatever else you get will be sufficient.

Also, yeah I forgot about the melee-ish Pyromancer tree.

Once I went to a level 21 epic map.

You know the small area before the main dungeon? When you die there, you get sent back to the last town you were at, and you can't go back.

I just made a few steps, and there was a boss, and he just killed me in a split second and that was it.

    ...Yeah. Not so pleasant.
