Really nice. The metallic areas are looking good. I think it might be a trick of the camera or something, but all of your painted models look really grainy. Like all of your surfaces have some grit on them. Could just be that my eyes are going out on me, or is that intentional?

It's my camera and the flash. They look just fine otherwise. Could possibly be the texture of the pewter itself being exaggerated.

I figured it might be something like that. Regardless however, the model itself looks awesome. Are you going to put him in a Storm Knights list or maybe a sexy Darth Stryker shin-dig?

Good, good. The Stormclad being considered bad has always mystified me because it just sounds like it would be good if you use it to maximum effect. But then again, I'm the guy who suggested Marshalling a Charger over a Sentinel to the ATGM UA, so I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer.

On topic: Tried the method of drybrushing to figure out where highlights should be placed. I really like it, because if done carefully it can be pretty quick, renders a good look, and also requires minimal effort. Also I'm really starting to figure out hard-edge highlights, so yeah. Now to figure out paint blending and thinning!

I need to get a better white to even begin shading. Morrow White is HORRIBLE AND CHALKY. I'm thinking Bleached Bone.

I've recently decided that since there are no really true whites, to start using a 1:1 mix of bleached bone to skull white for highlighting over an area based in bleached bone, with straight skull white for the extreme highlights. Also, a tip I picked up from an issue of WD, is that you want to thin down your skull white and apply it in several coats to acheive a strong white without being chalky.

    Hope that helps!

Vallejo Ivory dude. It's like bleached bone+skull white but pre-mixed and with much better consistency.

I've really got to buy Vallejo paints man. They sound awesome.

Also, I've been hearing talk of "extender." Which I guess means it extends your paints dry time or something. What is it and what are you guys' impressions of it?

yeah its a tough decision because i hate scale mail, its the gayest looking armour of them all but I like the discipline of the high elves. on the other side having a crazed army of fear inducing trees and crazy accurate archers is pretty awesome

It kinda depends on which playstyle you prefer. Wood Elves are a hit-and-run, guerilla warfare game of disengagement. High Elves are still incredibly fragile, and, except for some units, don't do well in attrition, but they have awesome magical power, great items and units and can hit like a ton of bricks.

I tried thinning Morrow White out with some medium. It still looked and felt like ass. Watering it down didn't do a thing either. :/

Do it! Its the ideal way to use up all the wierd useless stuff in your bits box, and muck about with sculpting while not worrying about getting everything perfect.

Progress has been slow as ever. Nothing finished, but heres how I'm getting on.

Basing experiments. I'm gonna do some more of these. Snakebite does make an excellent first colour, cheers for that Lezta. I also discovered they have a colour called "desert yellow" now, and that seems to work quite well as a highlight:
    gm_wips1.jpg

    Work in progress grot:
    gm_wips2.jpg

Still adding bits to the cutters also, one of them now has headlamps. I'm gonna put a little crank on the mini generator just behind the figurehead, so someone has to wind furiously to keep them on :D:

Tech: Looking really nice. Really looking forward to see the result of this interesting piece. The bow of the "ship" is a nice touch, and the lamps on it will probably look great when painted. Edit: oh, and put some harpoons and explosives and shit on that thing :)

Spi, that thing looks epic. Very nice!

So this morning I grabbed my paints, and an Ork boy that I've had primered white, which was sitting on the desk for weeks... I used Goblin Green for the base, Scorpion Green for the highlight, and Thraka Green Wash.... I love it so much.

    White primer on Orks.. ftw!

Got my Gun Mage Captain Adept painted up today. I cannot sing the praises of Badab Black wash enough, because I used it on every painted part except for the little bit of gold and his cuffs. However, while painting the cuffs, I dropped the mini and the glued on left hand popped off. In some ways it was cool because it allowed me to do a better paint job. However, I realized that I left my super glue at the Bellevue Battle Bunker and I didn't really want to go buy more at the time. So, it's being held in my GMCA's army case slot.

No pictures at the moment, but hopefully (I know I say it a lot but for cereal this time) soon.

So finally getting some paint down on my gaurdsmen, painting up a test scheme. Dark flesh through to brown, cryx bane for the jacket and shadow grey for the pants. Too random? I guess it isnt very camo like. Still some details to fill in. Not to sure if I should add colours to the "plates" of armor they usually wear.

So after months of asking you guys questions, I finally got down to actually painting a few guys

I'm working on some Raven Guard space marines. Right now I have the whole mess primed, but only two tactical marines and an assault marine done (not nearly close to done by some standards, but good enough for now) and hope to have a tactical squad, a scout squad, and an assault marine squad done by this weekend.

I am stuck in a hotel now, but will try to get some pics up Thursday or Friday.

They will probably look like crap, but it is a really rewarding feeling to have minis that actually look like something, not just gray plastic
