Ollie reveals that he knew about Connor all along
    was pretty sad.

    Punisher: The End

    PART ONE!

    You see:

Over the course of the story, an aging Punisher and his companion escape from prison and into nuclear fallout in order to find the last traces of humanity left in bunkers. If all the devastation caused by full scale nuclear wasn't depressing enough, it gets much worse when he and his companion find the survivors.
When he awakens, he is told the radiation is killing him and his buddy.

Frank doesn't have much time. He kills the dudes guarding him, and the doctor that informed him he's dying.

What follows has to be one of the most brutal, merciless and utterly goddamned depressing things I've ever read:

    sadshit1.jpg
    sadshit2.jpg
    sadshit3.jpg

Punisher: The End isn't set in any explicitly stated universe. It is simply the conclusion of the idea of the Punisher, and what it would fully bring about if taken to the fullest extent. To that end, the Punisher is faced with his ultimate decision. THE ultimate decision:

    sadshit4.jpg
    sadshit5.jpg
    saddestshit.jpg
    sadshit7.jpg
    sadshit8.jpg
    sadshit9.jpg
    sadshit10.jpg

While Frank isn't exactly in the wrong for this, the ramifications for his actions are horrendous. After butchering them, what comes next is WORSE. IF THAT WERE SOMEHOW POSSIBLE.

    END OF PART ONE

    Punisher: The End

    PART TWO

The end of the story has to be one of the most heartbreaking things I've read in a comic book. There's no way to adequately state that this is only thing I've read that's made me well up a bit as I've read it.

It's a black-hearted monster drowning in the abysmal depths of man's inhumanity to man:

I can't remember the exact issue but it was an issue of Uncanny X-Men and a tie-in to the Onslaught storyline. The scene was basically an all-out battle against Onslaught where he finally revealed that he was independent of Xavier, which he demonstrates by opening his armor and revealing Xavier being tortured inside of him.
There's this one panel where it's half of Cyclop's face and he's totally pissed. All he says is "Take him", at which point Thor flies right the fuck through Onslaught, saving Xavier.

I specifically remember that scene bringing tears of joy to my eyes.

One I really loved took place at the very beginning, then the very end of 52.
At the start of 52, Booster Gold shows up at the memorial statues of Superboy/Superman in Metropolis, because Skeets, his robotic companion and personal historian, has told him that by doing so he'll meet the Justice League, and be invited into its ranks. It'll be the greatest Justice League of all time, and Jimmy Olsen will win a Pulitzer Prize for the photograph he takes of the historic event. Booster's understandably excited. He shows up and is all flash and bravado, and at just the right moment turns with a flourish to present-- nobody. The Justice League is running late. Everyone's turning to look at him like he just pissed on the Superboy statue. Growing more flustered by the second, as Skeets rattles off each minute as they pass by with the Justice League nowhere in sight, and all his fellow heroes turning their backs on him in disgust, Booster finally makes a grab for Olsen's camera, hysterically screaming something like, "Take the picture! Take the picture Olsen! This is your Howitzer!"

After the amazingly shitty time Booster had prior to and then during the Infinite Crisis, you just felt awful for the guy.

Then at the very end of the series, Skeets is preparing to sacrifice himself to save the megaverse and stop Mr. Mind. Booster protests, not wanting to lose yet another friend, but Skeets selflessly insists, "Michael, if I am to leave this world, let it be as a Pulitzer."

Booster sniffs and smiles, "That's Howitzer."

I may put up scans of this later when I'm not lazy.

Not really. The normal Goon comic is a goofy, the Three Stooges meet the Mob meets Lovecraft meets Dawn of the Dead kind of thing. It has its serious moments, but it's mostly upbeat and weird. Chinatown, to paraphrase the opening page, "ain't funny." It's much darker and sadder, and might not make a lot of sense if you haven't read the rest of it. The first trade is probably the best way to get into Goon.
