Trip to Vancouver.

Anybody interested in a pre-pax trip to Vancouver. It would be late Wednesday night or early Thursday if done. I'm hella interested in going there myself and my brosaurus is as well. We will probably go regardless but I'd thought I'd post see what kind of interest we had.

This is a determining factor in which plane tickets we will get. So try to respond in the next day or so. I know its late notice.

Don't get worried about not being back in time Thursday to do any pre-pax festivities, I wouldn't miss them.

    I'm totally in!

    I'll meet you here... >.>

P.S. - Brosaurus is a hilarious term that should never be used seriously outside of making fun of fratboys...

    P.P.S. - If you're a fratboy, I apologize.

    P.P.P.S - No I don't.

Yes you are "technically" right and he doesn't really fit the bill, he's tall and skinny and ginger. Which reminds me that he is currently for sale. He's good for all kinds of things and looks good in a wig. I accept cash monies or anything I would buy with said cash monies: boos, food, or prostitutes.

Anybody wanting their own personal ginger for Pax '08 needs to jump on it, seriously once in a lifetime offer.

Anything good to do in Vancouver anyway?

Wait, why do you want to go there, if you don't know if there's anything to do there?

edit: also, are you talking about Vancouver, Washington or Vancouver, BC?

Stop trying to sell me. We've already established there's no market.

But as my grammatically impaired friend suggested, road trip to Canada. Why you ask? Because I love John Candy, and by extension, Canadian Bacon. Film or food, both delicious. Also, road trips are inherently awesome.

Of course they're much better when you've got something to do when you get wherever you're going. Tr0tsky, you on the fo' realz about showing some of the local sites? Anyone else hyped?

Just by going to wikipedia or a vancouver tourism site, theres plenty of things we can and want to do there. I was merely asking what there was to do there in a sense of trying to get a local's take on what might be worth seeing.

For example Anheuser Busch in St. Louis attracts thousands of visitors, yet a locol would recommend visiting Schlafly(microbrewery) instead.

If you guys plan to hit up Vancouver, stop by and say hello. My store is in New Westminster (just outside of Vancouver) and I'll gladly open late if I know you're coming. Let me know what kind of stuff you guys are looking for in the Vancouver area and I can fill you in on the best of the best whether it's game stores, arcades, strip clubs, or just touristy stuff.

P.S. Looking forward to PAX this year.

Since it's a Wednesday/Thursday trip, I would just suggest hitting up the downtown core. Catching some rays at English Bay, maybe trying out Stanley Park. If you're into hiking or anything you can do the Grouse Grind. If you want to try some microbrewries, we have plenty of those too. An excellent joint downtown is Dix. Great beer!

You could then take the skytrain down to Gamedeals and he can hook you up with the local gaming scene. Good people there.

Hm. Am considering this, if the CCST falls through - I'd be travelling by plane from Ontario. I could stop in Vancouver, hook up with y'all, visit Vancouver (seriously my favourite city every), then head down to PAX.

If you guys do end up coming out and you're here in the morning, you *have* to go to The Elbow Room for breakfast. It's good times...as long as you don't offend easily.

    The Elbow Room

If anyone's coming to Van on Wednesday and heading down to Seattle on Thursday, you should join me (and others, hopefully) on the Greyhound Thursday morning (8:15 am or 10:50, undetermined yet).

I was going to drive, but I don't really want to sit at the border for 4+ hours each way. Plus, parking is absurdly expensive when you're going to be using your vehicle in the city anyway.

I am being pessimistic. The last couple of times I've gone down it's been absurd though. Remembrance Day weekend (?) I sat for 2 hours trying to get up to the turn into the Truck Crossing one before I said fuck it and went home. It would've been at least another hour or two to get through. That was mainly due to assholes trying to skip the line and merging in at the end though. I was there around 10 am and turned around about noon.

I got through quite quickly when I went down for Black Friday, but that's because it was 5 am when we got to the crossing. Coming back took us FIVE hours

Just so you understand, that's the #1 cause of accidents.

At low-speeds like toll-crossings and whatnot it's just annoying, but at any speed higher than a crawl, that's the single most dangerous common-engaged-in behaviour on the road.

Well, accidents are bad, but fuck late mergers. This is probably worse, but once I was approaching construction on I-5 that went down to one lane, and there were so many people late merging it was stopping traffic. So I put on my blinker like I was going to switch lanes, and drove in the middle of the two lanes so no one could get past me. Bastards.

damn now youre making me wonder if the canadian supertrip is worth it. i only got about a grand squirreled away for this.
i was just planning on parking at a hotel/wherever im staying (havent got that arranged yet because a buddy had to bail out on me at the minute of early bird purchase) and walking around to wherever i need to be.

depending on where you're staying parking can be ok. The Sheraton (where I'm staying) is 33 bucks a night for parking. The Days Inn (where I stayed last year) was 10 bucks a night.

If you're staying downtown you really don't need a vehicle when you're there. Once I got to my hotel, my van just stayed parked there the whole weekend. It's just a matter of preference for how you get there in the first place. I've had a couple bad experiences at the border, so I'm gonna do it this way this year. Also, since I won't be driving...I can play DS on the bus with whoever wants to play while sitting at the border. Last year I had to keep inching forward every couple of minutes which made DSing rather bothersome :P
