No, I'm talking about http://www.greatwings.ca/ .. it's just called "Wings" cheap wings, beer is good and waitresses are nice ~ whu whu

Also it's close to skytrains and easy to get to other places from Vancouver. Port Moody is really to far I think for a lot of us, since I transit and a lot of other people who live near Vancouver do the same~

Count me in too, as long as it stays in the city. Also the Lamplighter in gas town used to have rockband night on Wednesday, not sure if they still do, I haven't been there in a couple months.

Well if you go back to the OP this was going to be something planned around a few of our southern neighbors that were hoping to visit our Vantastic city on the Wednesday of PAX week. Of course since then we've kinda taken it over and turned it into something else. Go figure.

So I guess this has possibly evolved into a couple of events:
    (1) Pre-pre-PAX Night: Event for the American Tourist Types on Wed 27, which apparently will somehow involve potstickers for ninjowned. Not sure what else it will involve.
    (2) Pre-pre-pre-PAX Night: Event downtown for all the Canadian PAXers who posted, that don't want to be hung over for the trip down on Thursday (Date still open).
    (3) Pre-pre-pre-pre-PAX Night: There may still be a small group up for the Port Moody thing, as long as its not on the 27th (too much travel for most). Though it would be odd doing this one as I was always under the impression that the only fun thing to do in Port Moody was driving on the road out of Port Moody. lol.

I'd personally have an interest in joining in all three. Depending on the dates they occur of course.

With a name that pretentious they better have good wings. o_O

    Okay.
For me the week before is not AS good, depending on when we go. I am working Tuesday - Friday and I work in the Operating Room so I couldn't go out any night before I'm working.

It's also my birthday and I'm planning on hanging out at Davie on the weekend (which I don't think would interest most of you), but I haven't made definitive plans so they could always change. And I've just been informed that I "may or may not" have birthday plans on Saturday that cannot be broken (the 23rd).

Absinthe definitely cleared some stuff up. ^.^

Wings sound good to me. I suppose that would fit under the "Number 2" category. Angrytofu, what day do you propose we do Great Wings? Does anyone have an objection to wings?

As for the "Number 3" category, if there is ANY interest to go to Jimz Gamers Lounge during the weekend before PAX (Friday 22nd - Sunday 24th) I will gladly organize. I'll put a date out there, just to see how it works... Friday night at ~9pm?

Hrmm...I could be up for both of those. Getting to Jimz Gaming Lounge doesn't seem that difficult by public transit, although it'll take me ~2 hrs to get there...getting home might be tough.

I'll gladly provide transit between Lougheed Skytrain and Jimz if you'd like, Trotsky.

I'm down for (1) and (2). Both will hopefully entail picking up some potstickers for myself and maybe bringing some back for the family :P

Port Moody IS pretty damn boring.

Transit is pretty straightforward, SkyTrain to Lougheed, followed by a trip on the lesser known B-Line.
So the question is what time frame people want to attend for, keeping in mind all transit bound participants will need to hit the road around midnight to avoid being stranded. (That is assuming the place is open that late, which it probably isn't.) In other words would starting an hour or two earlier be a good idea.

And yes this is only one of multiple possible events... considering it will be a small scale version of the PAX Console and PC Freeplay areas it's effectively The Canadian Chibi-PAX Pre-PAX Gaming Event.

Other possible events appear to be:
The Ninjowned Needs Potstickers Event, for the American visitors on the 27th
The Pre-Pre-PAX Wing Night at the appropriately named Wings Pub (no apparent affiliation with the Beatle's spinoff band)
The Yaletown Pub Rockband/GH Night, which I beleive occurs on Thursday the 21st this month. Waiting for confirmation.

We seem to have some interest in all of them, hopefully at least one will actually happen.... lol.

Jimz Gamers Lounge is open until 2am. Like you said, Transit is very straightforward, but will need to be taken into account for the return trip...

Parabola, Port Moody is boring but it's not like we're cruising the town. We'd just be going for the games. There is even a Milestone's across the street...

So, does Friday at 7 or 8pm sound good for some Pre-PAX gaming?

Works for me. I get off work at 3 pm, that's enough time to go home and get myself presentable before heading out.

Sounds good to me, the earlier the better as I gotta be on one of those last sky trains. I live off Commercial/Broadway Station so fortunately either last train works for me.

So for the wings night thing, I know tr0tsky said Tuesdays suck for him, would Monday the 25th be a good night, or do we want to try to get a table on the weekend? Or push it back to the week before PAX (omg thats next week... yay)?

Also as I said before I'm still up for a meet and greet on Wednesday 27th as well. I'm off the next two weeks, might as well take advantage.

Alright, may as well formalize this:

Vancouverites need a Pre-PAX gaming venue, and Jimz it is! Jimz Gamers Lounge is a new location in Port Moody, featuring the latest in gaming technology. Over 20 stations each feature an Xbox 360 console, 32" 1080p HDTV, and an E1000 gaming chair. Other stations include a Wii console, a PS3 console, and dedicated Rock Band and Guitar Hero set-ups. Jimz has a wide selection of the latest games. Hungry or thirsty? Jimz is stocked with a variety of candy and chocolate, as well as Rockstar energy drinks. Now that you made one of the events all pretty and official looking we should really figure out if:
    (a) We should actually be starting a new thread for these Vancouver based pre-pax events, seeing as the thread is now about four different events (and not just about a trip to Van), or
    (b) If we can simply get the thread name changed to something along the lines of "Pre-PAX Events in Vancouver BC" so people don't get confused by thread name.

((Subtle hint to any mods reading this)) :winky:

And I guess I'll post up a formalized version of the original event:

FIRST ANNUAL NINJOWNED NEEDS POTSTICKERS EVENT - WEDNESDAY AUGUST 27th
A Pre-Pre-PAX gathering on the eve of all the Pre-PAX festivities in Seattle.

A chance to meet and greet our southern neighbours, show them our colourful city, and teach them all the words that they should be adding a U to. Also Ninjowned will be going to Hons for potstickers.

This may simply evolove into being a second wing night, or similar event depending on how many people show an interest in actually doing touristy stuff. I’m available all day on Wednesday so it’ll start whenever. Post will be edited when we figure out exactly what we are doing.

Ugh... damn you.... that requires me doing more work.

I was hoping that a kind and wise mod might just stumble across the thread and fix the offending thread title... but as an alternative I guess I can (1) create a new thread with an acurate title and editable OP, (2) put a link to it here, (3) harrass a kind and wise mod to lock this thread so we don't have people posting in two different threads.

    Erg... that's three steps! THREE!
