Gods that article was bad. Fortunately most everyone else agreed. It had a 2 star rating. I went and threw my .5 star in.

That article being the 'feminism' one.

I really just don't understand how someone that self identifies as a feminist can actually mislabel feminist philosophy that badly. I mean, come on.

From what I understand, feminism was a lot different in the 60s and 70s. Much more bra burning and emasculation.

No, there were a lot of feminists back then who weren't retards and wanted to be treated equally, not extra special.

But there was also a not-insignificant number of idiot-women who were active androgynists. They were the feminist equivalent of the Black Panthers minus the calls to violence (usually).
    You mean misandrists.

Androgynists might make sense if he's talking about the feminists who believe there are absolutely no inherent difference in capability between the sexes.

My main issue with the article is that by the same logic, men should only vote for men, minorities should only vote for minorities, and dammit behavior and competence should never be used as metrics.

I'm sure that would be shot down by the author, but I think at this point in our social situation, we want equality. Are some people sexist/racist/retarded? Yes. But that doesn't mean you swing way the other way to combat it. You try and marginalize those people and let logical discourse win the day.

Also, trying to run on the "I'm not a white male!" angle is pretty silly when your primary opponent isn't one, either.

The logic is that you should vote for women because they're underrepresented. Which is still stupid, but you're kind of misrepresenting their argument.

Nah, I'm still going to say Indiana or June, depending on how Barack does in the former.

I got five bucks that says no.

It's already statistically impossible for her to catch up in pledged delegates, and highly unlikely she could ever catch up even with superdelegates. Not without alienating the very base she's expecting to turn up for her in November. At this point, there's really no significant chance of her winning the nomination, so the fact that she's even continuing today suggests that Indiana and North Carolina aren't going to change anything.

Also, headline in my local paper today (actually, sub-headline)

"Democratic hopeful battles back from the brink again"

Seriously? How did she battle back from the brink yesterday? One, she was already favored to win PA. Two, her win in PA did nothing to significantly reduce Obama's lead. She didn't battle back from the brink. She's still on the brink. All PA did was keep her from falling off the cliff into oblivion. It's not like she's suddenly kicking ass and taking names.

Apparently coming back is losing 11 points in 6 weeks, but not 20? I don't understand. I wish this definition applied to, say, football in 2006. "Michigan comes back and wins stirring victory over Ohio State, your final score Michigan 39, Ohio State 42."

I don't think it's that far a misrepresentation, it's an attempt to stack a deck in response to it having been stacked beforehand. And when applied to another underrepresented group as the opposition it slips from Stupid into a slap fight over who is underrepresented Worse. Yeah. Aren't the supers being heavily encouraged to declare after the primaries in June? Even if Clinton still insists on staying in, the race will be effectively over if that happens. It might technically "go" to the convention, but in the same way that the fight between Ron Paul and McCain is "going to the convention."

I would really like to see a graph of any measurable indicator of the status of women over time. Wage gap, number of college graduates, number of women in government, number of CEOs etc... Anything that isn't some wishy-washy bullshit and can actually be measured.

I strongly suspect you'd see a big bump leading up to women gaining the right to vote then a slow but steady increase with little variation in slope up to the present day. The 60s wouldn't even show up as a blip.

The optimistic part of me thinks "good for McCain."

Her win gave her reason to continue. It was the last big state, and a win there upheld her continuing narrative of "I can win the big, important states!" Had she lost there, it would have really sent the message everywhere that she was no longer viable. She may have stayed in, trying to spin it as though it were inevitable that she was beaten in a state where she was being outspend 3-to-1, etc, but the media would have jumped all over her.

Now it's in the media's best interest to keep this thing looking like a fight. Obama was the media darling early on because he was charismatic and an ACTUAL underdog. You know, no Washington connections, no history, no millions of dollars backing him. He managed to keep that blessing right up through (I think) Texas/Ohio, when he lost 3/4 contests. Suddenly he wasn't infallible, he wasn't unbeatable, and Hillary wasn't doomed. So the media turned its focus onto him, trying to dig things up on him which fed into this line of thinking.

Mercifully, the primaries from here on out aren't as spaced out as the last one was, so the media will focus more on performance in a given state rather than acquaintance-blaming (hopefully). Best case scenario (realistically) is that they split the remaining contests. Obama goes wraps it up with the lead, and the supers get behind him. More likely it will go to the convention, and from there it's anyone's guess. My fear is that Hillary starts picking up a few states, gains some momentum, and wraps up the contest with a streak of wins.

I don't see how it is at all likely that it will go to the convention. The remaining contests will be split plus or minus maybe 20 delegates. Whatever the case he will have an over 100 pledged delegate lead over Hillary, and that will be that. That's too much to bullshit out of. Most likely the supers will end it sometime in May, at latest when Obama takes about half of the total pledged delegates.

Only way for Hillary to win is in the event of a catastrophe. Unfortunately, she's been trying to make one as of late.

That something I was once really concerned about, but it seems that the tend in superdelegate endorsement is firmly towards Obama. Of course, there's always the possibility that the public face of Clinton's campaign is a ruse and her real hopes for the nomination rest in a secret blackmail campaign against each and every Democratic superdelegate. That seems like the kind of thing she'd be into.
