I spent the morning lazily sketching some fun things, despite the amount of boring assignments slowly piling up in front of me (or perhaps because of it).
I'm not sure why I've felt compelled to design book covers lately. Maybe it's because of the liberally vague subject matter, or the mixture of illustration and design, or just the idea of making "functional" art in the form of a neatly decorated little adventure to carry around.

Just out of interest Jib, where do you want to go with your art? Book covers and other assorted full finished works or something else? Your style is so unique, I'm just wondering where it could be placed in the world for maximum earning potential. BTW if I were in control of the Jules Verne esatate i'd totally hire you to do all the book covers.

This is actually something I've been struggling with lately. I have a deep appreciation for good design on products such as books and packages, and I enjoy doing that sort of stuff in a really hand-done way. But drawing is what I really love, and I feel that drawn/hand-done design is a little too specific to make an entire design career out of. On the other side of the spectrum, I think I would enjoy doing things like children's books. I think that would suit me best.
And thank you all for the encouragement. I'm a pretty hard critic on myself and it's nice to get objective positive feedback.
The drawing of the dog on the couch shows a lot more depth in your style than the wobbly fanciful stuff implies on the surface, and I completely cannot tell which is more impressive. I like both, though the wobbly art is really unique and makes even simple things like a table look interesting.

Well, if I ever get my work of the ground (in music or book form) I might be contacting you for some artwork.
I wouldn't mind seeing some dollar bills tucked under that hand that is signing, but that is merely my opinion on the matter and probably does not reflect what you were aiming for!

Oh dear, it would appear that I have one again taken too much Laudanum with my afternoon tea. I seem to be hallucinating oversized hamsters, giant snails and a peculiar herd of minature giraffe.
How can I have missed this thread until now? Everything here is pure gold!
If I had to crit those last three panels I'd say that the trees in the middle one don't seem to match up stylistically with the other two; the leaves seem a little too simplified in comparison to the detail of the other panels. I adore everything else about them though, particularly the water and sheep.
Regarding the Goverment healthcare one is it supposed to say anything about goverment healthcare? Or is it just supposed to read as goverment healthcare?
The subtlety of how you worked the flag colors/motif into is a nice touch.

I look at that site often, and as far as I know I've never been on it.

And a piece in-progress that is supposed to tell a narrative...i'm not sure what else it needs, any advice?

what the fuck, man
I need to own your hands
My only problem with this is that both the pen and the sword are uneven between the strips of fabric.
