@JN: Hahaha, don't you understand the meaning of rickroll? though if it really bothers you that much, i'll change it. this is the last place where'd i'd want to have misunderstandings and making people upset. >.<
@Houn: This is totally the place! Liger has some good tips (I would've suggested them, even). Also, though, since I see that you might have some artistic talents, you could paint the design on. there is white fabric paint, and you'd need a lot of it to really be solid on that dark of a fabric, but if you just lay the fabric flat and go to town, i'm sure you can rock it.
I was also thinking of suggesting spray paint. make/get a stencil, take everything outside, cover what you want to stay black with newpaper, and have at it. just remember to let it dry outside, otherwise you'll stink up your house.
Hmm... How do all these methods hold up through normal wear and washing? I'd definitely want to keep wearing it normally, for that cool factor. Sewing on felt would obviously be as sturdy as the stiching. How about the iron ons, fabric paint, and spray paint? Spray Paint would be easiest, I think...
it varies from brand to brand, but most fabric paints (and i think iron ons) are washer-proof. as for spray paint (and i've recently bought some for similar cosplaying needs) it'll probably be a bit more iffy. the best thing to do is buy some, do a test run on an old bath towel, and then, after it's fully dried, wash it with other, non-spray painted, old towels. that way you can see if the paint does anything to other garments it is washed with.
hmmm maybe i should test this out myself first...
ETA: just remembered, sometimes they have special bottles/nozzels that turn regular paints (like fabric paints) into airbrush. your local craft/home improvement store might have information on that.
This might be a tad off-topic, but lets pretend, for a moment, that I had a black hoodie. Now, if I were to want to, say, add some sort of designs to this black hoodie, such as can be seen in this picture:
How would you go about adding that? Sewing the white parts on like patches?
<- Clothing Alteration Newb
(Naturally, I would be wearing this at PAX, and would be a red bandana away from cosplaying... My friend would make fun of me, though. >.> )
If you want to do patches then felt would be the easiest and there is iron on transfer glue that you can use to stick it all on. Otherwise I would say fabric paint as it might look smoother and a little more professional.
@JN: Hahaha, don't you understand the meaning of rickroll? though if it really bothers you that much, i'll change it. this is the last place where'd i'd want to have misunderstandings and making people upset. >.<
It's not that...I just don't want people looking for Rick Astley guy, when there's 99% chance it won't happen. I hate confusion, and I don't want people taking away precious PAXing time either looking for me to get a picture, or looking for me to make sure they stay the fuck away
@Houn: Indeed the fabric spray paint does look awesome! I even added a link to it in the op ^^ however, it doesn't look like they make white... @dya: Awesome! can't wait to see your threads! @JN: alrighties, fixed the op for you ^^ well, i can't wait to see you one way or the other (and plus, mohawks rock!)

Eh? The page I linked has white listed in the top row...
I just posted a pic of my "costume" in the picture thread. You can't see it well in that pic, but I have a Privateer Press pirate bandana wrapped around my neck. My shirt will be Black come PAXtime, too.
You post reminds me, have you ever seen the anime Chūka Ichiban (AKA Cooking Master Boy)? It's 52 episodes of shonen combat cooking. Really an original concept and execution I thought. Somebody has put them all on youtube (even dubbed in Catonese for that extra authenticity, given most of the series takes place in southeastern China). You should look them up.
I have seen it all. It was amazingly terribly great in all aspects. So over the top. I love it when the taster freaks out and then is transported to the land of the forefathers and the luck dragons.
I am a huge culinary fan hence Food Network HD is on at my place 24/7.
Name: Qs23
Costume: Waldo (or Wally for the brits)
Events: At least one of the days, maybe more (depending on the smell of the shirt after the first day - I sweat alot)
Status:
Hat: Fiance is knitting it as we speak (in exchange for me creating a web-site for our wedding.)
Shoes: Brown Docs are in the shoe right right now
Pants: Still need to finally break down and buy a pair of blue jeans
Glasses: Already wearing them
Shirt: This is where is problem lies, anybody got any clue where to find a long sleeve red / white stripped shirt for cheap? (I'm a M/L, leaning toward the L)
Notes: what are people's thoughts on other parts of the costume. Will looking like:
Be good enough? Or should I try and accessorize and go for something like:
Very good point. Plus, looking back at the rest of the books (I've got all of them) the stuff that he loses in each book varies, so the only the constant between all of them is what he's wearing.

Now if I can only find that damn shirt.
How to make the Waldo Shirt (a Tutorial by Lyanth)
1. Obtain a white turtle neck. New, used, whatever. just as long as its white and the right shape, you're golden.
2. Go here and buy a can or two of red fabric pray paint. alternatively, buy red spray paint from your local hardware store.
3. Following this tutorial, use Freezer Paper to cover the shirt so that just the areas you want red will show, and the areas that you want to stay white are protected.
4. Take all your materials to a well ventilated area. Like a parking lot.
5. Spray paint the shirt. Make sure that you let it dry completely before doing the other side, if you are painting it while it is lying on the ground. If you have it hung up, just go at it.
6. Tada! Waldo Shirt ready to go. Just be careful about washing it if you use regular spray paint. that stuff isn't meant to go in a washing machine, or at least i don't think so.
And actually, a lot of thanks goes to Houn to finding all the base info. yeah houn!
Oh, no worries! I should probably still be tentative, as I have no clue if I'll actually win or not. =(
If I somehow win one of the hotel/3 day passes though, I think I'm going to talk to the Mrs. about if we can afford maybe going on the train ride... because that would at least cut the cost of the trip in half. So that's another option. Anyways, we'll have to see what happens on both fronts

well, your in the confirmed anyways. because my word is law and what i say goes and what i say is that you will win and you are coming to PAX.
(and i would highly reccomend the train. i've taken the train on other trips before, and it was fun then. but traveling with a third of the forums? AWESOME!)

Costume: It's not a costume, per say, but it will be that weirdo-looking Harajuku/Decora wannabe that is seen in the Mug-Shot thread.
Events: All day Saturday.
Status: Have to find that pink skirt somewhere in my closet...
Notes: Will be doing the Button Swap--Fellow Buttoneer right here.
Small Side-Note. I will have a Frog Back-Pack on. And yes, it does have a tadpole as its zipper-thingie. AND! There will be a DS bag opposite side of Disney Toki-Doki-looking bag.

The Girl Who Gave Everyone the Shortest Jenga Game Ever.
Forumer Name: Recruit (says Officer, Tube changed it)
Costume: Tycho Erasmus Brahe (From Rain Slick Precipice of Darkness)
Events: Friday or Saturday, one or the other, all day.
Status: 100% (unless you count hair)
Notes: The costume is the sweet brown vest and slacks with brown shoes, black tie and white button down shirt he wears in the game. I have every piece gathered and prepared, even have brown socks to go with it. All I need to do is work out how to get my hair right.
The one real discrepancy with my cosplay is that my clothes have pinstiping of a darkner brown. I figured it was acceptable.
Oh, I forgot to mention... I had a wierd dream last night, that I dressed up like that crazy radio announcer from the Fifth Element and ran around PAX sticking a cane microphone at people and trying to get them to respond to insane questions.
So yeah, that idea's up for grabs if anyone wants to take it.
I have something for cool gear. I'll be giving away a baby dragon to whoever assasinates me (if they dare) as my booty, but I'm bringing along his buddy as well. So look for a guy with a winged creature on his shoulder

Several people have been trying to convince heels to cosplay as Ruby Rod (That particular character). Most notably, Broken Angel has been harassing for weeks now to make him do it.

Yea that will be scary to have some dude running around shoving his phallic mic in people's faces. I say no thanks.
Ok, so. I might also cosplay as Starbuck for a day. I'm getting quite a few people suggesting it, sooo yeah.

Alright, so if a primary component of the costume is a six-shooter, what's the best option? I want to do it as best I can without being labeled a terrorist and getting jailed. I'm flying from Canada, so it will be in checked luggage passing through customs as well. Although I could potentially get a friend from the US to bring it if that matters.

what?
I second the Milla look-alike. And she better be hot with orange hair. Man I want to go watch the movie right now.
