i will actually be heading over to the convention center tomorrow to talk with the security, so i should have some official answers to all of this very soon.

I quoted this in the original cosplay thread, but this is the pertinent WA law.

The short of it is, you can carry anything you want; however, if it 'appears capable of inflicting bodily harm' and is carried 'in a manner, under circumstances, and at a time and place that either manifests an intent to intimidate another or that warrants alarm for the safety of other persons' then you are breaking the law.

Essentially, anything goes until somebody complains, which is complete subjective bullshit, but it's intended to be a catch-all.

If I saw a gun at PAX, I don't think it would even cross my mind that it was real, so that second clause is pretty unlikely. Even if you WANTED to intimidate, you'd have to try pretty frakking hard to prove it's not a costume piece and you're not just an enthusiastic cosplayer for some character I don't know.

Several people have been trying to convince heels to cosplay as Ruby Rod (That particular character). Most notably, Broken Angel has been harassing for weeks now to make him do it.

WEIRD! Maybe I read it late at night or something, so I didn't remember consciously but I had a dream about it?

Either that, or it's divine intervention.

Heels: *GOD* wants you to play this character. He obviously sent Gabriel down with the message in the form of a dream. You have to do it now. You don't want the big man to be disappointed with you, do you? =)

You are forgetting that not everyone is in the convention center for PAX. Some random person passing by might think it is real depending on how you are holding it and call the cops. Plus the law is utter shit and could get busted for anything as long as the officer that cuffs you can come up with a good enough story.

What everyone has said has some weight. I do trust what information you've found, ET, as laws tend to be a good thing to follow (duh).

HOWEVER. I am going in tomorrow to talk with the staff of the WSCTC to get information on their policy on weapons, fake or no. This is mostly just for my own peace of mind, but it is also to clear the air about what can and can not be brought.

Until then, I still stand by my main policy: If you aren't sure it's safe, LEAVE IT AT HOME.

It may help that I won't be wielding it. I can't empty-holster it, since the holster is the front of my pants. :) There's no means to indicate the gun without there, well, being a gun.

Looking forward to the results of your visit Lyanth.

You should just bring a cardboard sign that says "Will Blend for Food" like the shirt that was for sale on Rob and Elliot's store
    Maybe you'll get treats!

    PROGRESS REPORT:

So, here's the source material. I know, it's a great example to work from, eh?
    black_reaper_example.gif

Last night, I drew it out in Freehand; it's not perfect, since in the drawing, the sleeve "bellbottoms" at the end, and a real hoodie does not:
    reaper_hoodie_arm.gif

I then printed it out in sections, taped them back together, and traced it onto a piece of freezer paper. This morning, I grabbed an Exacto knife, cut it out, and ironed it onto the sleeve. Then, using [url=
http://www.duncancrafts.com/productDetails.aspx?id=7838a799-6747-4132-9fa6-c07d6813933a]this paint[/url], I went to town. Two Coats:
    justin_hoodie_painting.jpg

Much drying later, one arm is done!
    justinhoodie.jpg
(I don't know why my wife put a border on the image.)

What you can't see is that the edges are actually really rough; I had to touch it up in places where it bled under the stencil, and the edges are very rough and trying to peel in places. I've done what I can with more paint and ironing it down, but I suspect it'll only last a few trips through the wash before it starts peeling off.

But, it'll be go for PAX. Need to retrace the stencil for the other sleeve, and design the back and collar next.

If you never realized but for a blanket statement to actually apply, this one does for Americans as they should never cosplay. I mean sure there are always exceptions but they are few and far between.

Second Arm is painted. This time, after painting, I traced the stencil with an X-acto before lifting it, and the edges are much cleaner.

    Now, to design the collar...

    So, Lyanth, sorry about this.

Apparently, I'm going to have a second costume, and Zephryl (the SO) is also doing one.

He is not going to be Luigi. He is going to be Pit instead.

And add Roxas to my list of costumes too please. :D

I think the plan is Pit and Mario one day (Friday?) which is the SSBB duo, so it works. and then Saturday I will change to Roxas and he will stay with Pit (unless he gets the Sora costume he wants also). then sunday who knows.

    I'll update as things change.

That's awesome Houn! =) That paint your using for the fabric is a neat idea, I didn't even realize you could do that and not have it come out in the wash. You have opened my eyes to a world of new potential when making makeshift costumes. =)

OKAY! sorry about being MIA the past two days. The Dark Knight ate me :3

SO. Here's what I found out from the WSCTC guys: I'm right! HA!

Well, actually, really, to be more precise, they said I was headed in the very right direction. Indeed, the WSCTC is policed by SPD during PAX, however they are there more for crowd control reasons then to look for weapons. This does not mean you can bring one, though! The manegment of PAX at the WSCTC said they really enjoyed having us last year, as we are a VERY intelligent group of people. So just as long as you keep you intelligence about you, don't bring an actual weapon, and don't forget that PAX is all about fun and safe comradery, you should be good.

    if that helps at all.

now, if you'll all excuse me, I have a wig to attented to. xD

(and BTW, for those that don't know, I was not the samus chick last year. I was the L. >.>)

Currently I am working on a Lara Croft outfit. I have several pieces but it's hard to decide which "version" of her to go as. Green shirt and brown shorts like the early Lara Croft, or the Angelina Jolie all black look. I'm planning to wear it on Saturday for the majority of the day. I've got most of the accessories but the tactical holsters are proving elusive. I'm going out today to try and find some. Wish me luck!

I'm planning on going as Carl, the Deep Crow Exterminator but in order to make the patches for his shirt and hat I need to know what his company is called. It's clearly a parody of "Orkin" but I can't quite make out the first few letters. Is it "Brogan"? Maybe I can take a quick poll.... what do you guys think his company's name is? Here are all the pictures of him I can find:

    So, another change (sorry Lyanth!).

Apparently, the SO (Zephryl will be his forum name when he signs up) nixed Luigi. So he's going as Pit from kid Icarus instead. Which works in the Mario/Pit SSBB combo. I approve.\

For day two and maybe Sunday, I will be going as Roxas. :D More info when the costume arrives.
